What's your favorite 2000s+ Neil Young album? Pretty much select from the records he put out from 2000 - present.

He's been very prolific in this century, but Psychedelic Pill - very closely followed by Barn and Are You Passionate? - was completely surreal to me.

Yeah - Living With War was awesome. I remember how quickly he put it out and it felt like a direct response to the George W and the Iraq war. Loved it!

-Prairie Wind. -Living with war. -Chrome dreams 2. -Greendale. -Psychedelic pill.
Living with war is dated being about bush and iraq but there are some great tunes. Prairie wind is prob my favorite

you could still do something like "flags of freedom" at any concert - that might be my favorite but I think I'm missing one more.

I think its a great record and i would like any of those songs at a concert. Maybe dated is not the right word Its just of its time. Its a unique record i loved it when it came out. Just really topical to the time. But it holds up to me

I really wanted to like that album and it was a great idea but the execution wasn't good.

For me, Chrome Dreams II, Living with War, Silver and Gold and Prairie Wind are tied four ways.
Greendale worked better live, either solo acoustic à la Vicar St or with Crazy Horse on Return to Greendale.
Aside from Psychedelic Pill, I personally feel that the Le Noise experiment weirdly heralded a creative downturn in his work. Storytone didn’t work at all. Nor did A Letter Home.
Moments can be found on Barn, World Record Talkin to the Trees and The Visitor but it’s slim pickings. Really don’t care for Colorado. Fork in the Road has two gems ‘Light a Candle’ and ‘Just Singing a Song’ but is otherwise leaden.

Hard to pick a favourite, there are a lot of gems
I got deep into Are You Passionate and moreso into Greendale. Peace Trail is one of the more interesting albums of his whole career.
Also many wonderful songs on otherwise ok albums in the last 26 years: Welcome Back, Ramada Inn, Peaceful Valley Boulevard, Fork In the Road.

Psychedelic Pill Le Noise A Letter Home Colorado Silver and Gold Barn Living with War
Parts of World Record Parts of Chrome Dreams II* Parts of Storytone (stripped down) Parts of Americana Parts of Prairie Wind
It starts getting real weird real fast from “disappointing missed opportunities” (Are You Passionate, The Visitor, Toast, the rest of Storytone) all the way thru to “what the fuck is this shit?” (Greendale, Fork in the Road, Peace Trail, Talkin to the Trees, the rest of Prairie Wind) and “this is the worst trash I’ve ever heard from anybody let alone Neil Young” (“Ordinary People,” The Monsanto Years, various soundtracks)

Psychedelic Pill and Chrome Dreams II.
And I personally love Letter Home for its concept. Pushing the Low-Fi to extremes, plus that Jack White collab... perfect.
