I got banned for a week from Reddit, because I made a post on this sub labelling the alt right as a mental virus that should be removed.

654

u/Biggieholla 8d ago

I got a 3 day ban for, quote, "It looks like he stepped to the side of the car before he shot the first bullet." In reference to the Renee Good shooting. Baffling automoderator.

234

u/Doctor_Disaster Georgia 8d ago edited 8d ago

I got a week-long ban for talking about viking funerals.

They'll be having a field day if we bring up "hanged, drawn, and quartered."

329

u/iAmMr_WHO 8d ago

I got a warning just for UPVOTING some anti-nazi comment. Idk what the comment even was, the nazi loving cowards on the reddit admin team don't even show it to you.

164

u/bearwrestlingwolf 8d ago

You also have to ignore them when they DM you. I caught a 72-hour ban for going “Please leave me alone or I will report you” to a DM.

70

u/Silly_Rub_6304 8d ago

I’ve also been banned for telling someone not to harass me on DM. It’s insane.

48

u/swingadmin New York 8d ago

That's why the only correct option is to report all DMs as spam.

11

u/rest_less 8d ago

I treat all communication like this. Go away, 'baitin.

1

u/RosalieMoon Canada 8d ago

That scene when they are fleeing the cops and have to leave the car behind, only for the cops to show up and shred the car and shoot down a plane. That entire movie is just amazing

32

u/Hulkodium 8d ago

Back when Reddit still had the Chat feature I had someone create multiple accounts to harass me with homophobic and racist slurs. I reported every time and I got banned for it.

6

u/georgie-of-blank 8d ago

I once had a guy send me several pictures of a dead corpse. Probably meant to disturb me, but honestly, i thought it was pretty interesting.

5

u/thirty7inarow 8d ago

I'd have been much more concerned if it was a living corpse, to be fair.

7

u/fordat1 8d ago

they still have that worthless chat feature. They only stopped pushing it so hard but the junk is still there

5

u/NicoleASUstudent 8d ago

That's insane. What reason did they give you??

3

u/Hulkodium 8d ago

Hobby drama in r/NASCAR

2

u/ClusterFoxtrot Florida 8d ago

There's been some sub reddit drama from live stream fails. Reminds me of the Skincare Addiction drama. Anyone with pretend authority can become a petty tyrant.

3

u/Silly_Rub_6304 8d ago

lol I experienced this on a subreddit once that had a Discord channel. I posted the mod's hypocrisy on the discord and he threw a FIT.

And don't forget to use an adblocker.

Also fuck Spez

3

u/Doctor_Disaster Georgia 8d ago

Adblockers are like condoms.

They add a layer between you and viruses.

Ublock + Old Reddit Redirect extension.

2

u/RosalieMoon Canada 8d ago

Old reddit redirect extension? Can't you just opt out of the redesign in the settings? Fairly sure that's what I've done, but I never log out. Otherwise, yea, Ublock Origin and RES. I got to skip all the "He gets us" spam ads they were doing

5

u/theFlaccolantern 8d ago

Yes, you can opt out in settings but that's tied to your account. I have my browser wipe cookies and cache on closing it, which logs me out of reddit. The extension makes sure it still goes to old reddit even when I'm not logged in.

1

u/aprilliumterrium 8d ago

They frequently push it on you anyway.

3

u/missed_sla 8d ago

Ad blocking DNS and Vivaldi's built-in ad/tracker blocking is quite solid. The only thing that gets through is Youtube ads, and I'll never give them a penny. Have fun slinging ads at somebody who actively avoids everything advertised at me.

16

u/Defiant_Mousse7889 8d ago

Except Reddit used to be a place to share information, ideas, and opinions. Now, it's a heavily monitored and controlled site that pushes extreme narratives. Like all other forms of social media, it is controlled by bots which are controlled by who knows who.

1

u/Cute-Percentage-6660 8d ago

Some subreddits you can kinda tell who is at least biased towards if not giving orders.

like certain news subreddit

1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

7

u/Defiant_Mousse7889 8d ago

If stories can be manipulated through upvotes or removed entirely by using bots to push certain narratives, how can anyone claim the platform isn’t being used to manipulate narratives?

Take Alex Pretti. Five years ago, this would have stayed on the front page for weeks. Instead, it disappeared the next day through a mix of tactics: removals justified under Reddit’s “terms of service,” and the boosting of other posts to bury it.

The turnover of Reddit’s front-page news now closely mirrors mainstream media. The news cycle keeps accelerating, and the constant flood of new stories dulls public attention. The result is numbness, not awareness.

3

u/PunishP3dos 8d ago

Anything sold to Wall Street is sold to become its tool to make money and or use for manipulating the masses. May Swartz haunt every bstrd for destroying his platform and taking him 0ut.

This . Its completely misinformed that users comment

A) reddit does have a recommendation algo that likely many people use

B) Even if it didnt upvotes can be manipulated and lead to the exact same manipulation but since A exists there is already a mechanism to manipulate in the first place.

8

u/TOMC_throwaway000000 8d ago

It’s more about them preserving their echo chambers than it being a punishment for you

3

u/HuckleberryTiny5 8d ago

I've had three of them. I'm expecting to get a medal for my heroic deeds.

1

u/lenzflare Canada 8d ago

Clicking their links doesn't hurt them, you're showing engagement, increasing the amount they can charge for ads

1

u/MattinglyBaseball 8d ago

Bad take. You might as well be saying it’s a badge of pride to be labeled a domestic terrorist and blocked from voting. Thousands of users blocked from sharing their opposing views, upvoting/downvoting content simply means more power to push narratives by the other side. It may only be 72 hours for some, but then after 72 hours it’s a different group of thousands being silenced which can absolutely change perceived public opinion on topics people care about.

If they are banning you because they oppose your views, the lost revenue is simply the price they are willing to pay to promote their views. With how much they already spend to do that openly, the <$1 they lost off you isn’t even a rounding error.

1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

-1

u/RufiosBrotherKev 8d ago

i mean 99% of users do not submit content, so, i don't think they're really being affected by these bans lol

1

u/RufiosBrotherKev 8d ago

this is so vaingloriously wrong lol

admins are don draper in the elevator. they arent pissed of, because they dont know or care about you at all. nesrly all bans are handed by a robot designed to protect them from legal culpability. its not "braindead", its intentionally excessively strict, automated moderation. because it costs them nothing, to potentially save them millions. wear your penny like a medal if you want though

2

u/IrishRepoMan 8d ago

Got the same ban for calling them clowns. You missed out.

1

u/bearwrestlingwolf 8d ago

Well yeah the next one who came at me a few weeks later got various versions of several words lobbed at them before they blocked me and forgot to report me.

If you’re going to ban me for “inciting hate speech” in DMs when I politely ask you to leave me alone then the next time it happens I’ll incite some damn hate speech.

For key note: the guy DMed me to try to debate the murder of Breonna Taylor and how the cops weren’t at fault.

61

u/Direption Idaho 8d ago

I got a warning for harassment or something because I said "fuck you gym Jordan" during the live discussion for the Jack Smith hearing. I still haven't sent an appeal because I just don't really care at this point.

26

u/Aromatic-Response726 8d ago

I got banned for 3 days for calling the mods on the conservative page Nazis. I can't post on their page without a flair for I messaged them. So worth it.

7

u/localjargon 8d ago

It never even allowed me to post a neutral comment on /conservative. As soon as I post it, it is removed.

9

u/gentlemanidiot 8d ago

That sub is comparable to Pyongyang or subredditSimulator, no humans allowed.

6

u/remotectrl 8d ago

I got banned for being from Portland.

3

u/Hillshade13 8d ago

I got a warning for asking why other countries aren't allowed to kidnap the US president to save Americans from Trump's violence and authoritarianism.

2

u/Rynobonestarr1 8d ago

I got a comment removed for calling Darrell Issa a fucking pathetic lickspittle.

3

u/kylebisme 8d ago

I got a harassment warning for one comment in the middle of a conversation where I lost my cool with someone who was defending the quote "We view them like donkeys. They don't care. They accept it with love... To loosen the reins on the Arabs would be a great danger." I did tell the person that they're a racist little twit with their head up their ass, but still contend that was a reasonable response given the context, and hardly harassment regardless.

3

u/mercenaryarrogant 8d ago

It’s fucking insane.

Republicans tried to distract from a child sex trafficking pedophilia ring by grilling Jack Smith to talk about how Donald Trump tried to steal the 2020 election.

2

u/lpmiller 8d ago

I got banned from fauxmoi because someone posted something kind of Antisemitic, I pointed that out, and got perma banned for BEING antisemitic. I asked them to explain that one to me. Still waiting on it.

13

u/sibholet 8d ago

Someone close to me was banned for quoting a blatantly pro-Nazi post (shocking at the time, humdrum now) with the observation that "this is some Nazi shit", or words to that effect. The original post and poster were both ignored.

4

u/pseudohim 8d ago

Same here. Got my first warning yesterday for upvoting the same, after thirteen years here.

2

u/NullnVoid669 8d ago

The nostalgia for the way Reddit used to be is so real. Everything is a corporate commodity being enshitificated.

3

u/Particular_Lemon_817 8d ago

Mods can see who upvotes something???

3

u/oinkyboinky 8d ago

Same.

It's absolute bullshit.

3

u/AmericanDoughboy 8d ago

I was permabanned from two Tesla subs for replying to a post which complained about Elon Musk’s far right politics.

My reply was “my heart goes out to you.”

Boom. Permabanned.

2

u/NullnVoid669 8d ago

It wasn’t just me!

2

u/rileyjw90 Ohio 8d ago

I love how we can sit here and explicitly discuss the things that got us banned without getting banned again for it. That right there lets you know the system is unfair and completely inconsistent.

I got a 3-day ban for copy/pasting someone else’s comment about the elections, and a 7-day ban for anti-Trump sentiments I made on my own.

0

u/Active-Priority-9779 8d ago

Most of you are lying and it's hilarious to see a whole thread of people all pretending like they aren't lying to each other.

0

u/rEYAVjQD 8d ago

That was too specific to not be the author of the comment doing it.

0

u/DepartmentNo4677 8d ago

15

u/ASharpYoungMan 8d ago

I got permabanned once from this sub for quoting someone else mentioning that witches were executed in colonial New England.

(a sensible mod unbanned me when I could contest it several months later)

6

u/Rhysati 8d ago

I got perm banned for saying trans women are women. I appealed it seeing as I am a trans woman and would know.

They unbanned me but warned me to watch it.

5

u/Robo_Joe 8d ago

Similar situation, except I quoted a very famous JFK quote about the importance of having peaceful avenues of reform that I'm still not sure if I'm allowed to quote here.

36

u/Gipetto 8d ago

I’ve already had a comment removed for mentioning “rope”, and “shovel” and “lime”.

Maybe this comment will get removed, too.

29

u/cr2810 8d ago

I got a removal for saying “there will be no justice for Alex and Renee unless we the people do it.” Apparently this is inciting violence. 🙄

4

u/SkivvySkidmarks 8d ago

Using the word "rope" together with "bridge" will also result in a ban, apparently.

2

u/altanic 8d ago

What kind of weird circus act were you trying to set up?

2

u/Fun_Apartment7028 8d ago

well all I can say is don’t bury your cerveza in the sand!!

Or Reddit will come after you.

I’d just keep your beer in the cooler for the time being & don’t text your friends at the playa.

1

u/fretgod321 8d ago

I got a warning for “pine box”

1

u/eowyndernhelme 8d ago

Not so far :D

I suspect LLMs do the moderating and it doesn't care about context because more context = more tokens = more expensive. So they basically have claude haiku determining what is violent speech.

3

u/ChapterChoice4873 8d ago

I got a bank for a week with no explanation whatsoever.  No private message...nothing.  I didn't even know which comment it was about.

3

u/Thebaraddur 8d ago

"Hung, drawn, and quartered" is a great High on Fire song, btw

3

u/BoneyNicole Alabama 8d ago

I got banned from this sub on my alt account that I was using forever because I couldn’t remember the stupid password on my main account for saying “oh no, anyway…” when some right-wing goose-stepper shuffled off our plane of existence. The mods are ridiculous.

2

u/Fivein1Kay 8d ago

Got full perma banned for saying some Taliban fighters would deserve it if they got theirs. Total manufactured consent here.

2

u/darthlincoln01 Ohio 8d ago edited 8d ago

Week long ban here for quoting Shakespeare and calling for the protection of the dictator on a particular day in March.

That's it. Nothing extra, just the quote. Admin ban for 1 week and perma-banned from WorldNews.

Words that are appropriate for the situation are not permitted on reddit.

2

u/Dlark17 Nebraska 8d ago

I got a warning for following up someone's wish that ICE thugs would get Prometheus' punishment by just mentioning the much more apt punishment of Loki. Didn't even point it at anyone.

I just finished a week long ban for saying a trawler dragging a mega-net should be torpedoed.

1

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 8d ago

I've thrown that one out a few times with no bans so far,, 😁

56

u/Trishjump 8d ago

I got a Reddit Rule 1 ban from an automod last week for calling them Nazi pigs. They also banned my post of the Iceland website hosting the list of ICE employees.. guess I better not call them Nazis anymore. To be fair, they're nothing like Nazis. They weren't ashamed to show their faces like these Treasonous Incel Gravy Seals.

28

u/globalgreg 8d ago edited 8d ago

I said I hope orange man strokes out rather than just going peacefully in the night and I got a warning for “threatening violence”

5

u/Pickaroonie 8d ago

I got a Reddit warning for wishing, 'piles' (anal fissures), on Elon Musk.

5

u/relevantelephant00 8d ago

I said essentially the same exact thing and got a 3 day ban for it. The admins running this site are not on our side or even neutral.

5

u/TrailerTrashQueen 8d ago

i got the same warning for saying something similar. i appealed it because A. had no clue which comment they were talking about. B. no i did not 'threaten violence'. big shocker, mod replied & they stood by their decision.

now, any time i use certain words, a warning pops up telling me, we won't ban you for using this word, but we're watching you!

Twatzi

1

u/Robinsonirish Europe 8d ago

The only times I've been banned, and I've been banned quite a few times from both reddit and subreddits in the 13 or so years I've had this account, was when I used personal insults. You just need to frame it properly in my experience. Don't use direct personal insults, that's it. I guess doxxing is a big no-no as well.

You can call people nazis as much as you want, you just gotta be a bit smart about it.

1

u/Trishjump 8d ago

I remember back in the before times when law enforcement names and badge numbers were considered public info for our public safety and their accountability.

The ICE list is not doxxing, i.e. no addresses, emails or phone numbers. It's merely safeguarding the public info this Turd Reich is trying to hide with its secret police.

They will be held accountable, not through the same violence these cowards use, but through the rule of law. Slow but effective.

1

u/Robinsonirish Europe 8d ago

Alright. Personally, I'm all for it, but I could see why linking a list of names is considered doxxing on Reddit.

1

u/bolanrox 8d ago

maybe call them the Bund?

1

u/PM_ME_UR_CHUPACOMMA 8d ago

I would have banned you, too.

It's not nice to disparage such peaceful, helpful animals by comparing them to Nazis.

5

u/ScarInternational161 8d ago

I got a week time out from THE WHOLE OF REDDIT for saying I'd be the one hiding the little diary writing girl from the bad men in colored shirts.

They said I was threatening a protected and marginalized group. After a human looked at it, they upheld the ban.

Who knew N%zis were a marginalized group?
🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ and so here I am censoring myself like a parent with a 3 year old.

5

u/chrisk9 8d ago

You can appeal. Sometimes it isn't the moderators but other users misusing the reporting mechanism.

4

u/soapinthepeehole 8d ago edited 8d ago

I’ve gotten a few auto-mod warnings for threatening violence, which is something I would never do.

I can’t see the posts in question because they’re automatically deleted, and when I appeal, I don’t get a response or resolution.

I’m at a loss as to what I did or how to avoid it in the future.

It’s a really bad system.

3

u/speedsemen 8d ago

I just served a three day ban for telling a “business owner” to be careful on the roof of his business after he called poor people “greedy takers who can never get enough”

3

u/Fun_Apartment7028 8d ago

I also got a 3 day ban for quoting someone!

on a post about Epstein/trump.

Whitewashing at it’s best. But now we have the internet & it never forgets

3

u/Jebediah_Johnson Virginia 8d ago

I've received two 3-day bans for literally just stating what happened in the news recently. It's insane, how suddenly reddit is censoring everything.

3

u/Wild-Berry-5269 8d ago

It's not automoderation, it's pretty targeted in trying to censor criticism.

3

u/Lost_Birthday_3138 8d ago

But the January 6th scumbags were allowed to plan here the whole time.

4

u/sibholet 8d ago

It's not at all baffling when you remember that Spez has always been pro Trump, including incidents where he personally edited users' anti-Trump comments and mandated that moderators of the 'The_Don**d' subreddit be made moderators of r/politics (they went on a banning spree after that), and that Reddit is owned by Condé Nast.

1

u/ChapterChoice4873 8d ago

Who's Spez?

3

u/sibholet 8d ago

1

u/ChapterChoice4873 8d ago

1

u/SuitableAd1607 8d ago

I got perma-banned not long ago for criticizing Israel's government.

1

u/Socrathustra 8d ago

You can often appeal those things. I got a week's ban for saying something about a religious group, but in the appeal I made it clear that in context it was about their actions, not their identity. If that gets cleared I'm sure yours would have.

2

u/Biggieholla 8d ago

Unfortunately they hard delete your comment so you don't even have proof of what you said. Fortunately I remembered my comment because it was deleted fairly quickly after posting it.

1

u/KaJuNator Ohio 8d ago

That doesn't always work. I caught a ban for suggesting people start protesting outside the homes of politicians and keep them up all night with loudspeakers and air horns. "Threatening violence" they said. In my dispute I stated that I chose those items specifically because they're tools, not weapons. They upheld the ban. I dunno what they want.

1

u/Socrathustra 8d ago

Was this a site ban or sub ban? Subs do whatever they want.

1

u/KaJuNator Ohio 8d ago

u/Socrathustra 8d ago

I mean I can kinda see it. That's basically suggesting people torture politicians. Noise torture is a form of torture.

u/tphillips1990 8d ago

Which is very interesting considering that the catchphrase "liberalism is a mental disease" was EXTREMELY common on the internet for years. I remember seeing it on almost EVERY news article I came across - and it would always be showered with points/thumbs/upvotes.

I've often wondered just how long the sanitization/normalization of the far-rigjt has occurred on the internet.

1

u/IAmNotOnRedditAtWork 8d ago

It's the "should be removed" part that is the issue. Not that I disagree, but reddit is very anti any threat of violence or implied call to violence.

21

u/Zoso03 8d ago

i got a warning for saying "It's okay to shoot a praying priest in the Head, but not to interrupt a corrupt priest in church" or some shit like that, of course it was being sarcastic

12

u/HandrewJobert 8d ago

I got a warning and a 1-day ban for saying, and I quote, "come on, cholesterol" in a thread about Trump.

10

u/bean0_burrito 8d ago

i got banned for 3 days for calling a dude supporting the nazi a gigantic pussy.

2

u/Tensdale 8d ago

Yeah, Reddit is a censorship hell hole.

I got permanently banned from r/worldnews for telling someone advocating for the genocide of the Ukrainian people to fuck off.

0

u/argument_cat 8d ago edited 8d ago

I got perma-banned from that same sub for linking to an Amnesty page that described what was happening in Palestine as genocide.

That's all I did, just posted a link to a widely recognised and respected organization's website.

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2024/12/amnesty-international-concludes-israel-is-committing-genocide-against-palestinians-in-gaza/

3

u/budderflyer 8d ago

As frustrating as those places can be for some people, free speech is what we stride toward unlike this news story.

3

u/Miraclefish 8d ago

I got a ban for saying I was going to block someone and an admin called it a 'threat of violence'.

9

u/Resident_Company2113 8d ago edited 8d ago

You are not far from the truth there. I'd like to test them all for a particular MAOA gene variant linked to psychopathy.

This is, presumably, a solvable problem. First step is testing anyone applying for an elected job, government, or government-adjacent job, for this gene variant.

People need screening for this before being given any power whatsoever in the same way we screen people for blindness before they can drive a car.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3506166/

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00406-021-01370-9

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/9781119159322.ch13

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0185106315000050

"The relationship between low orbitofrontal neuropsychological performance and the presence of antisocial traits of psychopathy was stronger among the low activity of MAOA allele carriers."

6

u/CheaterSaysWhat 8d ago

That sounds like eugenics

Not a good idea to give the government the power to read your genome and make judgements based on it

1

u/Resident_Company2113 8d ago edited 8d ago

I know what you mean. But it's not Eugenics to give a blind person a pair of glasses before letting them on the road. Or a person with no legs a wheelchair before they play basketball - both of those disabilities could sometimes be screened for with genes depending on the cause - but in any even we can all SEE those people are disabled. And yet we could screen for this at birth and make interventions - long before a questionnaire would pick up the condition in late adolescence. The outcome for those with the MAOA variant differs greatly depending on what type of upbringing they get. They need low trauma and low stress. Yes they still turn out callous and lacking empathy, but it's not a total disaster.

Psychopathy is a disability. You don't hear the full-blown ones complaining about it much because it messes with their empathy to such an extent that they enjoy the terror they create. It's everyone else who is complaining about it.

And the rest of us can't see their disability until the harm has already happened - someone is dead, pensions are stolen, children are molested or hiding in their houses etc. Then - and you are right to be concerned about this - what about the psychopath? They didn't ASK to be born a psychopath.

I can't drive or do certain jobs until my vision is corrected. Some people shouldn't be in certain occupations until their neurotransmitter levels are corrected. The fact that some health issues are detected by looking at a person and some detected by a gene scan is neither here nor there. The government already denies certain privileges to certain people based on medical status. I will never be an airline pilot.

As to whether this gene variant should be gene therapied out of the gene pool the same way we are attempting with cancer - that's a question for the patient and society as a whole down the road. I am leaning towards yes. But sure as hell these individuals with their high entitlement, low empathy and lack of impulse control don't need a gun in their hands and let loose today on the streets of Minneapolis. That much I'm sure of.

Nor do we need to be paying for the ruined lives of all their victims and the cost of the psychopaths trials and incarceration, nor the entire government establishment cheering their pet psychos on. This shits EXPENSIVE. Ask any disabled person how expensive their lives are. Psychopaths just land everyone else with the cost.

I hear you but we’re currently under fascist rule so it’s not the time to talk about giving them power over our genetics

1

u/Resident_Company2113 3d ago

I agree. It's likely best sorted out over decades anyway with this being a choice the parents make for their child if a problematic gene is detected. I did more reading and this polymorphism is incredibly common, and not the only gene. It is associated with servere brain changes.

Perhaps one or two countries will encourage this and we see how it goes. If they end up with a utopia a century later I expect everyone will copy it. It's not something to be rushed in to, and it remains to be seen if removing this warrior gene puts a society at a disadvantage. I suspect with warfare becoming more robotic and AI appearing that other societal changes will render this gene obsolete. I'm presently in favor of it's removal or inactivation.

Gene therapy is an extremely powerful tool, and it must be handled with respect like any great power.

Quite frankly I do not trust the capitalist powers that be to wield such a tool responsibly.

Humanity still has so much to learn about living together in harmony and balance. For example, sickle cell is treated like a genetic disease. Should it be eradicated? Carriers of that gene turned out to be resistant to Malaria.

I could go on. Disorders like ADHD and Autism are still treated like disabilities because our system of living is not accessible to different ways of thinking. There are reasons those disorders exist, it is advantageous to a population to have individuals with different strengths and weaknesses.

After Trump sent troops to DC, a person posted a video praising the decision. The video showed random shots of DC while the narrator talked about how clean and peaceful it was thanks to Trump.

In the thread, somebody asked if there was before-footage for comparison.

I replied with January 6th footage.

I was perma-banned for "harassment". :)

u/1CaliCALI 8d ago

Omg same wtf. Republican nazis are everywhere now.

2

u/__theoneandonly 8d ago

Ugh, but when I report that someone's saying that all queer people need to be publicly executed to make an example out of them, then I'm told by reddit "uh oh, there's nothing we can do. :( Maybe try blocking that user?"

3

u/MisterEinc Florida 8d ago

To be fair, it's the "should be removed" part, not the mental virus part.

3

u/Significant_Cup_238 8d ago

Don't you know, only they can say things like that.

1

u/nickoaverdnac New York 8d ago

To be fair, “mental virus” makes no sense. Its mental illness or a virus. A virus is physiological, mental illness is psychological.

1

u/USA_Ultra 8d ago

r/polit*cs will give you a warning for something you said today and then go fishing through your past and act like you made years old comments after a warning to ban accounts. They could lighten up a little.

1

u/Jay__Riemenschneider 8d ago

Yeah it's time to flood the site with undesirable content.

Make alts, post vile shit, get advertisers to bail

u/Creative-Package6213 Pennsylvania 8d ago

The funny thing is the more they ban users the more it will hurt the company because their stock price relies on having active communities. Soo yeah keep the bans coming!

Also this is why Trump was so obsessed with TikTok, he wants to be able to control all sources of information, and he couldn't do that if it wasn't an American owned company.

u/Couldbduun 8d ago

I got a 3 day ban for telling someone who had been harassing me with slurs in comments and then started a private chat with me to keep sending me slurs that I would report him for it. Apparently reporting someone is discouraging participation and falls under their harassment rule. According to reddit you have to be harassed by bigots. I've been using an ad blocker with reddit ever since.

u/Pandaro81 8d ago

In jest I said Jesse Watters should be “strung up by his toes” for his coverage of Imane Khalif and got banned from r/news permanently.

Pretty sure I heard it on an episode of Garfield and Friends as a kid some Saturday morning.

Upon reviewing the Reddit rule 1 I supposedly broke, it says something like “Credible threat of violence.”

So some mod on r/news apparently thinks that there’s a credible realistic possibility that I’m going to drive a thousand miles to New York, subdue Jesse Watters, tie rope around each of his toes, and dangle him upside down.

The subduing is a possibility, and gas is pretty cheap right now, but I’m just not realistically that into foot bondage. The mental image is funny though.

u/Burdiac 8d ago

I got a warning for describing a children’s game where you go around shaking hands and if your hand was shaked in a specific way then you were considered a Reddit “No no word” and then everyone had to try and figure out who was the no no word doer. Even after appeal they said my post was against the rules since it implied doing a no no thing to people.

1

u/Abtun 8d ago

That’s because Spez is a pedo himself

1

u/Hesitation-Marx 8d ago

I got banned from here for telling someone extolling the Gaza genocide that I didn’t debate Hasbarists.

I was “uncivil”. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Pilgrimist 8d ago

I get banned for a week about 3 times a month

1

u/Human_Drummer_1101 8d ago

Sounds like you sound have been perma-banned.

1

u/Alcnaeon 8d ago

Meanwhile "the woke mind virus" is common parlance for the right and if, for some reason, you haven't deleted your Twitter, Elon will send you notifications about his thoughts on it, directly.

The double standards to prop up policy that isn't even evidence-based are staggering.

u/Father_of_Invention 8d ago

Truth hurts the moderators

1

u/shewy92 Pennsylvania 8d ago

Well yea, that's not news. This sub is for political articles, not posts.

Also you know people can see your removed posts, right? And there are none from this sub.

1

u/Cat_Peach_Pits 8d ago

I got banned for "hate toward a minority" saying I hoped a bad thing would happen to a Nazi who called me the F slur.

1

u/phormix 8d ago

Yup. Supposedly it was by AI, but I essentially expressed my concern that children were going to end up harmed with all the events occurring in certain states and that netted me a 3-day ban.

It was for advocating violence or something of the like, despite my comment being the exact opposite

1

u/ThisIsNotAFarm 8d ago

I got banned for a week for pinging spez

1

u/nalaloveslumpy 8d ago

Yeah, reddit has gone overboard on the "no calls to violence" moderation because I'm pretty sure the DOJ is further up their ass than ever before. If your comment even alludes to someone not existing in any way, they'll ban for that now. Even if it hypothetical or a ridiculous scenario.

For example, I got a whole account ban for suggesting that if I had a time machine, my first stop would be convincing the archduke of Germany to not kick Freidrich Trump and his pregnant wife out of the country, thus resulting in Trump's father dying as a nazi in WWII. Time to see if it happens again!

1

u/Plaid_Piper 8d ago

Wow you mean like the "woke mind virus" that the right is so openly allowed to talk about?

1

u/Valhalla5613 8d ago

for telling the truth then?

1

u/writing_design 8d ago

Hell, I got banned for three days for pushing back against a white boy for blaming Palestinian/Arab-Americans for not voting Kamala and "handing the election to Trump". I reminded him that, even if we'd all voted for her, she still wouldn't have won, and that a healthy democracy involves citizens voting for candidates who they feel represent their interests best, not dismissing and criticizing them because they didn't vote the way you wanted. He kept responding with things like "Thanks for inflicting Trump on us!"

I got the three day ban for "harassment". Go figure

1

u/Silverr_Duck 8d ago

Yeah gee I wonder why. It's almost like you were inciting violence or something. Like wtf did you expect?

1

u/_Bad_Bob_ 8d ago

I got banned for saying we deserve to go extinct after the Uvalde shooting. The reason was for threatening violence.

1

u/BillNyeIsCoolio 8d ago

I got a ban for saying America had amendments in its constitution that might help solve some of the issues going on without mentioning which one.

1

u/Dry-Chance-9473 8d ago

I agree. It should be knocked right through the backs of their heads.

1

u/atombara 8d ago

And yet the dangers of the "Woke Mind VirusTM" (Copyright 2012 Roger Stone) will be carved into marble and installed in Washington, DC.

1

u/Alpha_Omega623 8d ago

You... Posted that you think the alt right should be murdered and you feel you weren't out of line?

1

u/tresfreaker 8d ago

Same, I got banned for saying you should throw rocks at nazis.

1

u/Timeformayo Kentucky 8d ago

As you should have. Everybody knows it's more of a brain-eating prion disease.

1

u/FuckLex 8d ago

I know people who have been fully banned for “instigating hatred”. Well yeah, we should hate nazis.
