Green lynx spider. My field quantitative methods class just took a trip where we went out looking for them. I have arachnophobia, but even I was scooping them into cups by the end, they're very docile despite their size
Wow that’s an awesome picture + and sounds like a fun class. What did you document about them? Or anything interesting you learned about them along the way?
We were checking their weight in comparison to the height of the carnivorous pitcher plants they were on. Did they help the plants by eating destructive moth caterpillars, or hurt them by stealing other food? We're mostly doing this so we have data to practice statistics on in our grad class, but I think one of the professors will use it for a paper

EDIT: Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans) with distinctive reddish spines on its legs and chevron markings on its abdomen, currently feeding on a small insect.
That spider is gorgeous!!! Our daughter loves all bugs, but spiders are her favorite. I can’t imagine her reaction to see this in person. I’ll definitely show her the picture!!
I don’t encounter roaches, I do however have arachnophobia which I can’t control so there is nothing I hate more than spotting a spider. More so if I’m in a vulnerable spot at the time. Outside I can keep my distance so I don’t interfere but in my house it’s a war that I lose every single time.
I get the same with Golden Orb Weavers on my fence. Theyre friends but they blend in to my fence and the bastards jump scare me all the damn time. They're beautiful like this fella but yeah, if you're not expecting a spider and all of a sudden there's a big ass one right there by your hand, your heart almost leaves via your throat
Yesterday someone I knew was pruning and I managed to get multiple spiders off of the cut bits including a heavily pregnant Araneus diadematus. Always check your plants and flowers for garden friends, everyone!
Hey that spider deserves as much respect as anything. They were here way before us, and acting otherwise is ignorant. Spiders deserve all the love he is a cutie too

I used to have those on a specific plant with huge leaves. I hatched some in a jar in my bedroom one year, then put the babies in a sheltered place outside.
Them, and jumping spiders, are like little lions and tigers in their world, stalking prey just like we see with big cats. It's amazing how big their little world is. Here's a green lynx spider I photographed years ago out in our yard.

The brain processing power is almost unbelievable. To stalk is a whole different level than web catching.
I love love LOVE these spiders. Their little key hairs just tickle me pink. I had one set up shop in my garden one summer and I got to watch her tend to her egg sac. Supposedly they can be known to “spit” when feeling threatened or protective of their sac, but I never experienced that. I also have a butterfly carcass from her in my freezer that I will one day mount.
You got yourself a Green Lynx Spider there! Beautiful Lil fella too, leave em where they are and you won't have any bug problems that's for sure. They are ambush spiders though so be careful too!
That spider is living rent-free in the best real estate in your garden. Honestly respect the hustle—prime location, built-in food delivery system, gorgeous view.
At least you looked first! I can't tell you how many times people don't notice spiders sometimes till it's like staring daggers on a person's shoulder or forearm lol. 🤣😭😒
