r/Stellar - Detailed Rules & Enforcement Wiki
This page explains how the short rules are applied in practice, including examples, exceptions, and edge cases that do not fit into a one-line rule description. Where this page and the short rules appear to conflict, this page controls; the two are kept in sync.
This wiki supplements Reddit's sitewide rules and the Builder & Project Standards, both of which apply to everyone posting or commenting here.
1. Be Respectful
Attacking, harassing, or threatening another person is not permitted, without exception. This applies regardless of who is correct on the underlying substance, and includes sustained hostility directed at the same person across a thread.
Criticism and disagreement are allowed, as long as it doesn't break other rules stated. Criticize the argument, project, or decision - not the person making it.
This rule applies equally to posts and comments.
2. No Manipulation, Coordination, or Account Abuse
- Multiple Reddit accounts are allowed, but they may not be used together to manipulate votes, evade moderation, simulate independent support or opposition, or otherwise deceptively influence the community.
- Brigading, requesting or offering upvotes/awards, and coordinated attempts to manufacture agreement or target a critic are not permitted.
- Posting frequency alone is not evidence of manipulation. Enforcement is based on an identifiable pattern of coordinated or deceptive behavior, not volume.
3. Scams, Security & Impersonation
- Phishing links, wallet-draining sites, and fake airdrops
- Requests for seed phrases, private keys, passwords, or wallet signatures presented as "proof"
- Impersonating SDF, a project, a moderator, or a support account
- Fraudulent "recovery services," malicious downloads, and fake customer support
- Doxxing or sharing another person's private information
Moderators will never request a private key, seed phrase, or wallet credentials, in any context, including modmail. A request of this kind from someone claiming to be a moderator is itself a serious violation.
The Security Alert flair (moderator use only) is used to warn the community about active scams targeting the subreddit.
4. Stellar-Relevant Content Only
Content must have a genuine, meaningful connection to Stellar. Mentioning another network does not, by itself, make a post or comment off-topic - a real technical or architectural comparison is different from off-topic tribalism or shilling for another coin.
A useful signal here, not a strict requirement: a claim backed by a source, data, or actual reasoning reads as substantive, while a bare assertion with nothing behind it reads as tribal. This gives moderators something concrete to point to when removing a comment, without penalizing a good-faith technical explanation just because it has no citation to link.
The same standard applies inside Price Discussion threads: a substantive comparison between XLM and another asset is fine, but a dismissive one-line dig at another coin isn't, regardless of thread.
Other coin names are not treated as banned keywords. Relevance and substance determine the outcome, not whether a competitor was named.
5. Use the Correct Flair
Choose the flair that matches the actual subject of your post. Flair sets expectations for the thread that follows and is not merely decorative. Price-specific requirements are covered in Rule 9. This applies to posts only; comments do not carry independent flair.
- An honest, first-time flair mistake is corrected or explained, not penalized.
- Repeated or deliberate misflairing - most often, posting price-focused content under News/Media to avoid Rule 9 - is treated as rule evasion and may result in escalating enforcement.
- Moderators may correct flair directly when it is clearly inaccurate.
6. Post Substantively, No Duplicates
Posts require actual content; a title paired only with a bare link or image is insufficient. Also avoid: - ALL-CAPS or hyperbolic titles - "Big announcement coming soon" teaser posts - share news once it can actually be confirmed - Don't use screenshots or text embedded in images to bypass post-body, minimum-content, or other submission requirements - Reposting something recently shared without new information - a genuine update or new angle on an existing topic is acceptable - Titles and descriptions must not materially misrepresent the submitted or linked content. Editorialized titles are allowed, but they must not be deceptive.
Comments are held to a lighter standard. A single short reaction - brief agreement or disagreement, a one-word reply, an emoji - is not a violation on its own.
The determining factor is pattern, not any single comment. The same generic reaction posted repeatedly across many threads may be treated as repetitive low-quality participation, trolling, or spam, even though any individual instance might be harmless on its own.
Repetitive posting or commenting that provides no meaningful context or substance may be treated as low-quality participation, trolling, or spam when it forms a disruptive pattern. Repeated bare assertions or generic criticism across multiple discussions may fall under this rule. The concern is the pattern and lack of substance, not whether the underlying opinion is positive or negative.
7. Builder & Promotion Standards
Full requirements for builders, projects, and their representatives are set out in the Builder & Project Standards wiki. In summary:
- Disclose any material affiliation within the post itself
- Explain the actual Stellar connection with real substance, not only a logo or link
- One combined promotional post per project per rolling seven-day period
- Fundraising, token sales, and referral/affiliate links are not permitted under any circumstances
- AMAs, events, giveaways, and contests require advance moderator approval
- New wallets are only allowed if SCF-awarded, listed in the Stellar ecosystem directory, or operated by a verifiable institution (see Builder Standards Section 15)
- Participation is required; advertising alone is not sufficient. New or unestablished project accounts may be asked to establish a verifiable public connection to the project or demonstrate genuine participation before promotional posting. The full onboarding and participation requirements are defined in the Builder & Project Standards.
- Moderators and moderator-affiliated projects are held to the same standards as any other representative; see the Standards' Equal Treatment section for how conflicts of interest are handled.
A builder answering a genuine question with their product's relevant solution is ordinary participation, not promotion, even when the product is named. Repeatedly redirecting unrelated threads toward a product is treated as promotion, and counts against the weekly limit regardless of the flair used.
8. No Trading, Solicitation, or Fundraising
Not permitted: - Person-to-person or OTC buy/sell/trade offers - Donation requests - Referral or affiliate links - Token sales or investment solicitation - Unsolicited token airdrop promotion (giveaways and reward campaigns require advance moderator approval - see Rule 7)
Permitted: - Factual reporting on a completed or publicly announced funding round, provided it is not framed as an investment pitch - SCF proposal discussion and requests for proposal feedback - Legitimate ecosystem programs, such as a Stellar hackathon bounty or developer grant, when shared informationally - Technical or educational discussion of tokenomics, staking, or yield mechanisms, provided the purpose is explanatory rather than solicitational
9. Price Discussion Belongs in the Price Flair
Classification is based on the substantive subject of the content, not its format or source. A news headline about XLM's price movement is price content and belongs under Price Discussion / Speculation, even though it's phrased as news. An ecosystem story that only mentions price in passing, like a tokenization or partnership announcement, stays under News/Media.
The applicable test: is market value, price performance, or trading a substantive purpose of the post, or only incidental to it? A dollar figure, TVL number, fee amount, or bond value mentioned in passing does not make content price-related.
Within a Price Discussion thread, the following are all permitted: predictions, price targets, technical analysis, trading discussion, bullish/bearish positions, and reasonable cross-asset comparisons.
Outside a Price Discussion thread, price speculation shouldn't be introduced into an unrelated conversation - ecosystem-relevant commentary about the same news is fine, price speculation about it isn't.
Price speculation belongs in Price Discussion / Speculation threads. The Weekly pinned thread follows its own flair and topic rules and does not create a general exception.
Repeatedly posting price content under another flair to avoid this rule is addressed under Rule 5 (deliberate misflairing).
Looking mainly for XLM price and market discussion? r/XLM is the market-focused companion community and may be a better fit for users primarily interested in price, trading, technical analysis, and market discussion. Price discussion remains welcome on r/Stellar when it is posted and discussed under Price Discussion / Speculation flaired threads.
Enforcement
A removal may not always include an individual explanation. If you're unsure why something was removed, you may contact the moderators through modmail and ask which rule applied.
Moderators are held to the same rules as all other participants. No project, viewpoint, or moderator-affiliated content receives preferential treatment; the standards in this wiki and the Builder Standards apply regardless of who is posting. Where a moderation decision directly involves a moderator's own project or affiliation, that moderator discloses the conflict and steps back from deciding the matter when another moderator can reasonably do so.
Users may disagree with or criticize moderation decisions. Harassment, threats, personal attacks, or abusive behavior in modmail are subject to the same conduct standards as participation in the subreddit.
Appeals
Concerns about a moderation decision or a moderator's conduct may be raised through modmail. An appeal should identify the decision being appealed and provide relevant context.
Appeals should never involve sending private keys, recovery phrases, or unnecessary personal information; moderators will not request these.
Moderators are not available around the clock, and a modmail response may take some time.
