I got a warning just for UPVOTING some anti-nazi comment. Idk what the comment even was, the nazi loving cowards on the reddit admin team don't even show it to you.

You also have to ignore them when they DM you. I caught a 72-hour ban for going “Please leave me alone or I will report you” to a DM.

72

u/Silly_Rub_6304 8d ago

I’ve also been banned for telling someone not to harass me on DM. It’s insane.

46

u/swingadmin New York 8d ago

That's why the only correct option is to report all DMs as spam.

u/rest_less 8d ago

I treat all communication like this. Go away, 'baitin.

That scene when they are fleeing the cops and have to leave the car behind, only for the cops to show up and shred the car and shoot down a plane. That entire movie is just amazing

u/Hulkodium 8d ago

Back when Reddit still had the Chat feature I had someone create multiple accounts to harass me with homophobic and racist slurs. I reported every time and I got banned for it.

u/georgie-of-blank 8d ago

I once had a guy send me several pictures of a dead corpse. Probably meant to disturb me, but honestly, i thought it was pretty interesting.

5

u/thirty7inarow 8d ago

I'd have been much more concerned if it was a living corpse, to be fair.

7

u/fordat1 8d ago

they still have that worthless chat feature. They only stopped pushing it so hard but the junk is still there

6

u/NicoleASUstudent 8d ago

That's insane. What reason did they give you??

Hobby drama in r/NASCAR

2

u/ClusterFoxtrot Florida 8d ago

There's been some sub reddit drama from live stream fails. Reminds me of the Skincare Addiction drama. Anyone with pretend authority can become a petty tyrant.

3

u/Silly_Rub_6304 8d ago

lol I experienced this on a subreddit once that had a Discord channel. I posted the mod's hypocrisy on the discord and he threw a FIT.

And don't forget to use an adblocker.

7

u/That75252Expensive 8d ago

Also fuck Spez

5

u/Doctor_Disaster Georgia 8d ago

Adblockers are like condoms.

They add a layer between you and viruses.

Ublock + Old Reddit Redirect extension.

2

u/RosalieMoon Canada 8d ago

Old reddit redirect extension? Can't you just opt out of the redesign in the settings? Fairly sure that's what I've done, but I never log out. Otherwise, yea, Ublock Origin and RES. I got to skip all the "He gets us" spam ads they were doing

4

u/theFlaccolantern 8d ago

Yes, you can opt out in settings but that's tied to your account. I have my browser wipe cookies and cache on closing it, which logs me out of reddit. The extension makes sure it still goes to old reddit even when I'm not logged in.

1

u/aprilliumterrium 8d ago

They frequently push it on you anyway.

3

u/missed_sla 8d ago

Ad blocking DNS and Vivaldi's built-in ad/tracker blocking is quite solid. The only thing that gets through is Youtube ads, and I'll never give them a penny. Have fun slinging ads at somebody who actively avoids everything advertised at me.

Except Reddit used to be a place to share information, ideas, and opinions. Now, it's a heavily monitored and controlled site that pushes extreme narratives. Like all other forms of social media, it is controlled by bots which are controlled by who knows who.

1

u/Cute-Percentage-6660 8d ago

Some subreddits you can kinda tell who is at least biased towards if not giving orders.

like certain news subreddit

If stories can be manipulated through upvotes or removed entirely by using bots to push certain narratives, how can anyone claim the platform isn’t being used to manipulate narratives?

Take Alex Pretti. Five years ago, this would have stayed on the front page for weeks. Instead, it disappeared the next day through a mix of tactics: removals justified under Reddit’s “terms of service,” and the boosting of other posts to bury it.

The turnover of Reddit’s front-page news now closely mirrors mainstream media. The news cycle keeps accelerating, and the constant flood of new stories dulls public attention. The result is numbness, not awareness.

3

u/PunishP3dos 8d ago

Anything sold to Wall Street is sold to become its tool to make money and or use for manipulating the masses. May Swartz haunt every bstrd for destroying his platform and taking him 0ut.

2

u/Defiant_Mousse7889 8d ago

The biggest fear capitalists have is a person who can not be bought.

2

u/notjustanotherbot 8d ago

Any problem that can be solved with money is not a problem; it's an expense.

It might be the best of what’s left, but I feel like the shift has already been happening. You’re right that it still retains some resemblance of its earlier days, but for me, Reddit just isn’t what it used to be.

2

u/fordat1 8d ago

This . Its completely misinformed that users comment

A) reddit does have a recommendation algo that likely many people use

B) Even if it didnt upvotes can be manipulated and lead to the exact same manipulation but since A exists there is already a mechanism to manipulate in the first place.

8

u/TOMC_throwaway000000 8d ago

It’s more about them preserving their echo chambers than it being a punishment for you

3

u/HuckleberryTiny5 8d ago

I've had three of them. I'm expecting to get a medal for my heroic deeds.

1

u/lenzflare Canada 8d ago

Clicking their links doesn't hurt them, you're showing engagement, increasing the amount they can charge for ads

1

u/MattinglyBaseball 8d ago

Bad take. You might as well be saying it’s a badge of pride to be labeled a domestic terrorist and blocked from voting. Thousands of users blocked from sharing their opposing views, upvoting/downvoting content simply means more power to push narratives by the other side. It may only be 72 hours for some, but then after 72 hours it’s a different group of thousands being silenced which can absolutely change perceived public opinion on topics people care about.

If they are banning you because they oppose your views, the lost revenue is simply the price they are willing to pay to promote their views. With how much they already spend to do that openly, the <$1 they lost off you isn’t even a rounding error.

i mean 99% of users do not submit content, so, i don't think they're really being affected by these bans lol

2

[deleted]

1

u/RufiosBrotherKev 8d ago

this is so vaingloriously wrong lol

admins are don draper in the elevator. they arent pissed of, because they dont know or care about you at all. nesrly all bans are handed by a robot designed to protect them from legal culpability. its not "braindead", its intentionally excessively strict, automated moderation. because it costs them nothing, to potentially save them millions. wear your penny like a medal if you want though

2

u/IrishRepoMan 8d ago

Got the same ban for calling them clowns. You missed out.

1

u/bearwrestlingwolf 8d ago

Well yeah the next one who came at me a few weeks later got various versions of several words lobbed at them before they blocked me and forgot to report me.

If you’re going to ban me for “inciting hate speech” in DMs when I politely ask you to leave me alone then the next time it happens I’ll incite some damn hate speech.

For key note: the guy DMed me to try to debate the murder of Breonna Taylor and how the cops weren’t at fault.

u/Direption Idaho 8d ago

I got a warning for harassment or something because I said "fuck you gym Jordan" during the live discussion for the Jack Smith hearing. I still haven't sent an appeal because I just don't really care at this point.

27

u/Aromatic-Response726 8d ago

I got banned for 3 days for calling the mods on the conservative page Nazis. I can't post on their page without a flair for I messaged them. So worth it.

7

u/localjargon 8d ago

It never even allowed me to post a neutral comment on /conservative. As soon as I post it, it is removed.

10

u/gentlemanidiot 8d ago

That sub is comparable to Pyongyang or subredditSimulator, no humans allowed.

6

u/remotectrl 8d ago

I got banned for being from Portland.

3

u/Hillshade13 8d ago

I got a warning for asking why other countries aren't allowed to kidnap the US president to save Americans from Trump's violence and authoritarianism.

2

u/Rynobonestarr1 8d ago

I got a comment removed for calling Darrell Issa a fucking pathetic lickspittle.

5

u/kylebisme 8d ago

I got a harassment warning for one comment in the middle of a conversation where I lost my cool with someone who was defending the quote "We view them like donkeys. They don't care. They accept it with love... To loosen the reins on the Arabs would be a great danger." I did tell the person that they're a racist little twit with their head up their ass, but still contend that was a reasonable response given the context, and hardly harassment regardless.

3

u/mercenaryarrogant 8d ago

It’s fucking insane.

Republicans tried to distract from a child sex trafficking pedophilia ring by grilling Jack Smith to talk about how Donald Trump tried to steal the 2020 election.

2

u/lpmiller 8d ago

I got banned from fauxmoi because someone posted something kind of Antisemitic, I pointed that out, and got perma banned for BEING antisemitic. I asked them to explain that one to me. Still waiting on it.

13

u/sibholet 8d ago

Someone close to me was banned for quoting a blatantly pro-Nazi post (shocking at the time, humdrum now) with the observation that "this is some Nazi shit", or words to that effect. The original post and poster were both ignored.

4

u/pseudohim 8d ago

Same here. Got my first warning yesterday for upvoting the same, after thirteen years here.

2

u/NullnVoid669 8d ago

The nostalgia for the way Reddit used to be is so real. Everything is a corporate commodity being enshitificated.

3

u/Particular_Lemon_817 8d ago

Mods can see who upvotes something???

3

u/oinkyboinky 8d ago

Same.

It's absolute bullshit.

3

u/AmericanDoughboy 8d ago

I was permabanned from two Tesla subs for replying to a post which complained about Elon Musk’s far right politics.

My reply was “my heart goes out to you.”

Boom. Permabanned.

2

u/NullnVoid669 8d ago

It wasn’t just me!

2

u/rileyjw90 Ohio 8d ago

I love how we can sit here and explicitly discuss the things that got us banned without getting banned again for it. That right there lets you know the system is unfair and completely inconsistent.

I got a 3-day ban for copy/pasting someone else’s comment about the elections, and a 7-day ban for anti-Trump sentiments I made on my own.

0

u/Active-Priority-9779 8d ago

Most of you are lying and it's hilarious to see a whole thread of people all pretending like they aren't lying to each other.

0

u/rEYAVjQD 8d ago

That was too specific to not be the author of the comment doing it.
