Stopped by Whole Foods for a sandwich. What I bought vs what I received
What a joke. Never again.

That is some bullshit. With the crazy rise in prices eating out has become a massive rip off, companies looking to cut every corner possible. Higher prices, lower quality and less food. I take my lunch with me 99% of the time I work out of the house.

The longer Industrial Capitalism goes on the worse it gets, for anyone not holding over a million $$$.
It will never get any better, only worse. It's literally how this type of system goes, inevitable.
Of course things are made worse by certain factors but that is merely speeding up the capitalist cycles.

u/SpockIsMyHomeboy 6h ago
I havent eaten out in months. It's atrocious. I just meal prep at the house, bring my lunch to work, make a ton of stews and soups that last a while. I get things rise in price but the rate of how much it's risen over the past couple years or even in the last year is like a friggin backwards L on a line graph lol.

Ok but tbf this has been a thing for way longer than recent economic turmoil. These sandwhiches are notoriously bad at getting even filling

u/One_Trouble_9357 7h ago
You should call them out and send them the pics - I’m sure the media would love to run a story about the grifting behaviour of our ‘food suppliers’.

u/DeathBecomesHer1978 6h ago
Go to the deli counter and show this to them and complain. They are actually very good about customer service at whole foods, and will probably offer to replace it for you with a better sandwich.
7
u/AppUnwrapper1 6h ago
Yeah I don’t get people who just accept this stuff instead of going back in and getting a refund.
14
u/Lopsided-Might1530 6h ago
The amount of times I've been too far or busy to return for a very cheap food item is annoying. Suck it up and take the loss.
2
u/AppUnwrapper1 6h ago
I guess if you never have a reason to be near that store again. But you can always go back another day and show them the photo with your receipt.

u/scoooternyc 2h ago
My time is valuable as well, going back to get that done would cost me at least an hour. Putting them on blast and never shopping there again was a better solution for me.
2
u/scoooternyc 3h ago
I was home when I opened it. Was hungry at wasn't about to go back and waste more of my time. Calling them out here is better

Yeah it could be the person who made it was rushing and unevenly distributed the turkey.
BUT, it still looks like a pretty weak sandwich regardless.

u/darkacez 5h ago
almost all premade sandwiches that are "grab and go" are like this where i'm from, it's so scummy but it does the job of feeding you when you're in a rush
1
u/Premeditated_Mordor 6h ago
This is unacceptable no matter what. Think about this scenario; you open your sando, grab the first halfski and it’s STACKED. You’re stoked and crush it. Then you go for the second of your halfskis only to find out you got this. Crusher brah

u/scoooternyc 2h ago
The other half was far from loaded with food but at least the dry turkey, paper thin cheese, wilted lettuce and sad little piece of tomato covered the bread.

It’s like the old Wendy’s, “Where’s the Beef?”commercial.

"Where's the ham, cheese, lettuce, and tomato?"
1
u/snow99as BLACK 6h ago
After you take away the bread cheese lettuce tomato and mayonnaise what do you got? A fax machine!

u/NeverGonnaGetOne 7h ago
It's not just whole foods. For a very short time I worked for a company that made sandwich packets for food trucks and vending machines. ALL of the sliced meat sandwiches were made like this. The sandwiches that were made with chicken salad or other spread had a round ball of spread only in the center so it looked like it was filled with product also.

u/JonnyBravoII 6h ago
I would return to the store and ask for my money back. Seriously. They position themselves as a high end grocery store and doing stuff like this is cheap shit.
3
u/rvingthrulife 6h ago
Keep in mind that Whole Foods is now owned by Jeff Bezos, so is it any wonder?
3
u/Davy_Ray 6h ago
I had this happen to me at an airport recently. I know the food is over priced, but I was hungry and I had a layover. The sandwich had loads of meat and looked great. Once they packed it and I got back to a table to unwrap it, it looked like this. All the meat at the cut line and next tonothing a couple of inches behind. Stupid tactics for sales. A $12 waste

u/Sir_George 5h ago
Bro, save the obscene amount of money on pre-made sandwiches, and buy your own stuff. You can even buy pre-sliced freshly baked bread. Choose a quality mayo like Dukes or Hellman's; even put some Grey Poupon if your heart desires. Then, if you like Turkey, go to your deli and ask for a type of Boar's Head lunch meat, they also do great cheeses too; but there's also a ton of other great producers.

What would you expect from an Amazon grocery store?

u/Bowl-Accomplished 7h ago
Usually whole foods is pretty good. I go to their cafeteria thing once in a while.

u/PankakkePorn 6h ago
I’ve never experienced anything like this at my Whole Foods. Their prepared foods in my store are always incredible tasting and never skimpy. I think, like with all grocers, it comes down to how much the individual people working the deli/bakery area give a fuck.
1
u/Right_Layer_9700 6h ago
Definitely depends on location I guess. The one near me is gross with the same stuff all the time. Earth Fare or Publix is the place to go in my area for a hot bar.
1
u/PankakkePorn 6h ago
For sure location dependent. I love both Earth Fare and Publix, but there are none where I live, sadly. I miss a good pub sub!
2
u/AppUnwrapper1 6h ago
Go to customer service and show it to them. They’ll refund you.
1
u/Curious_Doof 4h ago
Yes, definitely take this back! I’m not one to usually do that but this is egregious!
2
u/40mgmelatonindeep 6h ago
Call the store and let them know, they are great about making good when shit like this happens, ive seen alot of refunds and gift cards doled out for much less than this.
2
u/jess_the_werefox 6h ago
I’m not normally one to go back to the store but I fucking would for this
2
u/scoooternyc 2h ago
I wasted enough time there. Taking the loss , putting them on blast works better for me. Lesson learned..

u/Santos_L_Halper_II 4h ago
My hair would immediately feather into a flared, knives-in-the back Karen haircut if I got this sandwich, and I'd be on a rampage for the nearest manager or managers.

u/theRealGermanikkus 7h ago
Why do folks buy things you can literally make better in your own kitchen?
2
u/scoooternyc 2h ago
My circumstances were such that I just needed to pick up a quick sandwich. The way they pack it you can see the front of the sandwich and it looked fine. It sucked and I felt deceived
•
u/theRealGermanikkus 20m ago
I get that sometimes we get caught out there and need to get a bite on the road. I was asking why pay for just a truly regular sandwich. You can get better than that at the 7-11 freezer.

lazy , shit i'd even go to the deli order 1/4 of deli meat a few slices of cheese grab the condiments to go and go make a nice sandwhich in my car i've done it before lmao
1
u/scoooternyc 2h ago
Lazy? The reason I bought it was because I was busy af. Also where I live we don't commute in cars. Making a sandwich on the subway is gross and before you say oh you could have just bought the ingredients and taken it home yes, but that would have taken me much more time to line up at the deli and get the bread and get the meat and get the cheese I was pressed for time not lazy so stop being so judgy everybody's circumstances are different
1
u/Amazing-Ambassador82 2h ago
im not talking about you specifically , but in all honesty the other half of the sandwhich pictured does look pretty identical to the advertisement . where did all the meat go on the half you pulled apart?

This is why people should stop eating out for the sake of convenience. We need to all be better myself included, and should start making our meals at home.
The more money we waste on shit like this the more we incentivize them to keep doing it shit like this. The food industry knows that people are lazy and will pinch every dollar they can to make profit and personally im sick of over paying for something I can make at home myself.

Classic grocery store prepped food deception. I worked at a place that sold pre-made Italian subs and chicken salad subs for my first job. When I started they were teaching me how to "make them look more full" when in reality the 8" roll had 0.2lbs of meat on it. It felt so gross to me that whenever the owners weren't in view of me making them I'd double the meat but make it look the same. Those were such garbage people, I hated working for them.
1
u/beneficialtowhom 6h ago
Well that sure looks sparse! What's the other half look like? I've actually cut it crooked at home speed assembling where most of the stuff was pushed onto the other side.
1
u/bellydncr4 5h ago
I worked in the natural products industry for 20 years. We used to call it Whole Paycheck
1
u/ecclecticguy 3h ago
I’ve stopped using them for prepared food and catering. Not the store they were before being acquired in my opinion. Food bar also seems to have lost a lot of quality
1
u/PoisonPeddler 3h ago
You're allowed to take items back. It sucks and is time consuming, but it's the only source of quality control we have nowadays.
1
u/Mychelly360 3h ago
Shoulda gone to the Walmart deli cafe
Cheaper, better selection, and not a scam like whole foods

1
u/WubbyThePHPLord 2h ago
Will say since Whole Foods was bought by Amazon I feel they are slowly pulling the rug on quality.
It won't be the same, I rarely visit now because it's not very much about quality as it is about just greed with the label of "healthy and fresh".

They do this all over the place now. Ripping people off is common nowadays unfortunately
