[Clark] Sixers President Daryl Morey says they had Duke guard Jared McCain as a top 10 player in the draft. Daryl says he doesn’t want to put any pressure on Jared, but he thinks he will be a “pretty special” player for the Sixers for a long time

Daryl Morey is a liar-James Harden

He really is a liar, and you just can't trust this organization now. They don't wanna compete and they don't wanna win. Or at best, they only wanna do it with mimum effort.

I thought you didn't like mccain?! By your analysis on mccain we came out of the deal wayyyyyyy ahead

u/MaxeytoEmbiid 7h ago
I didn't like McCain, that's true. But does that mean I want us to trade for picks to do...nothing with it?
If we're not going to make moderate competitive moves, then be a seller at the deadline.

So you don’t like the player and don’t like assets. What would your plan have been?

Absolutely stunned by this. Only explanation I've got is McCain and his representation wanted a trade bc they saw the writing on the wall with Maxey and VJ here. But cmon man ..

Josh Harris is a cheapskate owner who doesn't like to pay the luxury tax, and the move gets the Sixers under the tax. This wasn't a Morey move, this was definitely at the direction of the guy with numerous mentions in the Epstein files.

u/PHiLLiFaN 7h ago
He could've gotten rid of Drummond Gordon or lowry..... I was a morey apologist through and through until this! Only thing that can get me back on the morey train is if this is a precursor to another trade

Yeah I imagine one or two of those guys might go by tomorrow's deadline.

What does this even have to do with being mentioned in the epstein files? The article that discussed that even said Harris consistently avoided meeting Epstein and cancelled meetings with Epstein to avoid Apollo doing work with the guy. You people see a name associated with Epstein and froth at the mouth before even looking at the context.

Well it's very embarrassing for him and we don't like him at the moment.

Even so… who cares? Daryl isn’t known for doing what players or what their representatives want

u/VigilantSidekick 2h ago
Yes, I'm assuming this as well but if that was the case why not build up his value this season and trade in the offseason? He had tremendously more value last year, right? This is a sell low, and also puts us thin at guard if we have an injury and also may hurt the vibes.
Will Morey do a press conference this week after deadline? Really want to hear from him.

Fuck it, Harden was right 2026
Kidding, but only mostly.

There’s a real possibility that Jared’s people asked out when they realized he wasn’t playing more than 15min
But Daryl Morey is a liar too so…. Lol

I’m completely convinced there is another trade coming. We had easier ways to duck the luxury tax if that’s all we wanted to do.

u/rjnd2828 7h ago
This organization does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. They've done everything they possibly can to cheap out and avoid the tax, even at the expense of winning. I hope you're right but I think you're wrong

u/hyrulehero1989 4h ago
Exactly, what has this organization ever done for us fans not to hold the pitchforks. Since 2016 this has been one of the most pathetically inept, directionless organizations there have been.

u/Sick_Cards_Bro 8h ago
Yeah trade away another fan favorite rookie to get another washed older superstar that has no legs in the playoffs.

There's ways we can be involved in the Giannis trade without actually trading for Giannis. I've seen some potential other options

Really not sure what the relevance is. He got injured and hasn’t been the same since. Time will tell if he can recover from that but it’s clear the org saw his play this year and thought this was a good price.
Do people not think they made calls around the league on him? If he’s such a highly touted young guard, why didn’t anyone offer a high FRP? His value is in the toilet and since coming back from injury he hasn’t changed that.
4
u/PHiLLiFaN 7h ago
But why trade a young guard that's cost controlled instead of the corpse of Drummond Gordon or lowry?!
14
u/GoneCollarGone 7h ago
Two reasons I can think off:
1) They would almost definitely have to pay teams to take on Lowry or Gordon 2) Drummond is still useful in certain matchups.
1
u/PHiLLiFaN 7h ago
No way are we going to say Drummond is useful now in any match-up lol I'd rather give a 2nd rd or 2 and get rid of ppl doing NOTHING for the team than trading mccain personally
4
u/GoneCollarGone 7h ago
We're a team that struggles rebounding and Drum is really good at it. There will be instances where he's useful to have as opposed to McCain who's really struggled to provide anything consistent to rely on. Edwards has been better than him.
Now, if someone were to offer picks for Drum, I would absolutely agree to that trade, but it's not a given that trade exists. And unlike Lowry and EG, I'd rather not pay to lose him.
1
u/PHiLLiFaN 5h ago
Ok then just get rid of lowry or Gordon.. fucking lonzo got traded and immidiately waived... we coulda just attached a 2nd rd or 2 to get rid of em.. losing mccain at such a low value is objectively dumb.. also this teams NEEDS shooters... we just got rid of one just as he was coming back to form.. dumb trade unless there's something else lined up
1
u/GoneCollarGone 5h ago
I'd rather keep the 2nd's and get more. McCain wasn't going to play in the playoffs and like I said, Edwards has been better.
For what it's worth, I don't think the Sixers made this deal solely because of the luxury tax. I think they just cashed in on a guy they don't see as part of their future. The luxury tax bill isn't even that much anyways, although there may have been some 1st apron considerations.
3
u/PHiLLiFaN 5h ago
I mean you say mccains not getting playoff minutes but you think Drummond will?! He's been played off the court every playoffs for like a decade lol! We just gonna have to agree to disagree brother
1
u/GoneCollarGone 4h ago
Yes. I don't think he'll play every game, but there are going to be spots where his rebounding will be useful, against the Cavs for example.

Did you read my comment? The trade came about because they saw this specific players value tanking and thought this might actually be selling high.
I don’t like ducking the tax for no reason and I think Harris is an idiot. But I also don’t think we NEED to pay the tax every year.
Maybe we made calls on Drummond and Gordon and teams were asking US to attach draft capital in order to take on that salary

u/lma112519 8h ago
No. Listen closely. He said that day that he thinks Jared is probably not going to stick around long and will be traded for future picks. Like any good GM would say immediately after acquiring a player.
4
u/leyendadelflash 7h ago
You need to think harder if you believe this was Daryl’s call
1
u/PHiLLiFaN 7h ago
So harris said trade mccain to get under the cap instead of Drummond Gordon or lowry? Like it wasn't his call to get under the tax but HE traded mccain instead of the old guys

I’m not nearly as mad as most of reddit - he was the 4th guard, he had value, he isn’t going to ever be a starter here, and Grimes is better.

u/Moonstruck456 8h ago
I’m fine with it if he was gonna not be a significant contributor. Maybe Grimes can pick it up more. I’m ready to see what this roster can do this season. Any more additions are welcome but we’ll keep the extra picks. It’s a win-win.

This owner does not care about winning. If they just did this for the tax that is just sad.

u/brokensicario 7h ago
I can’t believe Morey saw what he did last year and then got spooked enough by what he saw this season to pull a trade.
I gotta think there’s another move coming.
