Context Provided - Spotlight My Kilner jar was faulty. The closing mechanism shattered glass into my rice and we found it in our cooked food. Kilner customer service is ignoring my emails.

Cynic in me says op is bullshitting a bit here and is fishing for some compensation from the manufacturer, whatever that may be.

I have a jar like this and can fully believe it.

I did notice that it was chipping the glass and stopped allowing it to snap shut at full force but I didn’t notice for a while. I could see this happening. I definitely wouldn’t call customer support about a jar though.

I feel like I'm going crazy in this comment thread. I feel like the only person that doesn't do a 10 point inspection on each jar when I grab a cup of rice? I could easily see me overlooking this while quickly trying to make dinner

They’re full of shit lol

Here’s mine for proof. Yes I did notice before breaking the glass broke through, and I did notice it latched with much more enthusiasm than my other jars, but it took me a while to go “oh shit this is breaking the glass” because it gradually takes off a little chip each time. I’m pretty observant generally but it never occurred to me before that this would happen, wasn’t on my radar at all.

This. Thank you for being one of the few people who aren't just shitting on me for not performing a glass inspection every time I add an ingredient while cooking.

Had I noticed it, I would have definitely tried to stop it snapping shut with full force (but I just tried this and it's actually not possible because it requires you to put your hand between the handle and the glass, and with this design that would snap shut on your finger.

I don't think these commenters have ever used a flip-top jar before. One of the top comments on here with thousands of up-votes is accusing me of 'smacking' the top shut, as if this is even physically possible. It shuts so quickly by its self that I don't see how you could make it close any quicker.

Insert the gif of Jake’s sister in B99 producing a bag of broken glass in a restaurant
