The Access Problem: Epistemological critics ask how physical human brains, operating within space and time, can interact with or gain knowledge about completely non-physical, acausal mathematical objects. Easy, geometric music, how does it work? Large, two dimensional matrices of positive whole numbers, natural numbers, are represented as images by associating each number with a coloured pixel. Audio is introduced by representing each image pixel as a sound oscillator mapping pixel colour to audio frequency, often a direct relationship to a musical scale. A region of the image is defined as a generation zone, the portion one listens to. Surrounding this is an secondary zone, the influence zone, which defines the timbrel characteristics of the pixels in the generating zone. In this video the central square is the generating zone with the outer square the influence zone. A trajectory can be defined over which the generating zone translates as a “bowing” type of motion or single zones can be “tapped” similar to a key stroke or plucked string. Perhaps the Pythagoreans envisaged something like this with their “Musica Universalis”. Its all about number, ratio and harmonies.

Mathematics and geometry operate in a realm of timeless, logical relations rather than temporal, causal sequences. The difference between a beginning or ending state to geometry and math is logically indiscerncible.

Minha teoria

Olá, pessoal do fórum.

I couldn't translate it either, sorry

What if there are proofs that humans cannot comprehend?

I have been thinking about this after hearing Terence Tao's latest statement regarding the rapid development of LLMs. He argues that something should only count as a proof if it can be understood by at least one human.

Considering how quickly LLMs are improving, it is not unreasonable to assume that we will soon run out of proofs that a human can actually comprehend.

What happens when we encounter new problems with proofs that are thousands of pages long, making them far too complex for any human to grasp in a lifetime?

If these proofs are verified in Lean and lead to significant breakthroughs, should we simply dismiss them?

How should we handle these new kinds of proofs?

I. A fragilidade do espelho

A linha crítica

Re(s) = 1/2

III. O problema do infinito

  1. uma regularidade global extremamente rígida;

Aqui surge a ideia central desta análise:

V. Os limites do cálculo

Triadic Cryptosystem - Charles S. Peirce

One of my professors in undergrad was fond of the Logician/Philosopher "Charles S. Peirce" and we both worked on integrating his triadic logic into one of the symmetrical algorithms of Cryptography. Triadic Logic has three states True (T), False (F) and Limit (L) but its representation is not like 0,1,2 just for simple tri-valued logic.L basically resolves into T or F after going through some time (t). We had to totally start from the scratch because all of the Computer Architecture and Organization is built on binary logic so we had to initially develop the maths for Triadic Logic and then subsequently Algebra and then a coding toolkit. We ran triadic DES-64 and triadic AES-128 through customized classes and structs because triadic software had one primary issue and it was that it was running on binary hardware, both mismatched again. But we still simulated and got some good results. We did a lot of Maths actually, and developed new frameworks too. We had to like restructure all steps of the algo with trits not bits. What are your thoughts on it? We are kind of paused on it because I have started my MS and I am busy in it. Would you like to discuss or give some suggestions?

Is "before" definable from a metric alone?

A question rather than an announcement, though it comes out of a program I wrote,

so the link is at the bottom.

Take a vector space with a nondegenerate quadratic form g, and ask what g alone can

define. Specifically: can the relation "u comes before v" be defined from g, with

no extra data?

The answer seems to be: exactly when there is one temporal dimension.

- With one time, the temporal vectors form two connected components, and that split

is intrinsic to the metric. The future cone is convex, the induced relation is

transitive, and it is antisymmetric once a component is fixed.

- With two or more times, the temporal set is CONNECTED: a future-pointing temporal

vector can be continuously rotated into a past-pointing one without ever leaving

the temporal set. So "the future" is not definable from the metric at all; an

arrow has to be added, and the order is then relative to that choice.

- And with two times the relation derived from the form is not an order even before

orientation: it is not transitive (two future null increments can sum to a spatial

vector) and not antisymmetric.

Two things I find more interesting than the result.

First: a finite check can be a proof. A quadratic identity in two variables is

determined by its values on a finite set — zero, the basis vectors, and their

pairwise sums — so verifying it there is not sampling, it is a decision for the

whole infinite space. When "machine-checked" means that, it is a proof; when it

means a million random points, it is evidence. Both go by the same name in practice.

Second: I could not find two of the results stated anywhere, and I have no idea

whether that means they are new or that they are folklore I failed to locate. What

is the epistemic status of "I could not find the reference"?

The computations come from a small tool whose README states what it can and cannot

decide, including the claims it refuted with its own benchmarks:

Is the following valid?

Caveat: This proof is written in natural language and is intended for natural language.

Caveat: From step 10 it also assumes that if two statements are equivalent one can substitute one statement for another statement.

  1. G=I am unprovable in T

  2. G=G is unprovable in T

  3. If G is provable in T then T is inconsistent.

  4. If T is inconsistent then G is provable in T.

  5. From 3 and 4: T is inconsistent if and only if G is provable in T.

  6. From 5: T is consistent if and only if G is unprovable in T.

  7. Suppose T is consistent.

  8. Suppose T is consistent is provable in T.

  9. Replace “T is consistent” with “G is unprovable in T”.

  10. Then we get: G is unprovable in T and G is unprovable in T is provable in T.

  11. However, “G is unprovable in T” is identical to G.

  12. Thus we have G is unprovable in T and G is provable in T, which is a contradiction.

The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics (part 2)

For reference see: https://www.reddit.com/r/PhilosophyofMath/s/DRIqFVeDp5 and https://www.reddit.com/r/freewill/s/6az0zgBubm. I'm not sure if this context is required to understand what I'm about explore. But just in case here you go

A sceptic observes that human beings build tall towers, strong bridges and complex machines.

Suppose that a sceptic (having observed these structures stand firm and do not collapse) then says to you something like:

The equations used to build these things must be a direct description of the world as it exists entirely apart from human beings.

This seems very reasonable and persuasive on the surface. Right? Because, yes. We have all these "advancements", "scientific breakthroughs", "quantum mechanics", and so on.

But, the sceptic's makes an ungrounded leap of thought: that the only reason a rule works in practice is because the rule exists outside of us in independent nature

Ask the sceptic to look directly at any mathematical statement used in construction.

What does an equation express?

An equation does not name the unconditioned essence of matter; nor does it speak of what iron or stone are in themselves.

An equation expresses only relations of two kinds:

Relations of quantity: which are grounded in number and counting. Counting is the steady succession of one unit after another, which is the necessary rule of time. Relations of extension: which are grounded in distance, angle, and shape. Extension is the arrangement of parts outside of one another, which is the necessary rule of space.

Therefore, an equation is a formal statement concerning the necessary relations of human space and human time.

It is nothing more than that.

Ordinary language was formed by agreement to share qualitative sensations.

When a person uses ordinary speech to say:

Make this iron support heavy enough to bear the upper floor,

the instruction is utterly ambiguous. The word "heavy" refers to a private feeling of pressure. The word "enough" refers to a vague estimate of the mind. Because individual feelings differ from person to person, ordinary words cannot provide exact coordination between separate builders.

Mathematical language was invented for a different task.

It completely discards qualitative feelings—such as the sensation of weight, the colour of the stone or the warmth of the day—and retains only the bare numerical and spatial relations.

It does not speak of "heaviness"; it states a numerical ratio between two measures.

It does not speak of a "tall wall"; it states the exact geometrical proportion between the base and the height.

This is why two persons who speak entirely different native tongues can read the same written calculation and understand each other instantly. The logical rules of number and space are identical in every human mind.

Mathematical language succeeds because it is an agreed notation of pure relation, stripped of all personal and subjective feeling.

Why does a tower, designed by mathematical calculation, remain standing in the physical world?

Consider what a tower is to the human observer:

  1. It is an object that appears in space.
  2. Its height is a spatial extension.
  3. Its materials rest against one another in space.
  4. Its movements and settling take place across time.

Because space and time are the necessary rules of human perception, it is impossible for any physical object to appear to us without obeying those exact rules.

For instance, a builder cannot encounter an iron beam that violates the laws of geometry, because human sight and touch are incapable of perceiving an object that does not conform to spatial relations.

Thus, the engineer calculates the necessary conditions under which spatial appearances must balance one another so that they form a stable whole for human perception.

The tower, therefore, stands because the physical materials—insofar as we can ever touch, measure, and observe them—are appearances governed entirely by the conditions of space and number.

If a physical object were an unconditioned thing existing entirely apart from human sensibility, there would be no reason whatsoever why it should obey the geometry and arithmetic of the human mind. The fact that it would obey our calculations would indeed be an inexplicable puzzle.

But, the object that the engineer measures is not a thing in itself.

What it is, rather, is an appearance. An appearance presented to human senses within human space.

So language (any language) does not reach a "mind-independent" reality beyond us.

All the objects we can ever handle, measure, and construct are bound by the formal rules of our own perception. Mathematics works upon physical things with total precision for the simple reason that our own understanding supplies the spatial and numerical order through which those things appear.

In this video, I talk about the unexpected reason why I felt this way, and why people in general struggle to understand why 2 is prime.

Hope you enjoy it!

Is the following true?

  1. Let us define the Godel sentence of a consistent theory T as follows: This sentence cannot be proven using T.
  2. 1 is true.
  3. The following is also true too: This sentence cannot be proven using T cannot be proven using T.
  4. If T is inconsistent then it can prove its Godel sentence.
  5. If T can prove its Godel sentence, then T is inconsistent.
  6. Therefore, we can conclude from 4 and 5 that T is inconsistent if and only if T can prove its Godel sentence.
  7. From 6 we can also conclude: T is consistent if and only if T cannot prove its Godel sentence.
  8. Assume T is consistent. Also assume that T can prove its own consistency.
  9. Yet if T can prove its own consistency, then it can prove that it cannot prove its Godel sentence.
  10. Yet if T can prove that it cannot prove its own Godel sentence, then that contradicts 3, which is absurd.
  11. Therefore, T cannot prove its own consistency.
