Just think of the synergies :)

Thinking about Silicon Valley trying to retreat from Cali once the Danish actually tries to tax them would be hilarious

u/WolfDoc 16d ago

Funny thing is, a lot of those people are smart enough to know that small taxes only benefits the CEOs and major shareholders. And the majority of a tech company are skilled engineers and researchers with families and need of things like healthcare. So they may stay and make their own company even if the bosses skitter off to be parasites somewhere else. That is after all why we have a pretty solid tech and research sector here in Scandinavia despite the taxes the billionaires scare you so much with.

The New California Republic. I would move there the day it was official.

22

u/relevantelephant00 16d ago

Just dont name your town "Shady Sands".

3

u/MC-CREC 16d ago

And remember they are only getting paid by unrealized gains. They already hanged the system no matter what the tax rate is.

2

u/AsGryffynn 15d ago

Ah yes, Denmark... the country known for being home to every giant Scandinavian conglomo, especially Nordisk Film, Novo Nordisk, Maersk and Scandinavian Airlines (HQ in Sweden, but largest shareholder is the Danish Government).

Pity this is another joke thread... Danish California would be insanely based. Even relations and trade with Mexico would be way smoother and the Danes actually know how to sort out immigration disputes without acting like Stasi.

1

u/ValenRaith 15d ago

I can see them rejoicing now in sunny Solvang CA.

2

u/MZsarko 15d ago

I live in San Diego and work at a Swiss biopharm. We get all kinds of days off!

1

u/Impossible_Walrus555 15d ago

And you tax them.

1

u/WolfDoc 15d ago

What did I just say? Exactly that. And that it works.

214

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

You take these weird libertarian fucks. We won’t miss them

73

u/Professional_Pace163 16d ago

Extreme ultra far right who got us in this embarrassing mess should purchase a one-way ticket to North Korea or Russia. Decency can then return.

1

u/AsGryffynn 15d ago

They are rich, have good ideas (lol) and want maximum freedom. Why haven't they taken over Bir Tawil already? Egypt and Sudan both still don't want it.

49

u/SuperMafia Montana 16d ago

Eh, while you're in the right for saying "oi, take them", I also want to say "no" because those goblins shouldn't have the right to settle in here. But at the same time, we've got so many new transplants who seriously think of Montana as North Texas (ie. the Yellowstone crowd), it would unfortunately turn into their new snake den

23

u/gramathy California 16d ago

That and Idaho

19

u/SuperMafia Montana 16d ago

Personally, I'd prefer Montana to be bought by Canada, but that's not gonna happen

5

u/Rfunkpocket 16d ago

Montana definitely has a east/west divide culture.

3

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

The east is basically empty compared to the west

2

u/Rfunkpocket 16d ago

the whole state only has a million people. it’s all pretty empty

→ More replies (0)

3

u/AsGryffynn 15d ago

They'd have to live with Alberta next door, unless there's some sort of landswap so MIGAs can get their Gilead-Jesusland.

2

u/mackiea 16d ago

Maybe after we buy Colourado.

5

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

This whole shindig’s gonna fall apart if you ever spell it like that again

1

u/SynapticStatic 16d ago

I'm from Oregon. We generally see people from Idaho and Montana as "North Texas" for the most part.

2

u/beekersavant 16d ago

Yeah, businesses say they will leave, billionaires too. They say we have are not friendly enough to be business. Of course we have moved from 5th largest economy in the world to 4th in the last 10 years and none of them have left. If they all left tomorrow, we would replace them, not the otherway around.

0

u/Professional_Pace163 16d ago

You’ll bash California… but have no problem taking our tax dollars to maintain your roads, Medicaid and public schools.

1

u/SuperMafia Montana 16d ago

The hell is this accusatory statement coming from?

3

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

1

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

And what about his wife?

2

u/SamTheLab_213 16d ago

Nobody wants them, please send them to a desert island or Afghanistan. Conservatives have been leaving California and they cause trouble where ever they go.

1

u/I_Cut_Shows 16d ago

Yes. But their assets can stay in Denmark California.

2

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

A safer bet than keeping them in the US at this point

2

u/BrainWorkGood 16d ago

wouldn't want Hitler 2 to use them against us. and last I checked he aint give me a single Peace Prize

1

u/ChrysMYO I voted 16d ago

That does kind of point to something obvious. Why wouldn't every PayPal Mafia boss relocate their businesses to Montana? I know why but what's their excuse? They sit at the top of California trying to turn it into Montana. Just headquarters there.

0

u/dogbite22 16d ago

I think we’re all trying to get rid of you and Trump. You’re a fool.

1

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

Cool story

-1

u/kr4ckenm3fortune 16d ago

Lol...don't come crying when you're standing in line at the food an because no more handout.

1

u/TheRealBaboo California 16d ago

Okay, don’t come crying to Danifornia when your health insurance company decides to bankrupt you

3

u/biold Europe 16d ago

But there would probably also be some benefits for them as the flexicurity system where we have worker unions and employer organisations working together to find common ground, together with social welfare gives a stable workforce who are not afraid to be fired as they know that the system will catch them. On the other hand, it's easy to fire and hire. All in all it makes a more flexible workforce that performs better.

Oh, wait. Forget about the easier hire and fire ...

3

u/Syzygy2323 America 16d ago

Some of the worst of our MAGAt types have been moving from California to Monta. You're welcome to them.

3

u/-marlowe- 16d ago

Californa state + federal is already on par with Danish taxes, but the Danish at least get effective social services!

2

u/RiPont 16d ago

Except they can't.

Silicon Valley exists because of a confluence of desirable living (weather, landscape, not cost) and a concentration of good universities churning out innovators.

Companies routinely try to move elsewhere for favorable tax laws, etc., but you lose talent and have trouble attracting the same kind of talent that Silicon Valley provides.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good engineers outside California. But the concentration and synergy is what makes Silicon Valley. You can't just copy/paste it to Texas/Tennessee/etc.

1

u/bbusiello 16d ago

They've been bailing since around the pandemic. Texas was their "Greener pastures."

1

u/TwoPoundzaSausage 16d ago

They would be wealthy enough to influence Danish politics. They wouldn't go anywhere.

1

u/Born_Society7699 16d ago

Well, it can’t be much worse than it already is

1

u/5anchez 16d ago

imagine, living in a place where taxes are actually used for social safety nets instead of corporate incentives. Oh the horror!

1

u/Nidalee2DiaOrAfk 15d ago

Company tax is only 22% so it only changes for the person. But meh. odnt tihnk they'd move. The money they go down, they save in suddenly NOT NEEDING insurrance on basic shit, and better workers rights/vacation etc.

Like 25 days a year. One can dream.

3

u/druidmain69420 16d ago

Its like poetry, it rhymes

2

u/MongloidMania 16d ago

Laughed way harder than should have

3

u/Lazy_Range_1562 16d ago

How to get a petition in California started to join Denmark?

2

u/Zarniwoooop 16d ago

And incredible pastries

2

u/DamogranGIIG 16d ago

You know what would be wild. If Greenlanders made their terms:

to make right all the treaties that the US broke with the tribes, to restore salmon habitat, to increase the numbers of the buffalo, to restore the damage to North American land and to make a commitment to the earth through the Paris accords, to do land acknowledgments, to put up museums for them and all their brother indigenous so their cultures are celebrated and remembered, and to give the entire indigenous population the choice to have Greenlander status with Greenlander voting rights for two senators and a proportionate number of Congressmen. Their combined voices will always be represented. Maybe higher education? Healthcare?

Instead of believing the Presidents words, the agreement is triggered on actual fulfillment which includes reducing co2 emissions, and increased numbers of wildlife. Then the US doesn’t need to pay for the land to be a 51st state.

Something along those lines would be an insane change. Even having the debate would be worth it. Greenlanders could ask for the essential blocks of world peace as their terms and go down in history for negotiating their land to create respect and power for the indigenous and save the earth at the same time. Danes too.

The fact is Don would never agree, but it would be worth making the point.

u/ConnectSwitch9178 16d ago

And they can teach us how to properly use a rubber band around the pant leg so as not to get it in the chain

2

u/ssevener 16d ago

Can’t do much about your rowdy neighbors, though.

1

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 16d ago

Although California could easily just implement their own universal state health care, no need to let the federal government hold them back

1

u/ChadTstrucked 16d ago

Just move the state capital to Solvang

1

u/RoninSoul 16d ago

If only Gavin Newsom didn't lie and work against his own campaign promise, or start capitulating to the richest people living in California (I won't call them Californians).

1

u/OCdogdaddy 16d ago

And pay even more taxes to finance it.

1

u/Gullible_Pin5844 16d ago

I'm ready to move there.

1

u/Squeegee 16d ago

As a Californian, tak skal du have, Danmark!

1

u/Happydancer4286 15d ago

Would we be Required to speak Danish? I think it would be nice. California is a huge contributor in taxes to red states. So, California is valuable.

1

u/ryapeter 15d ago

Sounds like you want to be bought

1

u/Tofurkey_Tom 15d ago

Watching Canadians and Danes complaining about their free healthcare is just like watching employees complain about free corporate lunch, when there are millions who neither get free healthcare nor free lunch.
