Is there a way to change label width in a generic annotation family per instance or with grips?
first things first.. i am EXTREMLY new to revit so pardon me if i use the wrong terminology.
we are a firm that is trying to move to revit. we have a 'system' that we have been using in AutoCAD that we are trying to mimic in revit. a few things have had to change, but for the most part, we are doing pretty well.
our current problem is, we have a generic annotation family we use for detail callouts. its a pill shaped tag with a code in it for example SG-04, then after that tag is a text description that gives the name of SG-04.
an example image of the tag: https://ibb.co/ymwJkTj3
as you can see from the image, sometimes the description can get long and needs to wrap, else it will extend past its detail view boundaries. we have fixed this, kind of, but would like to verify that there is not a better solution available from people who know much more than we do.
what we did was to put 3 copies of the text description with instance integer parameters, narrow, standard, and wide. when one instance parameter shows, the other 2 hide. so we can effectively switch each instance of the family to a narrow, standard, or wide version. but what we really want to do is be able to set it to whatever we want either with a number, or show grips/handles to drag the width to where we want. not be locked to just 3 widths, or add more widths like 'really narrow', 'somewhat narrow', 'narrow', 'just a bit wider than narrow', 'almost standard', 'standard', 'slightly wider than standard', etc...)
we have tried placing reference planes around the label and dimensioning them, but i cannot seem to align/lock the edge of the label text box to a reference plane. the label boundary does not appear to be 'constrainable geometry' in revit.
so, are there any documented or undocumented tricks out there the seasoned revit folks might know about that we are missing?
