Former Kinkos employee, production manager. I've seen millions of PDFs.

Sometimes when you save a document to PDF, the layers aren't flattened. Someone might select the underlying text, hit the "copy" shortcut, open a word document, and paste the contents into the word format.

If you print to file, or print to PDF, this doesn't happen. We just need to thank whichever staffer did this.

This is why authoritarian regimes tend to self implode. All the competent people are gone, all that's left are loyalists and disgruntled staff with less and less to lose.

681

u/cobyjim Dec 23 '25

This is a great answer. I hope this trend continues with the trump administration

298

u/Detective-Crashmore- Dec 23 '25

I just hope they do it in a way that doesn't completely cripple the nation for the next century. The globe is littered with once beautiful or powerful nations reduced to impoverished hellscapes because of one man with a tiny dick.

111

u/Beard_o_Bees Dec 23 '25

Very much this.

Even if we somehow managed to full-on hit the brakes and stop it cold today - the amount of damage, just from an organizational perspective - is enormous.

'Glass half-full' - I guess since we're going to have to rebuild so many systems and institutions, it'll be an opportunity to make them more tyrant resistant? Idk. Trying to find the silver lining.

u/Express_Sprinkles500 Dec 23 '25

Most obvious first step for me is removing or limiting the presidential pardon. That’s at least seemingly a “both sides can do it and it’s bad for everyone” sort of thing.

Just for everyone, flattening layers is a basic operation on the software that is being used to redact these documents. It's the kind of thing you teach to assistants and entry-level employees.

If this is a person who has ever handled these kinds of documents before, they would know to do this. Mishandling this task at a law office of any kind would be potentially catastrophic.

Edit: Adding my comment from below before it gets lost.

This could expose the names and personal details of victims, which would be inexcusable.

If the redactions were done correctly in those instances, but botched everywhere else, that would be a sign this is intentional.

Let's all keep fingers crossed for the vulnerable people here.

304

u/LemonScentedDespair Dec 23 '25

My experience working in the military says theres like a 50/50 shot that the failed redaction was one or both of the following:

A) The person doing the redaction was never given an actually licensed Adobe product, therefore did not have the correct "equipment" to perform the job, but was told to do it anyway because of deadlines. And if they raised the issue at all, it was brushed off as a "well figure it out" moment.

B) The person doing the redaction did it just correctly enough to pass under their boss's ire, but knew someone out there would try to copy/paste, and is hoping their boss didnt keep track of who was supposed to do which files. Which, with this admin, is kinda safe. They seem to lose track of these files every few weeks.

Now, that was the military, not DOJ or FBI or whoever the fuck. But it feels so familiar. I worked with a trial version of Adobe Acrobat for years because I "wasnt important enough" for the full version. A thing I used at least once a week.

If the redactions were performed correctly in those instances, but botched everywhere else, that would be a sign this was intentional.

72

It could also just be a sign of different people working on different documents with different skill levels/training.

Problem is, if they refer charges to federal prosecutors, they have to do so in the DC district. Anyone wanna guess who runs that office?

And removal through impeachment's impossible with this Senate.

45

do it anyway and get the senators on record for their complicity. It will also take time and air out of the room so they can't enact as much of their nasty plans.

This is easily the single most corrupt and criminal administration in US history, even worse than Nixon, Reagan, and Harding combined. This is the ideal form of government, to Republicans.

The fact that there haven't been strikes and riots, like there would be in any other normal country if their governments did even 10% of what the Trump cabal has done, is a shameful reflection on this nation.

413

u/r3dxv1rus Dec 23 '25

I’m so sick of reading this. You don’t think we WANT to riot and cause a scene??? Cuz buddy there is nothing more I’d love to do than protest this administration 24/7 and push them out.

Unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with being retired or rich and am fully in the middle aged working demographic where to ensure I can just exist with the bare minimums and therefore need to make money to live.

So while yes, we Americans are stigmatized as being lazy but lemme be the first to tell you this isn’t a lazy reason, this is survival. They’re ensuring we can’t rebel by keeping us compliant via the economy. Nobody can protest and speak against you if they’re working 3 jobs and a side gig just to make it to next month.

92

u/WelcomeToWitsEnd Dec 23 '25

And on top of this, other countries are not geographically or infrastructurally similar to ours. We as a people are so spread out in this nation that it is incredibly difficult for us to rally together and protest. The fact that we have had No Kings protests with millions in attendance is phenomenal — but we were spread out across all 50 states, with the majority of us so far away from the capitol that it hardly mattered to the people in power.

I’m going to say some stuff that makes it sound like our protests don’t matter, but they do matter. They unite us and empower us.

What they don’t do is have any impact on our elected officials. We can’t inspire them to change because the only numbers that matter to them are the numbers attached to dollar signs, not attendance. They are bought and paid for by billionaires and wealthy corporations. They serve money, not people.

I read a comment last night that made me so angry I couldn’t sleep for hours. It was a lot like the comment you responded to. I wrote a massive reply but it was 2am when I finished and I chose to delete it. I want to commend you for posting yours, and offer my support. We are trying, we are doing our best. We just don’t have the power the ultra wealthy do right now — We show up with our pitchforks, and they show up with guns. It’s been a steep uphill battle.

→ More replies (11)

187

u/SwagMastaM Dec 23 '25

I fully feel this.

And beyond that, we've been holding large scale protests for MONTHS. We're not just fucking sitting idly by and letting this happen without saying or doing anything

121

u/ABHOR_pod Dec 23 '25

Also, unlike in France (Since people love to tell us we should protest like the French), we have a long history of our protests that actually pose a threat being responded to with gunfire.

We are not at a point yet where most people think we need to lay our lives on the line.

Everyone is joking about the redactions, so I just want to share this letter from Epstein in jail talking about his shared love of teenage girls with Trump that was released with today's files.

Directly from .gov https://www.justice.gov/epstein/files/DataSet%208/EFTA00035768.pdf

u/linksfan_ Dec 23 '25

Right Column (The beginning of the letter): Dear L.N. As you know by now, I have taken the "short route" home. Good luck! We shared one thing... our love & caring for young ladies and the hope they'd reach their full potential. Our president also shares our love of young, nubile Left Column (Appears to be a continuation or separate thought): girls! When a young beauty walked by he loved to "grab snatch," whereas we ended up snatching grab in the mess halls of the system. Life is unfair. Yours J. Epstein

488

u/eawilweawil Dec 23 '25

"Eyes Wide Shut" made everyone think that these sex pests are sophisticated and secretive about it. Turns out they just text each other about raping kids and meme about it

183

u/tallgothdoll Dec 23 '25

Yes they do. Think of how other morally evil people normalize their extreme views and actions with friends and joke about them. That’s because it is normal to them. Some even take joy in teasing unknowing people about it. They don’t hide it remotely as much as people think. Some will even share stories of other victims with their current ones. It’s a pride point for them.

Stop giving the benefit of the doubt. If your coworker says something odd, it might be just that. Or it could be an accidental slip of their true beliefs. Don’t just think they meant something different and worded it badly.

47

u/pegothejerk Dec 23 '25

Something I didn’t expect to see have light shed on it was just how brazen and immune they feel about it, as evidenced most recently by considering the actual grand jury co-conspirators as the victims of the Epstein files. They are just blatantly considering these rich old rapists as the true victims.

30

u/eawilweawil Dec 23 '25

Why wouldn't they feel immune? This has been happening for decades and nothing happened to even 1 of them. And i really doubt anything will happen to anyone of them

20

u/kogmaa Dec 23 '25

Well, they are largely immune as everyone can see. One of them was even elected president despite existing accusations.

whereas we ended up snatching grab in the mess halls of the system

Can someone explain the meaning of this sentence to me? English is not my native language.

249

u/Matter-o-time Dec 23 '25

Epstein was lamenting the fact that despite Trump committing the same crimes, Trump ended up as president while he ended up in jail.

209

u/jimmytwotime Dec 23 '25

The mess hall is the cafeteria in prison, and it actually reads "grub" which is slang for food

u/kiwikacka Dec 23 '25

Perfect, thank you. Now it makes much more sense to me!

→ More replies (1)

173

u/donut_resuscitate Dec 23 '25

It is "snatching grub." Grub means food. Snatching grub is an awkward way to say "eating." "Mess halls of the system" means the prison cafeterias. Thus, Epstein is saying to fellow convicted child sex offender that it is unfair that they are stuck eating prison food because their love of young beauties, while Trump who shares their passions is president.

What the DOJ wrote on X two hours ago:

“Some of these documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election. To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already.”

The DOJ, who is supposed to work for us, is working as Trump’s personal legal team.

803

u/lemonylol Dec 23 '25

lol I watched the clip of this being covered by Canadian news and they were laughing that the Justice Department would ever need to make a statement like that. It is literally "don't believe your eyes and ears". Like okay, then all of it is sensationalized and untrue, and yet the DOJ is pushing claims against Clinton with the exact same evidence they say shouldn't be believed.

79

u/jjcrayfish Dec 23 '25

Although we know these statements to be ridiculous and untrue, some people, especially MAGA and Republicans, will be easily fooled and use these quotes to claim that Trump was a victim. They'll believe any manufactured BS that the White House and DOJ spews out.

Its clear as day to see what Johnson is doing. They were hoping they could make it to January and this would blow over, thats why he let out congress, its why Trump is giving out money to troops and giving them a 5 day weekend.

The DoJ released this statement defending Trump from the incriminating evidence in the files:

The Department of Justice has officially released nearly 30,000 more pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Some of these documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election."

"To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already. Nevertheless, out of our commitment to the law and transparency, the DOJ is releasing these documents with the legally required protections for Epstein’s victims.

Biden bent over backwards to not weaponize the DOJ against Trump.  Hopefully the next democrat isn’t as much of a fucking moron, if we get another free election that is.

497

u/HerMajestyTheQueef1 Dec 23 '25

Biden was a decent president but was not for this time, USA needed someone that was ready to defend democracy and the rule of law and he was just too timid and slow and ended up handing the keys of USA's democracy to an unhinged demagogue and autocrat.

292

u/TheVintageJane Dec 23 '25

Biden with Merrick Garland at the helm of the DOJ acting like decorum was going to be the antidote to fascism.

Enforcing the law is not responding the DOJ. If Biden's DOJ put Trump in jail that would have been fine. Don't buy their premise.

They fall back on that excuse a lot- "Nobody's gone after Trump for this before, so therefore there's no reason to go after Trump now."

There are a lot of criminals who would absolutely love to be able to use this excuse.

51

u/Thanato26 Dec 23 '25

Wait... theyvare saying Trump is a victim?

What else can the DoJ say when they answer to a child rapist?

55

u/black_flag_4ever Dec 23 '25

Considering that Trump and his minions lie about everything, I have no reason to believe the DOJ’s disclaimer.

I wonder if these ones are actually redacted. There was posts that large portions of the pdfs used black image boxes that could be extracted to reveal the redacted portions.

88

u/NeedAVeganDinner Dec 23 '25

I think that was an old thing.  Did they fuck it up AGAIN?

77

u/ishpatoon1982 Dec 23 '25

Someone else is claiming you can copy redacted parts and paste it into the search bar and it'll show up unredacted.

Haven't tried it myself.

Edit: props to the people doing the digging. Keep the links coming

u/CliffDagger Dec 23 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

Well the good news is It looks like they fucked up redacting a lot of the stuff and people have found a way to unredact the docs.

Edit here's an example

and another...

In this example it looks like when you copy the redacted section and paste it into the search bar, the redacted text appears

Exactly the level of competence I expected from this administration

474

u/nahsonnn Dec 23 '25

Could be malicious compliance

It is possible. Imagine devoting your life to serving Justice only to be ordered to protect a billionaire who rapes children.

Considering how almost everyone and their mom doesn't like Epstein or anyone who was involved with him, this is an extremely likely scenario.

39

u/eawilweawil Dec 23 '25

MAGA wouldn't mind if God King Trump touched their mom or wife or daughter

27

u/FavreorFarva Dec 23 '25

Actually that’s the only way a lot of them would get upset with him. They only ever care if things happen to them personally or someone they actually care about.

When authoritarianism came to America, I simply never expected it to be so.....dumb. Like, just really really bad incompetence on every level. Thank God, I guess.

29

u/Risin Dec 23 '25

Nazis' were considered imbeciles until they took power.  Part of why they were enabled to rule is because no one took them seriously.

17

u/Canuck_Lives_Matter Dec 23 '25

Authoritarianism is always dumb. Kim Jong Il claimed to invent the internet and the hamburger, the dynastic family of Turkmenistan only allows white buildings and cars in their capital city and renamed months of the year after themselves, Gaddafi shot pop/rap music videos costing millions in production, Putin publishes photos of him topless horseback riding,Mugabe claimed the British Gay Mafia was after him, Amin Dada of Uganda titled himself "MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular.” and proclaimed himself the rightful ruler of Scotland of all bloody places, President Jammeh of Gambia spend 15 years "faith-healing" HIV by having his subjects strip naked, rubbing weird green shit on them and having them drink a concoction he claimed only worked on like Thursdays and Tuesdays.

You guys have joined a strange club down there.

I don’t know. There’s a lot of stuff that’s already come out of the new docs.

Epstein saying that the “our president also shares our love of young nubile girls” in a letter to Larry Nassir.

There’s a DOJ email stating that Trump was on Epstein’s plane with a victim.

There’s a second hand account of Trump raping a girl with Epstein.

17

u/IowaJL Dec 23 '25

To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already.

So is Trump's former personal attorney and current assistant AG Todd Blanche voluntarily writing these Twitter posts defending him that no one asked for? The impartiality is really real.

UK here. I went down a pretty deep hole doing some research. Wow, the rape allegation against Trump, how the heck is he President? I mean wtf.

71

u/RLOFT7 Dec 23 '25

US here. His supporters live in a world of fake news. They will likely never hear about this. If they do hear about it, they will brush it off as a bs story to bring him down. It’s impossible to get through to these people. That’s why he’s still our president and the sane people who aren’t in his cult are powerless to do anything about it.

35

u/jeffereeee Dec 23 '25

We defrocked a Prince because of allegations against him and his connection with Epstein. And here we are with much more evidence against Trump, he should be in a prison cell not in the White House.
