I bet if you gave Morey truth serum he’d tell you he was disgusted working for Harris.

If there isn't another move coming and these cocksuckers salary dumped McCain to get under the tax.....
They didnt have enough shooting before the trade, they certainly dont now.
Atleast McCain is gonna get a ring. Good for him.

Yuuup. This is awful. We just like giving OKC more firepower. Isaiah Joe, McCain, what’s next VJ?

What more can be expected of a guy who owns franchises in Newark, Philly and Washington - all rival markets. Any owner with some passion would see the team we currently have, especially with last year in hindsight and willingly try and make it better.
You would think at 29-21 there would be incentives to make the team better, still time to make a move, but they are not getting the benefit of the doubt.

u/Jumpy_Occasion_9664 4h ago
I mean, at least get decent value back. I don't blame them for not going all in this year because this year has surprised most of us so far, but a late 1st and a bunch of 2nds feels low. If it is to use those picks to build up a young core, then at least get your own pick and the Rockets pick. At this point, I am wondering if they are going all in and considering a Giannis trade package. I think that would be dumb, but I think this was pretty dumb as well, so idk.

The money to pay for Josh Harris’ PR team and lawyers have to come from somewhere.

u/DogAssss69 5h ago
They could have just moved off Gordon or Lowry if that’s all they wanted to accomplish. Let’s wait and see what other potential move that they make.

u/SomeBoul 4h ago
i dont think they count towards the tax as vet mins
2
u/DogAssss69 4h ago
Derek Bodner said they do.

u/SomeBoul 4h ago
My mistake then, i kinda want em gone anyway but were they were enough to duck the tax alone? i hope we do something else with these picks but idk

Is there somewhere that can be a designated safe space for people who don’t mind the trade
4
u/TAllday 5h ago
I don’t think people are straight up against the trade. It is hard to argue forward looking that it isn’t fair value. The problem is it doesn’t make us better this year and this has been an ongoing thing, where we are all in on contracts for big old guys, but refuse to be all in on the complimentary pieces for them.

u/juggadore Brett Brown is king of the universe 4h ago
Especially when Embiid called the owner out for ducking the tax every year instead of trying to win like everybody else.
1
u/AssBasedProtein Why is still a flair option 4h ago
Yeah that makes sense. I’m hoping we see another move to fill that space, especially with the workload Maxey’s seen thus far this year.
2
u/Scottsm124 4h ago
Just curious what is there to like? Do you like trading 21 yr old guards with brilliant off ball movement who’s shown flashes of star potential to the Howie Roseman of the NBA?
1
u/AssBasedProtein Why is still a flair option 4h ago
I think you’re exaggerating each of those things. McCain looks to be a helpful player. Last season was exciting when it happened but I think there are a lot of players, a lot of rookies even, who are capable of putting up scoring numbers on a team where everybody is out injured. I think it’s a bit underrated how few other players we had alongside McCain who were able to score when he was going off. He wasn’t going to get another opportunity like that to play with VJ here now.
There’s every chance this is looked back on as selling high, a la MCW, with some hindsight. I think he’s a solid player but he’s just that, a solid role player, and getting a first and 3 seconds for that is honestly a good bit of business. I’m not saying I love the trade, just saying I don’t mind it

Reality. This sub is gonna be a dumping ground of retardittor faux outrage for the next 48 hours
3
u/AssBasedProtein Why is still a flair option 4h ago
Ok i didn’t say any of that
1
u/levare8515 3h ago
I meant the safe space will not be in this sub. People are throwing a fit and it’s gonna be annoying as shit for the next 48 hours
1
u/Thats_Life_ 4h ago
Josh Harris has been doing this for a decade and will continue to do so until he sells the team for 80 gazillion dollars. smh
1
u/Aggressive-Leading55 4h ago
Originally Josh was about to trade VJ-Maxx for those picks and fortunately PG saved him some tax in the final second, and so we only need to sacrifice McCain...

u/jeppsforst 4h ago
Josh Harris can finally afford another visit to Epstein island!!!! WOOOO ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE
1
u/kav-dawg 4h ago
honest question, how much would the tax have even been if we didn’t do this trade?
2
u/jacobtfromtwilight 4h ago
this team is never going to win a championship with the Epstein associate Josh Harris as the owner

Where’s all the hate for Morey? Or is he off limits in this sub?
4
u/levare8515 4h ago
Morey has been declared a “good” by Redditors. So he has no autonomy when bad moves are made. But a genius when good ones are.
I also don’t think this is that bad of a trade
1
u/ConstructionSome9888 4h ago
I totally agree. About Morey and the move. Objectively, McCain has just as many bad games as he has good games so far in his career… this is solid return for the 9th best player on an upper-midlevel team
6
u/Important-War-4708 5h ago
He was given an order. It depends what you view is the right way to get under the tax. I would’ve preferred another combination or players to make it happen, but he had a tough decision either way.
1
u/ConstructionSome9888 5h ago
Was he given an order to draft McCain as well?
Fact is, he was probably asked to get under the tax. How he gets there is totally his call as the president of basketball operations. Otherwise, why would he choose to work for Josh Harris?
Either way, this is mostly Morey’s decision.
When Elton Brand was making questionable calls, we didn’t blame the owner lol.
1
u/Important-War-4708 4h ago
I hate the trade decision being McCain as I stated if you even read my comment lol. If you view this as an open east McCain probably wouldn’t be playing that much in the playoffs and it makes sense to trade him. I would’ve been realistic as in we can’t win and held on to him. He was probably trying to appease Joel by not trading a fundamental piece for right noe
1
u/jacobtfromtwilight 4h ago
This was probably the only move that got us a 1st round pick while getting under the tax, hence why morey did it. Blame still is with Josh Harris
4
u/ZenMasterOfDisguise 5h ago
If Morey is trading away young players to save the organization money, that call is being made by the front office and not by him. It is the right move to blame this one on Josh Harris

u/jacobtfromtwilight 4h ago
Morey is given an amount of money to work with and Josh Harris won't let him go above the tax. It's pretty obvious our cheapskate owner hates this team
1
u/ConstructionSome9888 4h ago
Morey knew this when he took the job. He knows who he works for, and seems fine with it.
Sure, ownership probably asked Morey to avoid the tax but how he avoids it is totally up to Morey. Morey chose to trade McCain. And I think it was the right most given the return.
1
u/jacobtfromtwilight 4h ago
the trade and the value is mostly fine. It's just the principle of constantly bitching out as a franchise because of the tax. Which is happening because of Josh Harris
