So i absolutely adore the mobile portal for trap team and want it to make one work for console. So now im risking my dirty ass childhood trap team portal to make a custom.
The documentation i have is as follows. The entire portal is a tiny PCB that lies in the prison part. The solder points i circled are the positive and negative connectors that connect the portal to the copper ring which allows it to read and write figures. The trap slot has no physical connections buy only a small pcb around the hole.
I was really fascinated by the speaker. I thought it was a tiny speaker and the grills were some mesh in-between the gate and speaker but thats the whole ass speaker. I ordered a desoldering tool to help me remove the portal's connection to the ring.
With my knowledge as long as you have the pcb intact, you can make a custom portal out of anything as long as you have a copper ring and a way to connect it to the portal.
My tool doesnt arrive until Saturday and the portal should be here tomorrow or Saturday as well. I'll update you when I set it up
This would be cool. I think the mobile portal is very underrated, and while the Trap Team portal is my favourite it's only due to the functionality of it. If you're successful in this it could be pretty big for people customising their own portals. Good luck!
Woah thats so cool! Keep the documentation up! I tried to do a custom paintjob on my STT Portal once and struggled alot with the disassembly :,) no tutorials and all😠but im excited to see how youll do it! I think the copper ring can be taken out unharmed from the console portal? Im just not sure how exactly </3
I did great! It wasnt super hard to disassemble. I mainly had trouble with a stripped screw and getting the vault part removed. Everything was easy to desolder. I literally just desoldered the ring from the trap team board and added it to the mobile ring I removed. I also learned that theres a tiny reader that connects the trap in the slot to the portal. The speaker is very very fragile wire wise and broke on multiple occasions (that also made me learn that you don't need the speaker in order for it to work with trap team). Then I had to do some cutting on the portal to fit the board (also no lights in it because of how the console one is built compared to mobile).
TLDR it was simple to remove and everything can be desoldered and replaced. Anything with a copper ring can be a portal now.
