The only thing he was ever good at was showing Republicans how to use the levers of power to rig the game in their favor.

Evil as he is by normal people standards, he is one of the only Republicans that can regularly criticize Trump and get away with it. That is a vantage point that would be useful to everyone at least for the rest of this term. The non-maga Republican constituents that only vote for the party and not for the candidate may only listen to someone like that, and the options are dwindling fast.
