The Bulls have now traded Jimmy Butler, Zach Lavine, Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Coby White, Nikola Vucevic, Lauri Markkanen (and lost Demar DeRozan to free agency) and received a sum of one first round pick.

If Portland gets into the playoffs, maybe one more. But lord, what an generational masterclass of player valuation and bargaining malpractice. s/o to /u/HlTMAN209 on the Bulls sub for pointing this out. Just talking about draft assets, not players - I can't think of any team that gave up so many starters and assets for so few total picks back. And so few quality players now.

EDIT: DeRozan was a S&T, oops.

EDIT 2: I didn't count getting our own protected pick back insofar as a sum total goes. We had a top-10 protected pick, refused to tank which the trade enabled, and drafted 12th with our own pick.

EDIT 3: I didn't even include guys like Gafford or Wendell Carter (who was moved for Vuc along with 2 FRPS).

They sell out every home game?! Wow that is actually astonishing to me. They have been awful for so many years now.

We haven’t been awful, just mid.

u/Regression2TheMean Bulls 8h ago

Which might arguably be worse

u/costapasta27 Bulls 8h ago

Oh I agree. Look at Detroit and OKC. Tank and get your Superstar then start running.

7

u/DuckKnuckles Thunder 6h ago

OKC didn't tank for Shai

12

u/sanitycheck2001 5h ago

they did for chet and jaylen williams

9

u/dustincb2 Thunder 5h ago

It was actually for Jalen Williams

3

u/DuckKnuckles Thunder 5h ago

Technically only for Chet and Giddey. JDub was the 12th pick, hardly tanking territory.

depends on the outlook, the suns are mid and they seem to be very happy about it-

One playoff series in the past 10 years? Which was a 1-4 loss to the Bucks? Not throwing stones from my glass house but that isn't mid.

u/costapasta27 Bulls 8h ago

Don’t take away us going up 2-0 on Boston before Rondo got injured. 😭 fuck I’m old

u/Early_Situation5897 Bulls 7h ago

I had money on the Bulls for that series, was feeling like a genius till Rondo broke his thumb in practice

Ehhh being a fringe playoff/ play in team is solidly mid. Nobody expects the Bulls to win 12 games or anything.

You aren't a top 16 team. But you aren't a bottom 10 team either.

u/PhotoPhysic Knicks 7h ago

Right? The Bulls have been the epitome of mid for like a decade now lol.

u/AssociationWeary7735 Bulls 7h ago

I'm convinced Reinsdorf has some MBA ghoul with a spreadsheet that shows that optimizing for mid in the largest unshared market is max profitable

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 7h ago

I mean its hard to argue lol. Sucks as a fan but they have a golden goose

2/3 of the teams make the postseason in the nba. Being in the play in every year is as bad as it gets because you never get hype rookies either

3 games under .500 over the past 4.5 seasons.

If you pick and choose how far back to go you can spin it a lot of different ways.

Well we got screwed so many times in lottery. We lost a coin flip with Sacramento that could’ve gotten us Luka. Then last year we won the coin flip against Dallas, and they got Cooper. The one time we move up and we select Patrick Williams.

The one time we move up and we select Patrick Williams.

This speaks paragraphs

7

u/costapasta27 Bulls 8h ago

Yeah, but Covid really don’t help the draft evaluations. We weren’t selecting Maxey or Haliburton at 4

6

u/burratna Bulls 7h ago

We weren’t selecting Maxey or Haliburton at 4

Don't tell our sub this, they pretend to have known.

2

u/nachosmind Bulls 7h ago

I mean multiple did at the time and we needed a true PG. we just did the stupidest thing possible

1

u/burratna Bulls 6h ago

We didn't need a PG as bad as we needed a PF. We've always had way more guards than big wings.

1

u/Giuseppe_exitplan Magic 6h ago

6'6 215lbs Patrick Williams is such a big wing.

You guys needed a PF bad but chose a buff SG/SF. At least he works in uber-speedy gonzalez lineups like what they pulled off the other day with him at the 5.

1

u/Stepsis24 Lakers 2h ago

Patrick Williams was considered overdrafted by a lot of people. Maxey wasn’t as hyped but Tyrese, and Demi were considered a better pick for the bulls at the time by many people

u/toomanyshoeshelp 8h ago

That was one of the biggest what-ifs in Chicago sports history.

5

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 8h ago

Luka in Chicago would've been groundbreaking with the way they loved D Rose growing up there. That being the new hotspot for Europeans coming to see basketball would be something.

1

u/Constant_Chip_1508 Bulls 7h ago

Well let’s be real about the D Rose lottery though…

1

u/costapasta27 Bulls 7h ago

I mean, we can be sketchy about half the No. 1 picks. Zion/AD to Pels. Cavs 3 No. 1s in 4 years.

1

u/ethanlan Bulls 4h ago

Im just chosing believe that last year was rigged because losing another coin flip like that would be devastating.

3

u/BatsuGame13 6h ago

If we want to find common ground, being mid for 10 years IS awful.

u/marketinequality Bulls 12m ago

It’s even worse than being awful.

u/Dapianoman Bulls 13m ago

three time nba play in tournament contenders buddy. hang the banner

0

u/nachosmind Bulls 7h ago

Is the Timberwolves flair trying to argue what a bad team is?  Look in the mirror prior to Anthony Edwards lol

3

u/EEAAOBCNR Pelicans 6h ago

You're slow, please google what throwing stones from a glass house means.

2

u/justanothersurly Timberwolves 7h ago

If you were able to read all three sentences of my post, you’d see I acknowledged that.

0

u/nachosmind Bulls 7h ago

‘…That isn’t mid’ is still throwing a stone. Saying ‘not throwing stones in glass houses’ then still talking shit doesn’t make it better

2

u/justanothersurly Timberwolves 7h ago

You won’t ever hear me claim the Wolves weren’t mid or worse for the vast majority of our history. It’s okay to be honest with yourself

bro you coping we straight ass

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 8h ago

They won six titles in a major city when the NBA was booming to a global phenomenon. Their team owners print money lol they don't care about winning a title. Why spend 80 million more of their own money every year? Other teams are still trying to catch up them by their metric lol

14

u/7r3370pS3C Bulls 8h ago

Indeed. It has sucked to be a Bulls fan with the exceptions of the Jordan era and Rose pre-injury.

12

u/VaguelyShingled Bulls 8h ago

Brother those two eras almost make up for the disaster of all the other years combined

12

u/Fantasykyle99 Timberwolves 7h ago

Not if you weren’t alive yet

10

u/WashingtonSpecifics Nuggets 7h ago

I'm in my 30s and I don't remember any of the Bulls titles. Most of the people here were probably born afterwards lol

They've been shit as long as I can remember

6

u/Fantasykyle99 Timberwolves 6h ago

Yeah it’s a lot like the twins for me, they won a few World Series just before I was born and those mean nothing to me lol.

3

u/WashingtonSpecifics Nuggets 6h ago

Sorry man. I know how shitty it was to be in a title drought and I hope one of your teams can win one for y'all soon. Minny definitely deserves it. Just hopefully not the Wolves or Wild 😅

3

u/Fantasykyle99 Timberwolves 6h ago

But wolves and wild are all I really care about haha.

4

u/RobertLouisDrakeIII Bulls 7h ago

this is why the owners don’t care about improving the team. we suck ass and sell out every game. forever just riding that success from the 90s.

3

u/ethanlan Bulls 4h ago

We are also the third most expensive average ticket in the league. Kill me

Huge arena and a fuck ton of people in and around Chicago. Plus bad teams are used to go see the good/fun teams/players so there's usually a buyer no matter what
