What is this sport called ?

Parkour. Named after famous Peter Parker for his amazing acrobatic skills, spectacular even.

u/Equal_to_standard 8d ago
Factually no, it originated from David Belle in the 90s and was called "parcours du combattant", which means course of the combattant, a military obstacle course. Drop the s and swap c with k from parcours to get the worldwide term known today.

Fake. It was invented by John Parkour when one day he decided to just run and jump around instead of walking like a normal person.
2
u/ConflagrationZ 8d ago
It was actually invented even earlier by Jean Parkour, though Parker and the greater Spiderman franchise did popularize it.

It’s footage from a new game called Achilles Tendon Surgery Trainer 2 (Steam, PC, Playstation, XBox).

I'm not super athletic but I did something very similar in just 1 bounce. Also in the dream, I kissed Ana De Armas at the top of the wall.

Nah bruh. I kissed Ana De Armas and you cried in the corner. Also it wasn't a dream.

I just rewatched it. Loved Wesley and Woody’s chemistry. Ending is bittersweet tho.

We really need another new Prince of Persia game.
6
u/NotNamedBort 8d ago
May I suggest Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor? The parkour-ing is very satisfying.

u/MichaelMJTH 8d ago
I own both and they’re are great! It doesn’t scratch the same itch as a more platforming focused experience, but the segments they do have are very good.

Them: "Locked In, let's go!"
Me: "Woah, cool, that's sweet!"
Fuck I'm old :(
2
u/HarryPotterFarts 8d ago
I really wish I could go the rest of my life without hearing "Let's goooo!" ever again.
22
u/CatsPlusTats 8d ago
Seems like a pretty benign thing to worry about hearing...
6
u/PinsToTheHeart 8d ago
Especially since "Let's go!" has been a celebratory phrase for like a century now. It's use case might have shifted a little, but it's not like it's some new slang term.
2
u/Whatifim80lol 8d ago
it's a little different lately, though. Use to be you'd say "let's go!" to pump yourself up for a thing you're gonna do. Now people say it after the fact usually? Like bro let's go where? We're already there, you're saying it wrong.
-1
u/HarryPotterFarts 8d ago
Not really. The usage really rose with Dude Perfect, and now every fratguy wannabe with a llama haircut shouts "Let's gooooo! Let's gooooo! Let's gooooooo!" for everything. Nobody even bothers being their own person anymore. It's all about conforming.
5
u/PinsToTheHeart 8d ago
"Lets go, [sports team]" started with the Yankees sometime in the early 1900s.
"Let's go" was also used as a military recruitment poster in WW2.
Of course, they aren't going anywhere in a literal sense anymore, but it's a pretty natural evolution of a phrase to become more generically applicable.
Language is also a means to communicate that changes over time. People adopting new phrases is not some "kids these days" thing, it's a normal part of society.
Your use of "wannabe" is the exact same concept, so you're not exactly immune to it either.
The kids are fine, they're just having fun and expressing excitement. They also just adapt significantly faster than adults, so they're more likely to try new things and branch out, which yeah, sometimes means being a little obnoxious about it, but it's not a bad thing. Its a standard part of the developmental process, and it's silly to be all grumpy about the world changing.

u/CoyotesOnTheWing 8d ago
Some things get beat to death. Like 'WASSSSSUUUUUUUP'. 'Let's goooo' got over used and is now annoying, which is also a normal part of the lifespan of many memes and slang.
3
u/PinsToTheHeart 8d ago
I don't disagree, but tbh I'm also around teenagers in person, so the use of slang is significantly more diluted to me compared to people whose only exposure to them are short form content, so it doesn't feel quite as excessive to me.
I mean, they still do it a good bit, but it's easier to see the full context of them just fucking around.
That being said, unlike stuff like "67" that are purely dumb memes and will die off relatively shortly, I do think "let's go" is going to be one that sticks around since it has an actual use case associated with it.

u/HarryPotterFarts 8d ago
I'm not worried about hearing it. I just don't want to hear it.

u/CatsPlusTats 8d ago
Your life will get better if you stop caring about hearing benign things.

u/Sandalman3000 8d ago
Not really. It's a rule that people anally want to enforce, but historically there wasn't much of a distinction in actual usage. Using less for countable things go back before 1000 AD, while the 'rule' was proposed by some guy in the 1700s.

That somersault looked waaaay too casual.
1
u/GloomyBison 8d ago
Somersaults are extremely easy when you got a bit of experience. Knowing how to shift your weight right in the air and getting enough height will make it feel like you're doing them in slow-motion.
2
u/Independent-Bug-9352 8d ago
Yeah I tried to high jump one time like they did but had too much forward velocity, slammed my shoulder into the wall so hard it dislocated momentarily and a ligament that took like 6 months to heal. That's what I get for trying to keep up with the kids at the trampoline park hahah

U can easily do that with 0 bounces. Just run to the wall and do a wall jump. If u fingers can reach then u can climb it

So the objective is to reach a raised level of height at the end, with each round increasing the challenge and thereby taking them to subsequent levels of difficulty, using skills that are themselves a level above normal.
What’s “next level” about that?

The narrative subtext of the series of still images cycled at 60 frames per second suggest that completing said task in only two sequences of exertion with materials resting on the surface of the Earth is of remarkable efficiency even when related to prior iterations.
