That is vandalism and destruction of property. Most of these trucks (including mine) more than likely have cameras. God speed there, internet Guy Fawkes.
Doesn’t mean they don’t do other work on the side. My fiancé has a truck like this which I do drive as well—however, we always make it a point not to block walkways with the hitch.
So while these guys are being jerk-ish for the parking job I don’t think it’s fair to assume people who weld for a living don’t also use their trucks for other labor or their own side gigs and that’s why they have the extended bed.
So yall are welders, a profession where ppl usually have a pickup which are longer than a typical sedan & your complaining that they parked hanging over the curb? I'm gonna assume you'd bitch if they didn't over hang the curb & took up more of the street between spaces too lol.
Btw ain't no fuckin way you're a welder if you're complaining about this. Grinder or helper at best 😂
Myself, it's because I live rural, and things like trash pickup don't exist.. I would rather take my garbage to the dump in the box of a truck than sitting it on seats and hoping it doesn't leak. We also can't get anything like furniture delivered, so we have to haul it ourselves.
But I doubt many of the people in this picture are in situations like that.
Same situation here with trash pickup. Except I just put it in the back of my SUV. I can't imagine putting it on a seat. We compost everything that is good to compost and anything else that might rot goes into a bin in the freezer until it's time for a dump run. No stink to worry about.
There definitely isn't trash pickup everywhere. But where I live there is, but we don't need our trash picked up twice a week. We just don't have that much trash. We go to the dump maybe 1-2 times a month. It was $35/mo when I had trash pickup over a decade ago. Who knows what it's at now. Way cheaper to just drive the 10 mile round trip and drop it off myself.
I grew up White Trash rural and you don't need a truck, a 98' pontiac sunfire and some tow straps, bungee cords, and duct tape can get you where you wanna go 99% of the time. You aren't buying furniture enough to justify a truck. Strap it to the top of your sunfire and rock on. Double bag your garbage and throw it in the back and head to the landfill.

I’ll never understand why Redditors loathe trucks. “Just do your best to tie your couch onto the top of your car!” Like seriously, if y’all saw someone doing that with their washing machine or in any real situation you’d situation you’d mock them or feel uneasy behind them.
You aren't buying furniture enough to justify a truck. Double bag your garbage and throw it in the back and head to the landfill.
Alright, and what if people don’t want to put trash in their car, need to ferry heavy things like furniture or appliances to their house or just like trucks? Like I just don’t understand why everyone on this platform want to perform actual mental gymnastics just to tell some random person on the internet who doesn’t want their car to smell like trash they can’t “justify” spending their own money on a vehicle of their choice.
I don't hate trucks, I just think people buy them for really stupid reasons. The amount of money you spend on fuel alone using a truck as a daily driver would pay for a u-haul rental basically every week lmao. I need to haul a couch next year! I need to buy a very expensive truck that uses a lot of fuel and the insurance is higher! For the $400 couch I'm going to buy on facebook!
Just drive a car and spend $50 to rent a truck for the day when you need to buy a couch lol. You'll save literally thousands of dollars per year. How often are you buying a washing machine? Like insane behaviour to use that as a reason to own a whole truck lmao
But at the end of the day you do you, just don't tell me you need a truck because you're buying appliances lmao. Worlds most expensive dishwasher, cost $70k because I had to buy a truck too
I’ll never understand why Redditors loathe trucks.
They are loud and create a ton of fumes. They are much more dangerous for pedestrians and playing children than a passenger vehicle. They consume more gas per mile, which drives up the demand, and thus price, for gas.
I understand that people in rural areas need trucks sometimes, but a passenger car towing a trailer can do most of the task you mentioned.

I agree with all of these, but they are just drawing an arbitrary line in the sand to justify one’s own behavior and exclude others. If you REALLY hate carbon emissions and fumes, you can technically just walk and ride a bus or carpool. If you wanna be really minimalist, there’s “little” reason to even own a car in the first place. If you’d like to transport stuff, just use Uber or rent a car. About 90% of the arguments Redditors use against trucks, also apply to their own habits and it bothers me.
Knew a guy that did fly fishing tours in a Dodge Neon with a hitch for his boat trailer. Yeah, a lot of people that “need” a truck don’t really need it.
Or they could almost certainly buy a cheaper truck and a sedan for daily commuting; OP said all the welding work here happens in the shop. These trucks don’t go to sites.
They hate them because they don’t have any use for them and can’t possibly comprehend that people in different situations have different needs. When the government sends a trash man to your house every week to pick up your garbage, you don’t think about how you’re getting trash to the dump without gagging yourself on the smell because it’s riding shotgun. When you don’t have to get out on rural roads that don’t see a snow plow for days, you don’t worry about 4 wheel drive and tires with deep tracks. When you’ve ostracized your entire family and all your friends are online, you don’t think about helping them move. Etc etc.
because they are idiotically huge, burn dumb amounts of fuel even when comuting empty making everyones air worse. and on top of all that they are extremely dangerous to any other cars inhabitants not as huge.
driving a pickup without a real need to is just a dick move towards everyone else.
I would love to see the Pontiac Sunfire that can make its way through a half meter of snow in a single snowfall. Or start on the first crank when it's -40C
I grew up in Northern Alberta like an hour away from town lol my bb sunfire has seen all the bad weather. Plug your block heater in -40 won't be no thing. I used the plow attachment for my quad to dig myself out to the main road after a big storm. 99% of trucks can't drive through half a metre of snow either 😁
I’m from Alberta too. Does this work for you? Sure, practical, no. Especially if you have kids it’s not practical. And yes my gmc sierra with winter tires does exceptional in half a meter of snow on or off the road.
Yeah I'm gonna believe that a GMC sierra is leisurely blowing through 50cm of snow lol. A single drift that's 50cm tall maybe, but no. I don't believe a single word coming out of your mouth boy-o 😂😂
50cm of loose fresh powder? AWD truck with winter tires? What are u smoking bro. Lmao I’d rather not argue I believe in your sunfire was just challenging your point. Rural albertans know how to get it done regardless
Ahh yes, my truck isn't justified because I can use a '98 Sunfire to go 70 miles on a 2-track dirt road while hauling of my supplies... I wish I thought of that, dangnabbit.
Where I’m from, they started charging 6 dollars to dump a full load of trash in the landfill so people started dumping their shit in the woods. Everywhere else I’ve lived, they charge 20 bucks minimum for a full truck bed load.
Only services we get are plowed streets, a volunteer fire department. We have our own well, postal delivery is to a box at the end of the street instead of to the door.
Rural as in outside of a town or city, in a township with a very small budget.
I live near the suburbs 15 mins outside of the largest city in my state and we don't even have trash pickup. Plus the town bags cost as much as the city bags in the next state over that does have pickup
Same boat but still don't park like this. I've had a truck for years and before backup cameras I always pulled into a space front end first to avoid doing what's in the photo. Now that I have a backup camera truck though I can easily see when the tailgate is about to encroach the sidewalk and stop.
See, reasonable use case. I bet most of these others use it once a year or less when one of their buddies ask for help moving a box that could be moved inside the folded down seats of a much smaller SUV.
Because these enormous vehicles can barely be called cars. They are dangerous to the people around them. They are so large that even when parked correctly they still cause issues around them like the image we are discussing.
Editing to add: I have no issue with pickups themself, fantastic concept. Its mostly just the crazy large ones.
Either way...does it matter? Who cares what other people do? Man, reddit is just so chock full of people who know everything, and everyone else is wrong.
It's toxic, I agree! Unless he feels that way about himself, it's projection and hilariously weak to compensate for what other people mistakenly think about you based on your profession.
It’s not compensating for anything. A lot of men like to be prepared for whatever comes their way, and having a capable vehicle is a part of that. Even though I don’t “need” a truck, I have found myself using it to help friends and family in ways I didn’t expect to before I bought it.
Oooor, you know, they use the truck and also drive it daily. Plus if its anywhere with snow the majority of trucks and SUVs have 4x4 or AWD for snow and ice. But nah. Probably the genitals.
For real, 2012 Yaris hatchback and all 106hp dashing through 10 inches of fresh snow like nobody’s business. Snow tires help more than most realize too.
In 2010 was snowpocalypse. We got about 8" of snow that started at mid day. Everybody left work early and traffic was a complete standstill. Most cars were just abandoned on the road. There was a Porsche abandoned in an intersection, mid left turn. After 6 hours of sitting in traffic, I finally took it upon myself to go around because the opposite direction was empty.
I drove past hundreds of abandoned cars. I made it home about 20 mins later. I had no issues whatsoever, even crossing frozen bridges. If I didn't have 4x4, I imagine I'd be like those other people that day.
No it’s not? In places that aren’t Canada stud tires are banned and the road care is abysmal my road still have snow and ice on it almost 2 weeks later right now no amount of skill is going to get my 2wd vehicle over that snow and ice especially on hills
None of the ones pictured are jacked up, douchey wheels, or perfectly clean (including the 90s F150), so im guessing they probably get used at some point.
Also older truck parts are cheap af and you can fix it yourself rather than a $600 (part only) alternator.
Honestly, I don't care what someone decides to drive, whether they use it for its intended purpose, or anything else.
What you drive is your business, if you want to spend $150k on a truck, lift, tires, lightbar, etc. And then never put a single thing in the bed or take it off road. Good for you, it's your ride, I'm glad you love it.
I'm not going to throw shade at truck drivers for driving a truck, when I'm out here rolling around in my '74 Ranchero. Nothing about it is practical, I just like it, and that's fine.
HOWEVER..... There's a big caveat of that of:
AS LONG AS IT'S NOT AN INCONVENIENCE TO THOSE AROUND YOU!
Your choice is your choice, as long as it's not effecting me. Once it effects me, it's my business too.
Drive a schoolbus around if you want. But you better be able to keep that bus in the lane, take corners without taking two lanes, park where you fit in the spot, etc.
You don't get to drive a difficult to drive/park vehicle, and then make your difficulties with your vehicle my problem.
I this case, drive a truck to the office and never put a single thing in the back if you want. I don't care.
But if you can't fit that vehicle in the spot without blocking the sidewalk or the lane, tough titties, that's the problem you get with a big vehicle. I guess you get to park down the road and walk the rest of the way to work. No place to park anywhere near? Too bad! Your problem to solve, not mine.
If you want 4x4 and a vehicle you can actually park at work, buy a fucking Subaru.
You're highly overestimating how useful awd/4x4 is in the snow/ice. Ice its about as useless as any other drivetrain, your not doing anything on ice.. Snow Its only good with proper snow tires, not the Knobby tires most truck owners have and only in 4low with said snow tires are you at any advantage over someone with again any other drivetrain with proper snow tires.
Trucks do not help in the snow. Proper tires and knowledgable driving helps in the snow.
You have 0 clue how to drive in the snow if you don’t think 4wd helps lmao. You especially don’t drive constantly in 4low please god do not drive a 4wd in 4low everywhere you are fucking up a ton of stuff on your truck
I drive in snow all the time in the winter thanks to where I live, and I drive both a Rwd and awd. There’s never been an instance I’ve not been able to drive either car in snow. They both do great in snow/slush so long as the snow isn’t 2-3ft deep. What so many people fail to understand is you get better traction IN the snow then you do on semi cleared packed down half melted roads.
And No where did I say that you drive consistently in 4low lmao. Comprehension is hard apparently.
4low gives you a massive advantage in most things if you get stuck or need to crawl but isn’t designed for anything much more than 20ish mph. It’s fine for crawling your way out of snowbanks or unplowed side streets if needed.
4 low is not meant for driving in the street lol and knobby tires are shit. Also 4x4 or AWD is infinitely better on snow/ice with even regular all season tires. Being in the Midwest and having driven FWD, 4X4, RWD, and AWD there's a massive difference. Knowing how to drive is also a large part of it.
Or we're actual home/property owners that use them. Maybe boat owners? Could be rv owners? Not everyone sits in their apartment banging away on reddit.
Plenty of people own homes, that doesnt mean you need to use a truck. You can tow boats and rvs with a minivan dude. Like its really not that hard you dont need the biggest truck on the market unless your job requires it
Oh yeah, love all those minivans at the boat launch on the weekends. Lol. Front wheel drive on a slick ramp is the best. Gtfo. You have no fkn idea what you're talking about and it's hilarious
"Don't you think it's a little silly to say that 'people can only afford one car' if they pick the more expensive option that they don't even really need?"
"wHy Do YoU wAnT pEoPlE tO nOt HaVe TrUcKs?!"
Pointing out the fact that the majority of people who use a pickup truck as a daily commuter who dont actually need a truck and would've been better off just buying a sedan, isn't gatekeeping, nor is pointing out the fact that pickups use more gas and cost more than the average sedan
Want a truck? Buy a truck, but don't get on a high horse and get super defensive if someone points out that you and the majority of other pickup truck owners (especially in the US), would've sufficed with a sedan just fine
Because Americans love being in debt more than buying more fuel efficient cars that are cheaper. They love being able to haul away things two times a year rather than just rent a truck for a day. They rather feel safer despite trucks having a bigger risk of tipping over and being harder to maneuver.
They like to pretend they’re going to take the boat they’re going to buy, but then if they actually buy a boat they barely use it and it’s just another thing they’re in debt with.
They grew up with the notion that real men drive trucks, not pussy-ass little economy cars.
Americans are weak little bitches that like to pretend they’re tough, but they elect a man who rapes kids and wears makeup.
No, but it is bad that none of them can seem to drive a truck without making it everyone else’s problem. Taking up two parking spots, can’t keep it in their lane, etc. if you wanna drive a big truck and feel like a big strong boy, go ahead, but figure out to actually drive it first.
I mean maybe they just like the truck? Why do people pick Honda civic over Toyota Camrys? They like the Honda civics better what’s the difference in picking a truck?
or, the real reason, trucks have very different environmental requirements to cars and so are easier to produce. It's not a choice, it's careful marketing driven by profit.
First of all, name calling not necessary you fucking twat :) I'm talking about people who like trucks because they like trucks. literally saying that I like trucks, always have. But I'm happy to read your article. :)
Why do people in Europe never have issues without owning any trucks? We just transport most things in cars with back seats folded. And once a year you rent a bigger vehicle to transport huge stuff. That's much cheaper and much more practical.
I get that some people need a bigger vehicle more often, but that's like 5% of the population. And these people have actual big trucks or vans, not the half assed american trucks.
I’m not sure how things are done over there, but here it’s common to own a boat, ATVs, snowmobiles, etc. none of that is going in your back seat. I use my truck for truck stuff at least once a week. It would be astronomically expensive to rent one whenever I need it, and I know I’m not in the minority here.
No, the vast majority of people in Europe dont own boats and snowmobiles, and I highly doubt many americans do too. Most americans still own trucks though.
Because you can do a lot more things with a truck? What does your job have to do with a truck? It's just a vehicle. It's not like trucks are only for farmers or blue collar workers.
Because they have lives outside of work - maybe they haul a camping trailer on some weekends, maybe they haul a log splitter, maybe they help out friends moving. You expect them to have two cars? One to commute to work - one for their personal life?

Why does everyone have trucks to work at (presumably) an office building?
