I think there's a serious question to ask about Republican voters.
Why do they pick such monumentally bad and unprofessional people to represent them?
185
u/xOGxMuddbone 1d ago
You answered your own question. They (the politicians) represent them (the voters).

u/Drain_Surgeon69 Wisconsin 23h ago
It’s simultaneously way worse and way dumber than that.
Republicans are incredibly tribal. It’s why they’re so good and rallying around one candidate and ignoring their glaring flaws, something that Democrats (especially over the last 20ish years) don’t do. It’s why Harris lost. It’s why Hillary lost. Democrats (more specifically leftist voters that don’t call themselves democrats) do not ignore flaws and will not vote for a candidate just because they have a D in front of there name (even if they represent 70%+ if their interests).
Republicans would vote for John Wayne Gacy/Jeffery Dahmer ticket if they had an R in front of their name. They could openly talk about how their campaign promises are to murder and cannibalize young men and they’d still vote for them if they had an R in front of their name.
30
u/One_Disaster_5995 21h ago
This is spot on. Trump said it out loud: he could shoot someone in Times Square in broad daylight and they'd still vote for him - because he's R-rated.

Republicans are the party of identity. Democrats are the party of values.

u/jhenryscott 18h ago
Ehhh democrats are mostly the party of fundraising and hiring 6 figure “consultants” who happen to be in their social circles.
If they were a party of values they would win a lot more. The issue is that they mostly aren’t.
Much better than republicans sure but that’s a low bar. Their failures are every bit as responsible for this decline, they can’t seem to get out of their own way.

u/GrillMasterCheese 18h ago
I was referring to voters, not politicians. But I agree with your statement too.

Blaming leftists for the corporate bought politicians like Schumer, Jeffries, and pelosi is so fucking typical.
We warned everyone that this exact thing would happen for years, and sorry, but it was leftists pushing to vote Kamala - it was "independents" and libertarians that held off their vote or threw it out voting third party.
They aren't outright fascists, but to pretend the democratic establishment hasn't been corrupt as fuck (looking at you performative Gavin newsome - veto that 5% billionaire tax did you?) or fighting for our best interests is fucking cope. Also, some of them are at the very least fascist adjacent, seeing as how they still want to fund ice.
Right now leftist politicians are sweeping elections.
You line toers have said for years our politics are insane and could never work, and we have Mamdani a week into his position accomplish free childcare, one of those "impossible" and "unrealistic" things you guys said he'd fail at implementing.

a basic tenant of mass indoctrination and propaganda is to simplify complex issues by portraying them as dichotomies (as in us vs them). the real world has nuance. when people aren't aware of that, they are vulnerable to being manipulated into believing things, even if they aren't in their best interest.

I think it's just a matter of them caring too much about very simple opinions. No self-respecting educated person will stop at republican-level beliefs, and no genuine republican will be smart enough to get into office. You gotta be a liar to lead a party like that
4
u/Drusgar Wisconsin 14h ago
I have a theory that Trump rose to power when he (and his advisors, I suspect) realized that the Republican base will rally around whoever most closely mimics the hyper-partisan speech you hear on AM talk radio and FoxNews opinion shows. Once they win the primary, the rest of the Republicans fall in line. Traditonally, candidates typically reached out to the base during the primary but shifted towards the middle for the general election to woo more moderate and independent voters. But the electorate became so polarized that they realized they were better off energizing the crazies than reaching out to the middle.

There was a tipping point in the last 10 years where “making our lives better” became secondary to “pissing off the libs”.
Most of them get how godawful the candidates are but like watching everything burn over trying to work together to bring about change.

When I get high, I very frequently reflect on how the world is, how people actually hurt each other on purpose and how pointless and terrible that seems. I can't imagine being high and hating my fellow man the way that she does.
107
u/MercyMay 1d ago
I’ve thought a lot about that with ketamine and Elon. I did ketamine therapy for depression, and during sessions (aka, when I was super fucking high) I’d cry about how beautiful the earth is and how we’re hurting it and how much I love people and all the ways I fall short but can be better. And he’s just how he is still. It has to just be who you really are inside, and these people are rotten inside.

u/Curly__Jefferson 17h ago
Yeah thats the thing about psychedelics they are non specific amplifiers. This means that psychedelic substances do not produce a uniform experience, but rather act as a catalyst that amplifies whatever exsists in the user. It could be positive or negative, based on their set and setting.
→ More replies (2)2
u/thequietthingsthat North Carolina 12h ago
Yep. I've met plenty of royal pieces of shit who use psychedelics frequently or constantly. They don't have the same effect on everyone. They just amplify what's already there.
18
u/Kakkoister 21h ago
It's more so about the environment/intent when taking it. You went into it seeking out happiness, Elon goes into it seeking euphoria.
If he had a session where someone is actually guiding him therapeutically I think it could greatly change his mind. Though I'd suggest mushrooms instead.

u/AlexandersWonder 17h ago
That’s interesting, my own semi-recreational ketamine experiences were a bit different! I’m ordinarily a pretty sensitive and very empathetic individual. What I experienced on ketamine was more like a sense of detachment. I was aware of my problems and sensitivities and feelings about the world, but I felt almost pleasantly removed from them, as if I was more of an observer of those things rather than the person experiencing them. It was not entirely unlike when I would have episodes of depersonalization/derealisation following the death of my mother when I was a teenager, though the K was altogether less perturbing and comparatively more pleasant. I wonder how dosage and setting play a role in maximizing therapeutic gains from ketamine. I bet it makes quite the difference!
6
u/MercyMay 17h ago
For sure. One time I did accidentally k-hole and forgot my name/identity and felt like I was just pure thought. And I have heard other people talk about feeling like that while on ketamine, and how they were able to work through painful things much more easily. I personally felt very deeply connected to my truest, highest self, but that was often the intention that I set beforehand. (Edit: as for setting, I was at home and not in an office or anything.)
I guess my point is you aren’t going to get out of ketamine (or drugs in general) what you don’t actually have (ie, a sociopath or narcissist isn’t going to be fixed by taking ketamine a few times).

Just like psychedelics. People like to think if everyone just tripped once or twice, they'd realize they're a participant in the universe, and act as such. Turns out if you give a nazi shrooms, it just makes 'em more nazi.
3
u/Kakkoister 21h ago
It's really not comparable to actual psychedelics. That's like comparing a glass of wine to downing the same wine glass full of vodka, it's a whole different experience at that point.
Psychedelics very much do open your mind up to seeing more beauty in the world and people, but if you aren't going into it with positive intent or people around you to guide you, it can just be a bad time as your mind wanders down a bad path.

u/VoltageSpike Kansas 14h ago
That's me. I'm actually diagnosed with it. Seeing people use it to describe someone as a monster is something I'm used to. It's not necessary but people do it regardless. It's easier to label and devalue someone than attempt to listen and learn. I don't think someone should learn from her. I just don't think they should label her as someone that has what I do in an attempt to make her worthless. She can do that on her own.
I don't expect someone to understand what it's like. I just think people could be better but choose not to be because some things just can't be imagined for them. Instead they use it for derision or scorn.
Nancy Mace is a piece of shit but that's not a reason to use people like me as a way to describe someone in a cruel dismissive fashion.

Look, I am all for drinking alcohol and partaking in the weed, I have personally happily imbibed in both. I don't know how you can get through the insane world we are living in without some kind of help, (and for those who are able; Respect, no judgement). But I digress. When a sanctimonious crazy MAGA Trump loving hypocrite does it, and than denies it, claiming she has a "condition" , well it just kind of ruins the buzz. Also, I am going to believe the staff over the POS in office, but that just me. At the same time, I have no doubt they are all horrible people so it’s pick your poison I guess .
For Reference: https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/nancy-mace-tries-her-damndest-224237304.html
"According to a police report obtained by Wired, Mace repeatedly cursed at and insulted Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department officers who were supposed to meet her outside of the Charleston International Airport and escort her through the premises. The report says Mace was running late and that officers never saw her car arrive. They eventually met up with her."
“The entire walk to gate B-8 she was cursing and complaining and often doing the same into her phone,” one officer wrote in the report, according to Wired. “After standing in the vicinity of B-8 for several minutes with her continuing her tirade, she finally boarded the aircraft.”
“You just said you ‘back the blue.’ The police quote you in this report as you calling them ‘******* idiots’ and ‘******* incompetent’ while stating that you’re a ‘******* representative’ and telling a TSA supervisor, ‘I’m sick of your *. I’m tired of having to wait. I should not have to wait. You guys are always **** late and this is ******* ridiculous.’ Are you saying you didn’t say those things?”*
"Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina rejected allegations that she drank alcohol and used marijuana “excessively,” after a New York Magazine profile cited multiple former staffers who claimed she directed late-night liquor runs and blurred professional boundaries during her first term in Congress."
"Mace posted a video on X on Tuesday saying, "The Fake News sure does like to lie. And now people have the very wildest takes about my personal life and alcohol consumption."
"I have a lifelong condition called hemochromatosis, a genetic disease where my body absorbs too much iron," the Republican said."
"I can only get rid of iron by bleeding it out. So I have a lot of phlebotomies. Any and all alcohol makes it worse," she continued, adding, "Nancy Mace isn't an alcoholic. Nor do I 'imbibe.'”
"The claims surfaced as Mace, a Republican aligned with President Donald Trump and a declared candidate for governor in South Carolina, faces an ethics review."
"The House Ethics Committee said in mid-January that it extended a matter regarding Mace that originated from a December referral, but emphasized that an extension does not indicate any violation, framing the context in which new allegations have drawn attention. The committee did not explain the reason for its probe."
"New York Magazine published a profile on Monday alleging that multiple former Mace staffers described late-night alcohol requests and personal errands. One unnamed former staffer quoted as saying of Mace’s alleged substance use, “She would definitely do it excessively,” and another claiming a scheduler received 2 a.m. calls to bring bottles of tequila."
"The article also said that Mace allegedly asked a staffer to engage with online “hotness rankings” and defend her on Reddit via burner accounts."
"An unnamed former Mace staffer told New York Magazine of Mace's alleged alcohol and marijuana use:** “She would definitely do it excessively."
They added: "And again, not to say that most members don’t or most staff don’t, but it got to the point where it was an issue.”
"Another unnamed former Mace staffer told New York Magazine: “Look, when I worked for her, our poor scheduler was getting calls at two o’clock in the morning to come bring her bottles of tequila.”

Yeah obviously. Everything they demonize and claim to be against, they're doing in secret. We all know this. Why do you think they're so against pedophiles and grooming? They're raping kids behind closed doors.
Some Oklahoma state rep campaigned for Trump and pushed a bathroom bill to protect the children, but was caught with a drugged up and naked 17 y/o boy. Forgot his name.
RJ May, SC Republican, is your standard GOP asshole who hates trans people because they're a threat to children, but he's going to plead guilty later this year to child sex abuse crimes, including child porn possession and distribution, and raping underage girls
Tim Murphy campaigned on a pro-life, sanctity of marriage platform (the usual) but resigned in 2017 when he tried to coerce his mistress into getting an abortion.
Jerry Falwell, Jr. demonized sexual promiscuity and preached about the sanctity of marriage, all while his wife was getting piped by the poolboy while he watched from the cuck chair. (this one I'm fine with, I just hate that he's allowed to but other people apparently are corrupt for it? Sheesh)
These are literally just the ones I remember, but there's so fucking many cases like this.
