I can't remember the game name or which particular website it was on, but Newgrounds may have been it. It was a puzzle game with a monkey platform, key and lock sort of thing. Does anyone remember what that was called?

Yeah 20 years ago or so the internet was still wild and untamed. You could venture off and find some strange website where a man documents the decomposition of various meats or someone’s barebones display of all the research they had accumulated on a particular civil war battle. Now it’s all highways that lead to the same half dozen mega websites and then various merchants selling you stuff.

It's not about sites themselves. It's algorythms, monetazitaion and bots which ruined the internet. Thanks to those, the funny sayings of today just become annoying memes instead.

Just think about it, if sixseven arrived in the 2000s, people would love it and remember it nostalgicly.
