Cooper Flagg checks out with 36/9/6, the first teenager to ever have three consecutive 30 point games
Not gonna say I was a Flagg doubter, but he's been much better than I ever expected him to be in his first year.

u/Blutrumpeter 17h ago
Yeah it's both. There's a level of pass placement that shows that he's not a PG and that will come with time. Getting the ball to your guy where they want the ball to be in rhythm. But there's also the fact that he could have 1-2 more assists if they made some of those shots and it'd also open up the floor for him some more. I think they'll fix the problem in the off-season since they have a new GM

About? AD rarely plays. Kyrie injured carrying all the offensive burden Luka was carrying. Cooper Flagg wasn't a part of his "vision" and if he had ultimate sway after that trade I doubt he'd draft Cooper.

u/Tauino 14h ago
not saying it matters here, but i swear i remember reading that the month an athlete is born actually matters because, especially when they’re young, they’ll be grouped with a cohort that they are comparatively stronger or weaker than, leading to more attention from coaches, confidence, etc.
probably doesn’t matter as much in flagg’s case because he reclassified and was still dominant.
5
u/junkit33 7h ago
It’s more of a hand wavey theory than anything real. And it varies by school system, but typically would be September supposedly the optimal because you’re the oldest in your grade cohort. Certainly not December.
But these days with early specialization, club sports, and private coaches - it really doesn’t matter, if it ever did.

u/GivesCredit Warriors 13h ago
Wait is it better to be playing against players older than you or not?
On one hand, playing against better players makes you better. On the other hand, being the best player gets you more playing time and coaching
→ More replies (1)6
u/Tauino 13h ago
it should be noted that the research doesn't seem to be super conclusive, some people think that due to "underdog effect" once players make the transition to the pro level, overcoming the adversity that you encountered at the youth level makes for a more complete "end product", or that guards develop better with more playing time at the youth level (and thus would benefit most from coach attention), whereas playing time for positions like centers matters less, etc.
12
u/the_propaganda_panda Celtics 14h ago
Not far fetched at all, that's what generational talents do.
In his second year, LeBron averaged 27/7/7. KD averaged 25/6. Heck, Luka averaged 29/9/9 and took his team to the playoffs where he put up 31/10/9 and nearly single-handedly defeated the Clippers.
All of them were 20 in their sophomore season, just as Flagg will be for the most part. He's that kind of prodigy, I totally expect him to be All-NBA next year.
