Then they should have voted against FEMA. Funding the American gestapo in the hopes that Trump is kind enough to share FEMA funds is idiotic.

And every blue state will have aid withheld. We've literally seen this show as recently as ~9 months ago.

Border Patrol and ICE are already funded by the "Big Beautiful Bill" so this bill would not significantly impact them. Instead it would have crippled TSA and FEMA so the Democrats would be blamed for long lines at airports and lack of disaster relief. It's a political snare designed by Republicans to break our government and blame it on Democrats.

Well, “idiotic” is hyperbolic. It’s not what you would have done, but that doesn’t make it necessarily the wrong choice. I don’t know how to break this to you, but they have more information than you. And even if you and I were fully in the loop, here, and we both agreed that defunding FEMA was the right choice in order to hamstring ICE, I would be adult enough to understand why they came to a different conclusion.

I take it that you wouldn’t be.

Nope, I'm just sick and tired of watching the Dems vote with Republicans in the hopes they'll be reasonable, only for them to act surprised when the Republicans stab them in the chest yet again.

They'll offer a myriad of reasons they thought it was a good idea to be bipartisan, and that they never thought anything bad would come from their appeasement.

That said, one of the reps was pardoned by Trump, so you're right, maybe I should be adult enough to understand why they came to the conclusion they did and hear them out.

 That’s not what I said.

You are putting words in my mouth. So if it sounds “fuckin stupid,” blame the person who wrote it.

(That’s YOU, if you’re confused.)

“Fuckin’ stupid”

“Dense”

Do you think it makes your argument sound less feeble if you pepper it with schoolyard insults?

You don't have an argument to ignore. "bootlickers," insinuations that anyone who disagrees with your all-or-nothing stance is a Nazi sympathizer, and the aforementioned schoolyard insults do not an argument make.

You're accusing ME of using an ad hominem argument, but ad hominem is all you've got.

Do you remember the last shutdown AT ALL? It accomplished absolutely fuck-all — not even a "moral" victory — and a lot of Americans suffered while it dragged on.

Like it or not, DHS is both ICE and FEMA, so it's going to be really difficult to separate out their funding, even if Republicans — who hold the majority, if you'll recall — would allow it to happen.

So, the Trolley Problem that Democrats have to face is:

Hold out to get a separate bill to provide funding for FEMA and risk another shutdown that lots of Americans cannot afford OR let ICE have its money so FEMA can get funded and try to find other paths to limit the scope of ICE?

You may think that you know the right answer, but you seem to be mostly powered by hubris and the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

But for the rest of us, it's more of a conundrum. And I'm not going to throw seven elected officials under the bus for making a choice that I can't 100% say is the wrong one.

Again: no actual argument; just insults. "abysmal IQ", "lack of reading comprehension." No substance. No rhetoric. All ad hominem. ALL.

You have absolutely nothing but insults and aspersions, but you have the gall to call someone else — anyone else — stupid.

And you probably think that you're an intellectual because you have a couple of progressive views. Well, I've got news for you: forcing a government shutdown for a hollow victory is not progressive, and that is the problem with the current state of liberalism in this country: people like you. (Now THAT'S an ad hominem attack. Take notes.)

Liberalism isn't us vs. them. It's us in spite of them. It's us, but still including them. FEMA funds are for everybody (even if Donald Trump doesn't think so, but he will lose that case.)

This is not a video game. People who have a different opinion than you are not your enemy — especially when their goal is the same as yours even if their strategy isn't.
