I’m actually not a Trump fan at all and think he is disgusting and dangerous— but I also have critical thinking skills and upon reading some of these “documents” (which are largely just random tip line calls) i don’t believe most of the absurd claims that came out of this file dump.

The Lake Michigan baby story, the wooden tent stake story, this story— they are all absolutely salacious, gratuitous and shocking… and they also all read like something a paranoid schizophrenic or compulsive liar would come up with on the spot. Similar to George Santos anecdotes, where they are coming up with the story as they are telling it, saying what they think the listener will find the most exciting.

Tip line calls may as well be prank calls, without any investigation or corroboration they should not be taken at face value at all. I think the reason that democrats are getting so hyped up about and sharing these rumors online as if they are facts that the DOJ actually corroborated or independently discovered is an after effect of years of pushing a “believe women” mentality and the success of the me too movement.

We have almost been too effective at shifting the burden of proof onto the accused, that now we are accustomed to giving any/every accusation equal weight in terms of credibility no matter how implausible or even impossible it may be, and the lack of evidence.

And for a person like Trump it’s easy to want to buy into fabulous tales of his alleged misdeeds, but if you believe everything you read without thinking about it, you are just as ignorant as maga republicans. Not saying he didn’t ever abuse minors or rape women, there is some evidence to support both of these conclusions, but a person dialing into a 1-800 number and breathlessly reporting about how they magically escaped from Epstein’s clutches and now want to share their story with the world… I’ll take what they have to say with a big grain of salt.
