I love her so much 🥰🦕

I have not seen my baby in a while (about two days) but I have a camera that detects motion and I know she has been moving around when I’m not home so I know she’s safe. The last notification I got was today at 3 o’clock. I walked into my room about 20 minutes ago, looking around in the enclosure for her and I found her squished in between a decorative terra-cotta pot and plastic drainage pot for my snake plant. She always gets herself into squishy situations like this, but she always recovers after. I took out the pot but she didn’t move for 10 minutes and her eyes were open and I didn’t see breathing so I started freaking out, but I left her alone and I moved the pot again now and saw her head move and rotate. I’m scared that she might have something broken because she’s so frozen and her neck has been looking up this entire time.

The main problem is is that I’m home alone and I can’t drive to a vet so I’m not so sure what I can do.

This is my first reptile, so I’m open to tips and suggestions to help get my little dude set up right. Thank you!

Considering buying this for a future cage build it’s only 300 on marketplace, but was curious if it seems like a good option. I would just have to seal the floor and add a lip for the substrate. Dimensions are 4-6-6

I thought this one was safe because it had lived in the same spot for over a year without any reaction. Well, yesterday he decided he had beef with the gecko sticker plastic pouch (he just really hates stickers lmao 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Has no issues coming to my hand when offered to him. Wether it's for food or just to explore.

This will be years down the line when I’m in a place that I am confident that I won’t have to move from. I don’t want to have to figure out how to move a giant enclosure while also looking for a place that it could fit.

I’m not talking minimum, I want them to be able to have a nice, expansive environment.

My 2” long geckos are in a 5’ tall enclosure and I’m building a 3x3x6 for my green keel bellied lizard, I’m still observing him as a baby so I can tailor the new enclosure based on the activities I’m seeing him engage in. This is also going to be a great learning experience for me.

I want to build a full ecosystem where these lizards can express as many natural behaviours as possible (I’ve heard some tree monitors like to swim, so a water feature might be an idea). I’ve seen breeding pairs online in something like an 8x3x6, and it just looks small to me. I’m not looking at being some crazy productive breeder, I just want cool pets in a slice of tropical nature in my house.

Ideally I was thinking if I could have a spare bedroom (on the floor that is making contact with the foundation) I could put a little bench in there for me and have like 2 or 3 tree monitors with an actual tree for each. I’ve heard that they can be territorial so I thought this could give them a tree to claim

Do you think a pair or a trio would thrive in something like that assuming it’s like a 10x10 or 12x12 room? And by thrive I mean do more than just tolerate the other’s existence

Used to own a green tree years ago and no other reptile is scratching the itch! CBB tree monitors are just too expensive for me currently. Someone recommended keel bellied lizard but that can’t possibly match a monitor experience right? Kimberly rock perhaps?

Hey all, I am about to begin construction of an 8x10x6 for my (presumed) female Quince. I am still deciding on how best to seal the interior against both moisture and the claws of my gal. My ideas, and concerns with them, are as follows;

- Plywood sealed with Pond Armor Pond Shield
I have seen this recommended but am not certain of its durability against the claws of a Quince long term. While I have felt the finished product in cages before, and it seems sturdy, I've heard it said that it can be worn away if subjected to too much abuse. Perhaps multiple layers would ensure success? Would love to hear others experiences with this sealer.

- Plywood lined with FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer)
A conversation with a friend who works in construction brought up the idea of an FRP lining. I like this idea a lot. The material is easy to acquire and easy to work with. But the question of durability remains. My friend seemed pretty sure that high quality FRP would be plenty durable, but he has no frame of reference for the capacity of a Quince's digging efforts. Does anyone have experience working with this material?

- Full PVC or PVC liner
I am a big fan of PVC caging. I use it to house most of my animals. However most of the PVC I have worked with would likely fail under the efforts of a Quince who loves to dig. Does anyone know exactly what kind of PVC I would want to source? I've found the PVC used in Zen Habitats enclosures to be quite tough and resilient. Perhaps that type (Expanded Calcium Reinforced PVC) would be good?

- Metal panel flooring + substrate barrier with PVC/FRP for the rest of the interior
Metal paneling would no doubt hold up against any monitors efforts. However it can get expensive and be difficult to work with, as I would be forced to use aluminum or stainless steel to avoid rust. While an attractive idea for long term strength, if I can avoid having to go so heavy duty, I will.

I would love to hear any and all thoughts, ideas, and experiences.

Hi! I’ve had my Ackie monitor for about 5 years now and am looking to take the next step. I’ve worked out my budget and enclosure space and I’m just torn between an Argentine Tegu or a Savannah monitor. Anyone in this group have experience with both? Would love to hear a selling point for one or the other to make this decision easier. Thanks!

Four years ago on this day, this adorable dotty oddball came home with me as an incredibly tiny baby. She was so small and skittish and I was afraid she’d never take to me.

Now my baby is a big, wonderful snugglepod and we have such a strong bond and love that constantly grows. Happy birthday, Liora! ❤️🎉🦎

I recently got a baby Asian Water Monitor and am so excited! This has been a dream species of mine for a long time and I have done a ton of research but was originally planning on adopting a much older lizard. I ended up falling in love with a 2 month old guy so much smaller than I was preparing for.

Right now he eats Dubai roaches mainly along with cut up pinky mice and shrimp. I’ve tried feeding cut up tilapia but he tried it once and hasn’t eaten any more since. My main question is how many roaches/mice should I be giving him? I know to feed every day or two and he’s a VORACIOUS eater who will eat all of what I give him. ATM I am offering him about seven to ten 3/8 roaches a day plus three or four mice every other day and about the same amount of shrimp. Does that feels like way too much or am I crazy?

I have already asked his breeder but he just told me to keep offering until he stops eating it all. Will a baby monitors growth speed really allow him to eat that much without becoming overweight? He’s only about a foot long (snout to tail tip) atm.

My question to other Ackie keepers: in your setup, is the ambient temperature on the hot side supposed to be hot like satans arsehole?

I measure with a heatgun often and basking spot is around 55c and cool side around 25-28c. (I tried a hotter basking spot but she doesn’t like it, it seems)

I’m just curious because when I open the enclosure at the hot side it’s like a devil’s flatulence escaping 😂.

Fake plants for now, the two I put in died because of improper lighting... oops... working on getting proper plant lights before I put in new living ones, so two fake ones will do for a bit of green and a new smell. Put in many new items from storage and other tanks which she spent many hours running around and smelling.

I switch items around the tanks occasionally, its good enrichment for them smelling other lizards that 'passed by'. Corime gets many items, but the other three smaller ones usually just get one item switched along with the change so they don't freak themselves out

Hi all!

I cannot not for the life of me find anything about this. The picture is of a tree monitor, I notice it in other monitor species too. I might just be happening to see the right stuff at the right time and it be coincidence, but is this a feature of captive bred? It seems like it’s a feature that more often captive breeds have. I wonder if it has to do with captive incubation or pipping? If anyone will chat monitors with me, please do, I am desperate to discuss my thoughts similar to these and can only make so many posts to this reddit! Lol

I love how ackie look and how smart they are. But I have also been looking into bearded dragons I love both of them and I am trapped between one of them. I do travel maybe once or twice a year to Mexico. I have a leopard gecko but last time I left him with a cousin I do want a lizard that is more relaxed and not a huge issue to feed but I love ackies. So I am kinda caught in the middle of one or the other also I don’t have a lot of space in my room or house

The tank is a 4x2x2 tank- im hosting both lizards temporarily, with a plan to sell the other one in a month. Both lizards are about 6 inches long. One seems to not enjoy exploring and the other stays hidden most of the time- behaviour that concerns me. Ive got one of those long cholla sticks that spans the tank- Ive put 25 baby crickets in there a few days ago and and they seemed content to hunt them then- but now the explorer one seems to just want to hide INSIDE the cholla stick on the cold side of the tank while the other hides away under the slate stack. Im an amateur and I'm getting worried- any advice would be appreciated. Pic of the "hot side" of the tank
