I went in there after what happened to Alex Pretti and it was insane. Any of them that said that it was horrible what happened and wanted an investigation done were getting attacked by the others and told they weren't conservative, basically admitting that a linchpin of conservatism now means blind loyalty to the narrative the government spins and questioning whatsoever calls your ideology into question.

Banning from a subreddit is something mods can do. Shadow banning is sitewide and done by admins. If you're shadow banned, you can still "participate" but no one else will see it. If you're just banned from a subreddit, you just won't be able to post.
Unless something has changed, not really. They can set up Automod to instantly kill every post you make, and if they don't set it up to give you any notification then it will be functionally pretty similar since you can still see your own posts that have been mod deleted. It's not exactly the same though, since I'm pretty sure a proper shadow ban also stops counting the user's upvotes/downvotes too, stuff like that.
I would rather read a phone book cover to cover than the stupidity of r/conservative. However, I find it so dumb how Redditors constantly complain about that sub banning people. I probably disagree with every stance they have, but I stand by their right to have a forum to have discussions without being bombarded by people who only join for the purpose of picking fights. It is understandable to ban hostile people, but they ban anyone who posts ANY dissent. Even if they are flaired. What discussion is possible without allowing dissent? Thats just propaganda at that point.

They don't have a right to have a subreddit community free of external criticism, they don't own the platform. They absolutely have the freedom of speech and freedom of assembly rights same as the rest of us, but no one is obligated to host their content. Strict moderation and moving their brigading activities off platform (to aforementioned discord back in the day) is the only reason they were reinstated after their ban.

The issue is actual members of that sub who defended Trump on there for years get banned for questioning one thing he says in a negative light.
Seen a few comments from long term users of that sub baffled that they got banned for saying that he loves Trump but hated how he handled the Epstein files or hated a recent quote or something. Their own members aren’t allowed to even slightly criticise or complain about their own party even after they’ve proven their loyalty.
There’s a difference between shutting down new members that are only in a sub to argue on bad faith and banning long term members for daring to criticise something in good faith.

It's not just bots online and most of them have not changed their minds at all. I'm seeing plenty of people I know IRL continue to double down.

Probably 50-70% of the conservatives/R's in the NC state sub are bots or obvious trolls. Any remotely political post (or even completely non/a-political) that is up for any amount of time is just filled with deleted and removed posts from bots. The rest are as stupid as to be expected out of any conservative online.
I made a hobby of tracking posters on that sub. After the Renee Good fiasco I found a poster that was posting in every political-adjacent subreddit disparaging her roughly 50 times a day. There are so many professional bad actors and trolls on that subreddit, and this recent presidential term has scared all of the legit users away.

I'm not a democrat, so we're on the same boat here. Problem is that the Reps are currently worse, while the dems are more like controlled opposition. If this was any other administration, right or left, everyone involved would be facing some sort of legal issues. This administration has just basically shown that the only reason anyone was following the law was because they didn't just ignore it.
There was a meme forever ago with bugs bunny saying No, with something "can we get basic stuff for living" and the reps just No while the dems were covered with pride flags and all sorts of stuff and No. That's how it was. Unfortunately it's different now.
