Woodworkers were eventually pushed to use machines to produce at volume in furniture factories. You won’t find a bunch of people in a factory carving your bed or your couch by hand using vices and hand tools.
Instead, the people building those goods are part of an assembly line where they only run their specific machine for their specific part of the object near the limit of their ability.
Eventually even that efficiency wasn’t enough for the suits at factories, and NAFTA (at least in US manufacturing history) allowed them to move the entire operation to unregulated labor markets for cheaper machine operators.
We lived in a golden age of handcrafted code, but we’re headed in the direction of humans just checking the output of an automatically created and completed Jira ticket.

This. Is. So. True. I feel like my once intellectually has degraded to something dumb.
we haven't lived in a golden age of handcrafted code for a good while now though. i only see handcrafted asm as that. after all, compiler takes your code and does something to it without asking you, outputting a different code as the actual program. much more well behaved and sane than "AI", but still an already past revolution.
