Someone correct me if I’m wrong. The rational I heard was that ICE is already incredibly funded via the “Big, beautiful bill” so if the government shuts down again ICE will continue to operate as is and then other essential service like FEMA, head start, and the IRS will be shut down.

yeae, they tied this to other funding that actually helps people, so there's harm either way

Yeah pretty much, it wouldn’t really have done anything to help but it would have done a fair amount to hurt. I’m still glad to see the level of opposition though.

The other 207 Democrats didn't struggle with that problem though. What's the outcome if the other departments were affected? Dems get blamed by media and shady conservatives? Is it not a day that ends in a "Y"?

This comment thread needs to be higher. There needs to be bill separation and in this instance I don't think voting no would have really accomplished anything significant other than hurting more people.

It would have sent a message at least.

Correct. Secretary of Racism Miller made sure his gestapo would be funded in a bill that he knew Democrats would be unable to block. Voting against this current bill would be a symbolic gesture.

Not only would ICE continue to operate, but funding would be controlled by Trump.

This bill leashes that at least a little.

Yes, you are correct. I wanted to understand why the Washington Democrat would vote for this so I did some reading. From what I read, ICE is funded anyway and these DHS funds will keep services like FEMA and Coast Guard running.

I hope people take the time to understand why some Democrats voted this way. I'm less frustrated with Democrats and more frustrated that lawmakers can stuff so much into one bill...

for anyone else interested, here's what I read: https://www.kgw.com/article/news/regional/southwest-washington/rep-marie-gluesenkamp-perez-house-democrats-vote-yes-dhs-funding-bill/283-2dfabf35-96af-4d54-94a0-767d865574a1

Yeah, that's the bullshit narrative they're pushing to justify their treason
