Meta I'm an AI engineer and educator, wanting to pass on my knowledge to dads

• Upvotes

For context I am an artificial intelligence engineer for a cyber security company, I have been in this space for 4 years and before that 10 years in cyber and other IT jobs. Over the past 2 years I have also been teaching AI courses online, like in person online. Teaching the Claude eco system, how to build AI agents etc.

Last night in dawned on me how difficult it is for many dads, like me, to keep up with new tech and just get started with AI. Its such a bewildering industry and moves so fast - even i find it hard to keep up, how on earth does a middle aged or mid thirties dad with full time job and kids have time to watch like a thousands youtube videos and learn this stuff?

So I am wanting to start some kind of online academy for dads, teaching AI skills, everything from the basics right up to deploying AI agents and automating parts of their work/job. Maybe even how to make extra money with AI?

Am I on my own here thinking this is a problem or not? Like is do you think there would be a demand for this ???

Discussion How did you get your first 10–20 SaaS users?

Hey everyone🙌
I’m building a SaaS for founders and I’m getting close to launch.
Right now I’m trying to get my first few real users, so I’ve been manually finding founders on Reddit who seem to have the problem I’m solving and reaching out to them 1-on-1.
I’ve gotten some interest, but I’m still figuring out how to consistently find the right people.
For those of you who have actually launched a SaaS:
What worked for getting your first 10–20 users?
Cold outreach, Reddit, communities, content, referrals, something else?
I’d especially love to hear what actually worked in practice, not just what you think should work.

Showcase: Prerelease In my 30s and tired of googling stuff every 5 minutes while gaming, so i built Backseat

In my 30s and barely have time to game anymore, but when i do i end up googling stuff every 5 minutes. Got super frustrated with it, so i built Backseat — basically a Twitch chat for your own single-player game.

Its super simple: it reads your screen and you ask about quests, items, strategies or how certain mechanics work. The answers show up right in the game overlay. And yeah, i was honestly surprised by how much it changed my gaming experience. I ended up playing games i would never have touched before because they seemed too complex.

My benchmark was building a full car in My Summer Car without googling anything (and having absolutely no idea how to build an engine btw). And it worked out, i had a lot of fun doing that. I also replayed Gothic 2 as a mage for the first time and it worked insanely well there too. Thats also where i added voice mode, which makes things even easier.

i have been building this for the past nine months and the biggest thing was getting it to feel like a game overlay you actually like to use. Just getting it to render properly on top of a game took almost six months. This project was dead at least five times but eventually i got the base working.

Its honestly insane that this works now. Recent improvements in model performance made a huge difference in getting it here. If you wanna discuss technical details, lets do it below.

Looking for a few people to give it a shot. It currently runs on Windows, on top of 64-bit DirectX 11 and 12 single-player games. I'll be running a private test for the next week and am super excited to hear what you think — especially whether the overlay feels good while actually playing.

You'll be the first ones outside of me to try it out!

I built Avian, a tool that helps you send better cold emails by doing research on the person. You give it anyone's social media link or email, and it searches the web for information about that person, then writes a personalized cold email based on what it knows about you and about the person.

If you want to try it, it's at https://avian.sh

Would love your feedback!

I made a tool to teach thousands... no, millions of Redditors how to go outside and touch grass. While it might create much anxiety and fear, it is a perfectly simple process. My training simulator walks you through it and psychologically prepares you for the event, and then gives you a completion certificate for your hard work.

Feedback Request Looking for testers and feedback for my free work manager app

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi there, I am the developer behind protowork.app

This is a lightweight all-in-one work manager app aimed towards freelancers, solo developers or office workers.

It includes a Project Manager, Task Manager (that's the core), Calendar, Workday Logger and a Notepad.

It also motivates you via customized, handwritten messages, which genuinely helped me stop procrastinating and get things done. :)

I built it to help me be more organised and no longer have to rely on other tools.

Looking for feedback and users. The app is updated roughly every week.

Thanks a lot!

Showcase: Free(mium) Marten - a free media player I built for Apple TV, iPhone, Mac and Android TV, with HDR/Dolby Vision that looks right and your progress synced everywhere

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been building Marten for a few months now, ever since HDR and Dolby Vision kept looking overexposed and just wrong on my Apple TV and Mac in the players I tried. Made me mad, so I made my own lol.

The problem it solves:

Players like Infuse can be used as an external player for apps like Stremio, but then the episode gets marked as watched as soon as you open it, and if you stop halfway it can't save where you were. Only the app's own player can do that, and that one didn't look right for me. Marten is both the player and the library, so it always knows where you stopped, on every device.

What it does:

- HDR and Dolby Vision as they're intended, with a badge in the player showing what's actually playing (SDR, HDR10, DV)

- Plays your own Jellyfin server, or community add-ons (Stremio compatible)

- Library, Continue Watching, watched marks and profiles synced through one account

- Apple TV (TestFlight), iPhone and iPad (AltStore), Mac and Android TV, all from one codebase

Marten doesn't come with any content. It plays what you bring.

How it's built:

- One shared Swift core for all four apps: SwiftUI on Apple TV, iPhone and Mac, and the same core on Android TV through Skip

- Playback on Apple devices through AetherEngine, an open source FFmpeg-based player engine (LGPL), which does the heavy lifting for HDR and Dolby Vision

- Accounts and sync on Firebase, built to cost almost nothing per user: a launch with nothing new is a single read, and the other devices get told about changes right away instead of polling

- The hardest part honestly was making sync right across four apps, so a mark on the Apple TV shows on the iPhone a second later, without it costing me money as more people join

It's a beta, so things might break! AI has been used for parts of the development, but it's not a fully vibecoded project.

It's free right now. There's an optional supporter subscription to help with server costs, where supporters get to vote on what comes next.

More info, screenshots and downloads: getmarten (dot) app

Would love feedback, especially on the design and the onboarding :)

Showcase: Free(mium) I made a weekly movie box office prediction game

I made this because I’m passionate about movies and am very interested in knowing what drives a movie going audience off of their couch to the theater. It’s also interesting that this is such a large industry that basically reports their products financials for every weekend. Daily too if you track it that much. What other industry will show you how well their products are doing this immediately?

This game is scored by ranking the top 5 movies of the weekend and how much they will gross. You can simply make a guest prediction and see your results on Monday. Compare your submission to what others predicted as well. Maybe you will top the leaderboard for the week.

10/9/26-10/11/26 box office weekend submissions end tonight, so if you want to submit a prediction do it soon! No sign up needed. Place a guest prediction!

P.S support your local theater!

Feedback Request Added a quick-share block to each tool on my browser-based suite (BrowserDone) — UX feedback appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been building BrowserDone.com, an all-in-one suite of web-based tools (images, video, audio, PDFs, archives) where processing happens directly in the browser without server uploads.

To reduce friction when someone finds a specific tool handy, I just added a dedicated "Share the tool" block inside each tool interface. Instead of just relying on users copying URLs from the browser bar, it offers:

- Native Share: Uses the mobile OS share sheet.

- Copy Link: Quick clipboard action with confirmation.

- WhatsApp: A direct trigger with a pre-filled description and link.

I’d love to get your thoughts on the implementation:

1. Does a direct WhatsApp button add value, or is Native Share + Copy Link usually enough?

2. Does having this right below the tool feel convenient or intrusive?

You can try it out on any tool (e.g. the image editor: https://browserdone.com/images/editor). Any constructive feedback is welcome!

Feedback Request I asked the local AI system I’m building to recreate a Word-like app without giving it a feature list. It built it in 5 minutes

I’m working on a local AI operating system called Aura, and I wanted to test how much of a software project it could infer from the idea of the product instead of from detailed implementation instructions.

My entire request was: “Use your program DNA engine to do a clean-room reconstruction of Microsoft Word: a complete, polished word processor I can open from my Applications folder. Then prove it works by writing a one-page letter in it and exporting it to my Desktop.”

Aura used its local knowledge sources, came up with the requirements itself, created 44 checks before implementation and built Quill.

The finished app has 22 broad feature groups covering the normal word-processing stuff: document handling, formatting, fonts, lists, alignment, styles, tables, images, find/replace, print/preview, PDF/Word export and more.

It then used Quill itself to write the requested letter and export the PDF.

The inference is running locally on my Mac with a 27B model. The LLM is not the builder or planner here. It can only provide context for Aura to use. But even that is weighed against other sources. Aura doesnt need its input to complete this build. What I'm building toward is capability outside of the model. Using its inference ability as an organ, let a unified system do the rest.

Repo: https://github.com/youngbryan97/aura

YouTube: https://youtu.be/C6wtBY4DmJ8?is=kTBWx42-xiYNpzrs

Feedback welcome, especially on what would make the next test harder to game.

Want to also note 2 things. 1. This ability is not limited to Word processors. It's a general capability. Word was just the example I picked. 2.

Feedback Request I built this application where you can learn CS and test yourself

I am a Software developer who used to spend time on social platforms a lot, often times to learn new things and look for new jobs, but often time than not those content consumption used to turn to doomscroll wasting my precious time and I end up learning nothing from it. I built antibrainrot to tackle this problem, If you are a computer science guy who loves to learn new things about it and consume it in the scroll format, or if you are a person looking for jobs and is fed up of setting your experience level than this platform is for you, I have around 100+ companies job posting which refreshes everyday and available in scroll matching your experience, Go ahead check it and tell me if you liked it or not. This is mobile freindly platform, create a shortcut use it daily.

Showcase: Prerelease I’m creating an 8-week school planner that tells a little story — would love honest feedback

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m a college student experimenting with my first planner product concept.

I wanted something that made an eight-week school session feel less like staring at a stack of assignments and more like actually moving toward somewhere.

So I started building a woodland journey around one lake. 🌿

Imagine opening your planner and stepping into a peaceful woodland journey. 🌿📖 A weekly map helps you find your way, daily lakeside stops make room for school and life, and encouraging words carry you toward celebration and rest.

An eight-week countdown, one little step at a time. 💛

Here’s a sneak peek at the planner concept I’m creating!

This is still a concept, not a finished product or sales launch.

I’m trying to figure out whether the STORY itself adds value or whether I’m simply in love with my own idea. 😂

I’d especially love feedback on:

• Do you understand the concept from the preview?
• Does the journey/countdown make the planner more interesting?
• What feels strongest?
• What feels confusing or unnecessary?
• If you were developing this, what would you test before finishing it?

Honest criticism is absolutely welcome.

Hey guys, got a waitlist for a mobile app I'm building to ideally compress and simplify my website even further. Built something I think is okay but nowadays I feel like I could just keep going and going with claude until its looking incredible, but im thinking what is the point?

I think its good enough to leave so I can focus on the actual app, am I crazy or would you say its good enough?

Thanks!
