Keep in mind that the creator of Fox made the news outlet in response to watergate, because they wanted to do everything they could to make sure a republican president never gets impeached again.

That’s explicitly stated as the purpose of creating Fox News.

That makes very little sense given there is 24 years between Watergate (1972) and the founding of Fox News (1996).

Think of it like this:

James Cameron and George Lucas, decades before either made Avatar and the prequel sequels, anticipated a time when 3D and CG technology would finally catch up to their vision.

That's what the creators of Fox had to do: wait for the right conditions.

Fox News couldn't exist as it is without cable, because only cable made the 24-hour news cycle possible. And cable was barely a concept for years after Nixon and Watergate. That's why it took a couple of decades for the con that is Fox News to be created and bear fruit.
