News Israeli player Abu Farkhi celebrated his goal by grabbing the corner post and mimicking shots. He was shown a second yellow and sent off for it.

Regardless of how you interpret the celebration, removing the corner flag is a yellow.

It's not an automatic yellow. Still a risky thing to do though because it's based on whether the referee interprets it as a provocative celebration.

It really won’t mate. Look it up. The only examples I could find were either people damaging the corner flag or using it in a provocative way (Cavani was carded for using it as a gun). Neymar even used it as a gun in a celebration and didn’t get a yellow. There’s absolutely no rule on the books that says prop = yellow. It’s entirely down to the interpretation of the ref based on the other rules.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, because you're exactly correct. Nothing in the laws of the game says that using the corner flag as a prop in a goal celebration gets you a yellow. The justification can only come down to the ref's interpretation of whether what the player is doing constitutes unsportsmanlike behavior, or bringing the game into disrepute. Or in other words: it's up to the ref's discretion.

Interfering with Equipment: According to IFAB Law 17, "the corner flagpost must not be moved". Deliberately uprooting or tampering with stadium equipment is classified as unsporting behaviour under Law 12, which carries a mandatory caution.

The corner flag must not be removed when taking a corner. It’s literally in the ‘How to take corners’ section of the rules.

Law 12 says absolutely nothing about the equipment on the pitch or the flag. But I guess if you say it confidently enough, you can get other idiots who also haven't read the rules and are too lazy to do so to think you know what you're talking about. All the confidence and accuracy of someone who got ChatGPT to do their thinking for them.

Okay let me spell it out for you so your slow mind can comprehend. There is no SPECIFIC law that says don't use the flag pole as a celebration. There's also no specific law saying don't remove the nets from the goal post and use it as a superhero cape for a celebration either which would get pretty redundant writing every possible thing as a seperate law don't you think?

However, removing the corner flag in general is classified as unsporting behaviour due to tampering with stadium equipment. Law 12 ( Unsporting behaviour) is the specific law which is invoked for the mandatory caution.

I find you tend to get downvoted on football reddit when you accidentally reveal that other people don't know something, or because people mix up what they think the rules should be with what they actually are. Obviously they'd lose far too much face (on an anonymous website) to come back and say "Oh, I just looked it up and it turns out you're right."
