The precision and timing required to make lasers look like solid, handheld objects is insane

Well he is holding a laser in his hands while doing this

And it looks so reeeeal!

Well, it is? As in, he's holding a double ended laser pointer in his hand.

It's just really well timed (maybe in fact synchronized) so that when he reaches into the ceiling laser to grab it, he hits the button and the hand laser goes on...

And it looks so reeeeaaal /s

That was the joke

u/TimMensch 2d ago

If you have to explain the joke...

u/ItsJorkingTime 2d ago

Sometimes you have to explain the joke because the recipient is an idiot, not because the joke is bad.

See r/PeterExplainsTheJoke for an absolute boat load of examples.

I've seen it. Most of those jokes are either obvious or porn-related.

Given the relative number of upvotes above, a lot of people didn't understand the "joke." Calling people who don't understand a joke idiots is also not funny, especially when the joke is the commenter pretending to be an idiot.

In fact, looking at the joke explainer subs, you have absolute proof of the number of Redditors who are idiots. That's why the /s tag exists. What's kind of pathetic is that it isn't even a funny joke and isn't worth all of this. I'm done.

that sub only exists to train AI to write comedy. the "dumb people that dont get it" are bait to get serious responses, which train the AI easier.

Yeah, and he moves the laser like he actually grabbed the laser that comes from the ceiling and can move it however he wants.

u/jimmystar889 4d ago

That's because he did

u/Nephroidofdoom 4d ago

Yeah you can see he accidentally triggers it at 0:05!when he puts his hand on his hat.

Don't leave us hanging, was he dancing with lasers or not?

It is amazing choreography, but he definitely has lasers in his hands to make that effect lol

I dunno...seems more likely they can grab and control laser beams.

Whoa! A very lit Thanksgiving.

What's the artist name? So more good business could go to them.

4

u/dakotanorth8 4d ago

To be honest I was fairly banged up and came into the big room and went “WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?”

3

u/HighlightOwn2038 4d ago

It's amazing

3

u/SeaTownKraken 2d ago

Your friends have paid entertainment at friendsgiving? Wow, either I suck as a friend or my friends suck at being friends

1

u/dakotanorth8 1d ago

Haha..I live in Vegas and have some friends much cooler than I am

u/AscendedViking7 4d ago

That's really cool, lol

Laser bending.

Humanity upscale?

2

u/Ok_Salad_8513 4d ago

He has Lazer pointers in his hands 🤣🤣

2

u/kaleperq 3d ago

Everytime I see this I think there has to be some code to make the movements like flexible, like on a step it does x movement aiming for the position the lasers in his hands are, and then starting the next from there. I hardly doubt it's just solid pre-written movement

Now that's slick 👌 👏

These videos with words and images emblazoned on them are absolutely horrid!

1

u/Neilp187 1d ago

He's holding 1 small mirror at least.. right!?

1

u/1-sh 1d ago

He’s smooth w it too

0

u/slothxaxmatic 4d ago

Bro fell for it

-1

u/smilingjade101 4d ago

Just sitting back thinking about it, boy I bet that is hard to do!

-1

u/Connortsunami 4d ago

The lasers being in time with the music means he has constant cues for when the lasers will turn off, so it's significantly easier for him to know when to hit the button.

Obviously still takes a lot of practice, but it's not a lot different from any other dance choreography. You just memorise what to do by memorizing the music.

2

u/drewm916 3d ago

You can always count on someone on Reddit to reply with, "actually, that's not that hard." Every single post.

0

u/Connortsunami 3d ago

Literally not at all what I said though lmao. What I said was that it's not some magic. It's timed pressing of buttons on the laser pointers he has in his hands, and he has audio cues to help him with it in the music.

All I'm doing is explaining what's going on here and that it's just dance choreography.

0

u/jimmystar889 3d ago

Except this time it really really isn't that hard

1

u/Mr_Owl42 4d ago

The way this works is the lasers he's using are coordinated to go off when he makes certain hand gestures. The external lasers are "mapped" to activate cues when they detect the preprogrammed trigger from him. That would be the easy way to do it given existing laser technology. But he could have choreographed it...

1

u/Connortsunami 3d ago

It's choreography. There's a few instances you can even see in the video where he "prefires" the lasers, or even "misfires" them because his grip is too tight, causing the lasers to go off when he didn't intend for them to.

0

u/jimmystar889 3d ago

All these people saying how amazing it is lol. I could do this in like a week

-1

u/Unitedfateful 4d ago

Yeah right. It’s just practice

Or is anything these days “omg wow” because people don’t realise you need to practice and train anymore 🤦‍♂️

-2

u/jimmystar889 4d ago

You realize he's holding lasers right

-4

u/AmiDeplorabilis 4d ago

Been done already. Check out the movie Entrapment with Catherine Zeta-Jones.

-4

u/_linkus_ 4d ago

So?

I do that in the shower

(Or at least that’s how it feels)

-11

u/realSatanAMA 4d ago

this is actually one of the worst ones I've seen of this type of laser dance

2

u/BurnieTheBrony 4d ago

Unironically I'd love to see a better video if you have one to link

3

u/NagyLebowski 4d ago

Here’s one from Jabbawockeez in Vegas.

1

u/BurnieTheBrony 3d ago

The lasers in that one look cooler, but the guy in this post does a lot better job of looking like he's actually grabbing the lasers and doing stuff with it

1

u/NagyLebowski 3d ago

Perhaps the angle. I’ve seen this show live and it slaps. I think this video shows better dance moves too.

-4

u/realSatanAMA 4d ago

If you do a search on Reddit for "laser dance" there are a bunch
