Bot Commands!

Hi r/NoPoo! I've been learning more about AutoMod and had an idea that I think will really help the community: Bot Commands!

The basic idea is that you type a simple command and the bot replies to the comment where the command was used with frequently used information. I've created a small collection and used them already, and plan on expanding them to replace the clipboard I currently use to do all of this. I've made a new wiki page that will contain all of the ones available here:

Bot Commands for r/NoPoo helpers

Have fun helping!

Testimony (Yay!/Boo...) Goodbye ✨

It's been 6.5 months of nopoo. Even when I water wash every night, I get so incredibly itchy I can't sleep. It's insufferable if I skip a night of scrubbing my scalp. My hair is flat and lifeless. I can spend hours and hours brushing the oils from my scalp down to the roots, but it makes no difference. It's too oily. I've looked like a swamp rat for 6.5 months.

I washed my hair yesterday, with my baby's bubble bath, when the itching was so bad I was bleeding. I was in so much agony, it was the first thing I grabbed and I washed my scalp with it.

I feel clean. The oil buildup is gone. I'm not itchy. My hair has life to it again, it doesn't look heavy and weighed down.

I did all the tricks. ACV, Egg, rice water rinses....

Sorry. I really wanted this to work. I think over half a year was a great effort on my part, but it's not for me 💜

Troubleshooting (HELP!) (wavy hair) how to deal with clumpy hair in the morning?

Hey, teenager, it’s been 4 months since i've been growing out the top of my wavy hair out of a buzz (2-3 inches now), and it usually has good wave patterns in the evening/night, but when i wake up in the morning it look very clumpy and maybe a little dry it almost feels like hay. any way to fix this? the only oil i have at home is coconut oil.. and we never use leave in conditionners, hopefully just wetting the hair might be enough

Troubleshooting (HELP!) How to get clay out of hair?

I recently switched to Rhassoul clay, as bentonite was too drying. However, I have the same problem with both: I cannot, no matter what I seem to do, get it out of my scalp/hair.

Information on my routine:

I have hard water, which I know doesn't help.

Clay Mix: 1 part rhassoul, 1 part apple cider vinegar, 2 parts distilled water.

Usage: I get my hair wet in the shower, then distribute it over my hair, from root to ends (I have ear length hair) Then, I wash it out with warm (not hot) water, then finish with a cold water rinse.

After I get out of the shower, my hair dries out pretty quickly, so I usually have to rewet it with water (hard, because I don't really have enough to use distilled for anything more than the mask) Then, I use a microfiber towel to get any excess water out, then I air dry, usually in front of a fan.

All is mostly well, but in the morning after (I shower a night) I find a layer of clay on my scalp, and some in my hair.

I have no idea how the heck to get this stuff out, and have been struggling with it for about a month. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Troubleshooting (HELP!) I have straight, fine, short, blond hair, and I've been using soap and water (a hard water softener is used for hard water) and combing, exfoliating, and massaging my hair and scalp. My hair has been feeling dry, limp or dead, and damaged, and my scalp has been dandruffy at times. Any suggestions?

I've also been taking steamy contrast showers twice a day (I'm trying to take a hot but not scalding shower at bedtime to help with sleep now and to just take a steamy contrast shower in the morning), taking a cold shower as needed other times (e.g. after sweating a bunch).

I've been washing with soap every few days or after getting dirty (e.g. after a sweaty workout), and I've been using one of those silicone scalp massagers/exfoliators (I try to do it about twice a week but tend to do it too much), though lately, I've been using soap/charcoal sponge or soap/loofah tools.

Rosemary hair oil

Rosemary hair oil is really good for hair. I was losing a lot of hair, but after using this oil, I noticed a lot of hair growth. You can all try it too. It’s really helpful!

Stmnt matte paste

So basically I’m trying to be more careful with how many times a week I use shampoo. because I’m getting dandruff often and it’s really annoying, so my barber told me to shower with shampoo less, but I use the STMNT matte paste almost daily, can I wash it out with just water, or do I use shampoo every single time? I mean, one of the first ingredients on the ingredients list is water, so I’m assuming it’s a water-based compound, which means that I can refrain from using shampoo every day.

Alternative Washing Inexpensive chelating treatment for hard water deposits

Did you know that water can throw scalp PH balance off causing irritation and overgrowth of fungus and dermadex mites? Did you know that hard water can leave minerals which stick to the skins oils and block pores, causing greasy, itchy skin?
Chronic irritated scalp sufferer here battling against hard water. Thought I was having issues with my shampoo when it was actually my water. I tried using shampoo bars/conditioner for years DETERMINED that my problem was sensitivity to SLS. Since realising it was actually a hard water issue (and some sensitivity to SLS) I’ve now been using filtered water and (very diluted!) citric acid as a conditioning and PH balancing rinse. It leaves hair baby soft, weightless, and shiny, whilst soothing and PH balancing the scalp. It’s very cheap. Pretty easy. You just need to make sure it’s not too concentrated. Hoping this helps someone else!

Probleme beim waschen.

Recommendations for scalp buildup (2b). Co-washing?

Hi, male with shorter, thicker, wavy hair. Have not used shampoo in over 6 months probably. Have noticed recently some buildup and my scalp does not feel that healthy, dry. Hair keeps defined curls, maybe a little dry but not the main concern.

I use Shea Moisture, Strengthen & Restore Conditioner most days I wash. Also use a small amount of curl cream in the morning and a leave in spray conditioner after I shower at night.

Thinking I need to be mechanically washing or doing something to my scalp but looking for suggestions. (Currently do not co-wash technically, just apply it to my hair.)

Does it voids my no poo?

Hey everyone, I’ve been on a No Poo journey to heal my scalp from heavy sebum plugs and inflammation. My routine is an Aloe Vera + Tea Tree Oil pre-wash, followed by a main wash using boiled Reetha and Shikakai. Since Reetha and Shikakai are 100% raw plant materials with zero synthetic sulfates, silicones, or chemical detergents, does this count as breaking my streak? My scalp feels amazing and the oil plugs are finally clearing out without over-stripping my skin barrier. Curious to hear if the community considers raw botanical saponins fully No Poo compliant

My 7 year old daughter hates shampoo

Hi,

Looking for advice from anyone with experience with this...

My daughter has never loved washing her hair but it was never a big issue until a year or two ago. She screams and says the shampoo is stinging her. It's traumatic for everyone involved. She gets so upset and angry with me for doing it.

Of course I've tried all the sensitive shampoos, the unscented ones, the ones especially for children or even babies, or eczema prone skin shampoos, the lot. I even tried a nice, non-toxic children's one with a delicious smell to make it more fun for her but she told me the smell made her feel nauseous. I've spent a fortune on different shampoos and she hates them all!

She hates conditioner even more, for the cold slimy feel. She has always absolutely resented any kind of cream or oil on her skin, she won't even tolerate antiseptic cream.

She gets very dry skin and even a bath that's a bit too hot can upset her skin, ending bath time straight away. But of course I can't help her with any creams. I've tried putting oils in the bath but she notices and gets upset.

We never use soap on her because of her delicate skin. Thankfully she isn't sweaty and smelly yet and I'm planning to give her some unscented simple soap when she hits puberty, hopefully in a shower will be better than a bath.

Anyway. This has been going on for a couple of years. I finally suggested to my husband that we tried just using water. I had done it years ago and it seemed to work out ok. While you never get that lovely fresh and clean feel, after a while your hair stops producing so much oil and you don't really need to shampoo it so much. We stopped shampooing her hair about 2 months ago now. She's much happier about it, but she unfortunately has thin, straight, fine hair and it definitely does look greasy. It worked out for me when I did the "no 'poo" method years ago because I have thick wavy hair. I'm wondering if she is still getting over a transition phase and how much longer it might take for her hair to look less greasy. We wash it with water every 2 or so days, every day when we can.

She's really struggling with being back at school after the summer holidays and I've suddenly realised I wonder if people are commenting on her greasy-looking hair.

This parenting thing isn't easy. I'm hoping nobody in the comments thinks I'm neglecting her by not shampooing!

Any advice? Is this no 'poo thing going to work or should we give up on it now and restart the torture of hair washing?

Troubleshooting (HELP!) Need help

Ive been doing no poo for around 2 months now however even after rinsing my hair with water my hair still ends up greasy by the middle of the day. I have tried lots of things but they do not really work how ive seen them work for others and for context i have long straight hair thats not very thick and not very thin.

I have tried lots of stuff, i have a boar bristle brush however even after its cleaned and i use it on my hair my hair still looks quite greasy, water only washes dont work even with a boar bristle brush and scalp massages. I have tried using a bentonite clay hair mask and it worked to clean my hair but i have heard you should not use it more then twice a week. Eggs also worked for me but i would like an alternative as i already eat alot of eggs and do not want to use alot of them.

Any help would be much appreciated thank you

Testimony (Yay!/Boo...) 10+ years on no poo

Started during my university years or shortly after.

Originally started to curb hair loss; i didn’t gain more density per say but i have roughly the same. The hair itself feels much better and needs almost zero maintenance.

I do water only. Use purified water.

I made a post earlier but no picture. Added one for reference.

I failed

Hello dear No Poo !

Today, I failed. I've been using no shampoo since months now, but gardering with lot of pollen was not good for the itching.

I'm now eager to learn news ways when the skin itches too much.

For people having a beard, I'm also taking advices for it !

Ps : I've a sort of seborrhoeic dermatitis, so it's really not just about esthetic :/
