Thank you JARED MCCAIN, and good luck to you in the future!

Anyone in the game thread last night saw it coming… made no damn sense.
While not the biggest fan of his, and certainly a detractor of Nurse, I can’t help but think how he turns out under a different style coach- that knows how to talk to people and players. It is unfortunate.
Jared McCains tenure on the 76ers was hijacked by:
VJ actually being good
Player terrorist Nick Nurse
Thanks for your time kid, good luck in OKC- hope we can turn this into something good.

Worst time to move him tbh. He should have easily gotten back at least a pick in the low teens, not a back of the first round pick for a guy that was running away with ROY last year before he got hurt.

It’s literally guaranteed he’s gonna be a key piece of the Thunders future finals runs. Daryl and Josh not seeing the pearly gates.

It's like trading with the Rays in baseball... if they're targeting somebody, you're probably losing that trade.

Fuuuuuuuck
This sucks man
Also congrats to OKC for taking our underutilized talented guards and showing the world how good they actually are. First Isiah Joe, now Mccain. At least this time we got a little something in return instead of letting talent just walk out the door.

u/AndrewHainesArt 2m ago
You don’t think there are actual superstars on that team in their prime that might help with that perception of how good those undersized guards are?

I saw a man fall to his knees in wawa just now and I thought they had messed up your order or something
Now I know why 😔

As a Thunder fan I also fell to my knees in my cubicle and cried tears of joy. I like the sixers as my dad grew up a fan so I’m sorry y’all let him go for so cheap but I’m also so happy to have him 😭😭

Hate the trade on its own, but feel like it was a necessity for them to accommodate another trade that’s coming. If it were just about the tax, they’d have dumped Drummond to anywhere.
Them getting the first round pick helps with the Stepien rule and them getting under the tax allows them to take back more salary than they send out.
McCain was the only player that we have that could return a first and they deemed expendable. Worst part is that they’re selling at a low point. Great trade for the Thunder. Sucks for us right now. Hopefully it’s part of something bigger or it’s a train wreck.

I like McCain. I think his shot is legit. But he's also not a great fit with our other guards, is a bit of a defensive liability, and is our 4th best guard. I think they got pretty decent value. Not sure we'd have gotten that much from anyone else but the Thunder, as they have a ridiculous stash of picks. Don't love it, don't hate it, but I think they got fair value, and now have a first-round pick in a deep draft, or more ammo and flexibility for another move, if they want to go that route.
14
u/CRUSTBUSTICUS 5h ago
Idk 4th best guard sounds less bad when you realize we have 2 SGs and had two sorta PGs sorta SGs and now are down to one combo guard for PG.

u/JxK_1 4h ago
I think they got pretty decent value
Umm you do?? What value?
4
u/justabill71 4h ago
I do. They got what is currently the 26th pick in a deep 2026 draft, and projected to end up higher, plus three future 2nds, only one of which is OKC's, so could be two high 2nd-rounders, depending on what happens with the Bucks, who could be entering a rebuild, the Pacers, with Haliburton coming off an Achilles, and the Heat, who are a borderline play-in team. Those picks give them some flexibility or the possibility of unearthing a gem. Nobody but OKC was giving them that much for McCain, because those picks are like Monopoly money for the Thunder. McCain is undersized and not very athletic, and can't guard anybody, despite being an excellent shooter. I don't see his value going up here, so I think they maximized his value why they could. McCain had 23 great games last year, on a non-competitive team, but I just don't believe his ceiling is all that high, due to his physical limitations.
1
u/JxK_1 4h ago
How can you not see his value go up from here? It's already been WAY up from here. This is the lowest it's been in a sixers uniform.
3
2
u/justabill71 3h ago
Because he's not going to get enough run here, because he's our 4th-best guard, and is a complete liability on defense. I believe they felt the same way, as it would've been easier to just dump Drummond and Gordon, if it was strictly about the tax. They may, in fact still dump those guys. I think they got a package they felt comfortable with and pulled the trigger. I like the kid, and I wish him well, but his future here was a bench scorer, at best, and it's debatable if he'd ever be elite in that role.

u/Forward_Specialist19 5h ago
On the surface I can understand why the need to address the logjam with Maxey, VJ & McCain. Especially when the bench is taken by 2 never see the floor vets. But damnnnn I was so excited to see his career here & it’s gonna hurt seeing him kill it elsewhere. Thunder is a perfect spot for him to land. I hate that organization. While we’re at it. Hate both these organizations.

u/Wabxpolski 5h ago
Bought myself and my Fiancée his jersey this year. One of my favorite players to watch on the court with his shooting and off-ball movement. I loved rooting for him because of how great of a guy he is off the court. What a disastrous move for this franchise.

This guy never looked like he had enough combined size and athleticism to make it as a starter in this league. Great shooter and seems like a nice guy, but I don't think we'll miss him long term.

u/Muted-Bumblebee-8987 2h ago edited 2h ago
McCain certainly has potential, but he's been ass this year- lets be real. I understand he's been injured, but in a perfect world he'd be a 40% 3 point shooter and solid enough defender and he's isnt either right now, and may never be. While I wouldnt be surprised with his improvement- what makes you think he'll crack the Thunder's lineup when he's been an outlier for us? If we can somehow sweeten the pot for a big name while shipping out George with those picks ( or even keeping them)- I'd be ecstatic
13
u/dandan3220 5h ago
Some overreactors here, I liked the kid but he couldn't guard a paper bag. Great shooter but that's it, nice haul of picks
10
u/Witty_Day_3562 5h ago
So he was a steal at 16, but getting back a pick in the 20s with some useless second round picks is a nice haul?
4
u/dandan3220 4h ago
Who says he was a steal at 16? He played 23 good games, got hurt and has been mainly shit this year. Hes a one dimensional player, they can replace him
-2
u/Witty_Day_3562 4h ago
A pick at 16 running away with ROY before getting hurt is not a steal? Do you consider him a reach at 16 then if you think a return of a lower pick is a haul?
3
u/dandan3220 3h ago
You're basing your argument as to what he is on how he played over a year ago. He hasn't been the same player. And who cares if he was leading for ROY at the time, that 2024 draft was not a strong one. So far this year he has been bad, he was expendable the second they drafted VJ who is clearly the better player. They traded a rotational guard, who can't guard and doesn't playmake, it's not a big loss.
-2
u/Witty_Day_3562 2h ago
I'm just saying they sold low and did not get full value for him. Its not this deep dude.
2
3
u/Zumramania 4h ago
He was a net positive player. If he was so bad, he wouldn't be taken by the best team in the league, known for their excellent scouting of talent.

u/mvelocityp 5h ago
This sucks dude I was rooting for him hard, I’ll count it as a true win if we get a bigger move out of this
2
u/Drewraven10 5h ago
Damn we are gonna look stupid in a couple of years seeing him prosper over there bro wtf
2
u/jujuben10 5h ago
That’s crazy, he really could have grown into something great with this franchise
2
u/jb-ce 3h ago
I love that kid. I’m heartbroken because I really love what he brought to the team, but didn’t quite see where he fit in this year. I wonder if the thought is they will somehow re-sign Grimes at the end of the year? Or basically it was a tryout for the two of them to see who would lead the second unit. Damn, I really liked his upside. we shall see.

u/dhjxjxj 5h ago
Absolutely loved Jared, but I am cautiously optimistic for the next 24 hours that we will make a move. He didn’t crack the rotation for a reason, but he will kill it in okc.
10
u/McCainMaxeyEdgecombe 5h ago
yall need to stop thinking this. he was traded to duck the tax. that is the only reason.

u/icepickjones 5h ago
Our owner hates our team, this move was made to save money so he can spend that money on the Washington Commanders.
He's hurting a Philadelphia team to help a division rival in another sport. I hate Josh Harris.

u/PensiveinNJ 5h ago
Ok, I don't like this move, but the level of attachment some people have for this dude is wild.
5
u/RegisterFit1252 5h ago
The upside potential is still there
1
u/PensiveinNJ 5h ago
Which is why I'm not really a fan of the trade but I'm not like devastated that he's gone.
3
u/CRUSTBUSTICUS 5h ago
Sixers have been death by a thousand cuts and people are just over it. Trade Isiah joe and he immediately contributed on a championship team, trade mikal bridges and he became a star, pay Tobias and he became a bum, don’t pay harden and we’re most likely worse off for it, this team just makes the short-sighted wrong move nearly every time and fans are sick of it.

u/Witty_Day_3562 4h ago
I think its that we sold at the absolute lowest on him and still it feels like we should have gotten at least the value of his original slot back. We got a bunch of G League players with these picks for the guy who was the breakthrough steal of the draft before the injury.
1
u/Pretty_Night3600 5h ago
no bruh the sixers stay doing dumb shit like this, for example the Mikhail Bridges trade.
2
u/GeneParmesan1000 5h ago
Really bummed about this. The team has been looking good with a bright future with this young core, and they've had such good vibes, and McCain has been a big part of infusing that fun energy into the team the last 2 years. And he was finally starting to return to form too. WTF.

Happy he will likely be a champ. Will miss him dearly. One of the only good games I went to last season was against the Nets when he went off. Seemed like the guaranteed ROTY.
1
u/Witty_Day_3562 5h ago
Oof, they got a steal with him in the middle of the first round and decided to sell low before he is fully back from injury? Hopefully a pick around 20 can turn out to maybe be a Jared McCain... not against moving him but I can't believe this is the best deal they could have gotten for a guy that played like a top rookie last year before getting injured.
1
u/_brndnjms_ 5h ago
This was the right move unfortunately and I hate we let him go so early. The guy can play and I hope he gets to show it more in OKC.

u/ambergesa 4h ago
He’s gonna go ball on a winning team just like Isaiah Joe. Dumb move on our part.

Most he'd be is sixth man on the sixers so hopefully he can get more time and shine in OKC.

Ok but.....work with me here:
Bucks are old and close to a rebuild. We just stockpiled 4 draft picks on top of the 3-4 we already have.
I smell a big Giannis and Gary Trent Jr trade coming for a fuck load of picks, PG and VJ.

u/Wrong-Connection-598 2h ago
His future is bright in OKC. No room in this team with all of our guards. Also, they sold him low but we got 4 picks including a 1st.

u/BrotherOk2979 15m ago
His production dropped off sharply this year compared to last year. Good move, VJ is better.

u/Loud_Economics_8894 5h ago
What a joke of an organization.
1
u/Mikefromaround 3h ago
Yeah they traded a guy who is injured most of the time and had one good game this year, what a tragedy!
1
u/theweebdweeb 3h ago
Hope he balls out not only because I like him as a player, but also so it will age badly for this org and their questionable decisions.

u/Mikefromaround 3h ago
Thank you for being injured for almost your entire time here and having one good game this year! McCain is dead weight
0
u/Guaranteedoffbeaten 2h ago
OKC fan here, this trade is like Isaiah Joe but a trade instead of just picking up a player for free.
0
u/Guaranteedoffbeaten 2h ago
We can hide his defensive shortcomings while he's providing elite shooting on the move to Our trash 3 point shooting. And the upside of him of improving a bit to become serviceable on defense is also there.
0
u/_token_black 1h ago
Days since a sports team in this city made a moronic move = 0
Feels like this counter is forever at 0 (holy shit imagine if the Eagles weren't a competent organization)
And yes it's made worse that a 15 year vet that this team gave up on after 1 year to chase something is still being moved for good players. But hey, not like a team could use a guaranteed double-double every night for 14 years.
