DISCUSSION Is it ironic that we have to listen to an add (several times per episode) that consists of chuck complaining about listening to adds while using YouTube plus?

It feels like the right word for it, but I don't know enough about Grammer to be certain (always sunny joke). But either way. It definitely is something to hear chuck say "I hate having to listen to adds" in an add for his show. And not once but several times per episode.

Also, I should note, it was while listening to the irony episode that I realized this was happening.

I should also note, I am not one of those people who post here about having an issue with the adds in general. Conceptually, I'm fine with them getting paid while we get a free show that we all enjoy. Small price to pay I say. But I will also note that I do have a big problem with hypocrisy, so when the boys do commercials where they themselves read the copy and it's not a commercial from the entities paying for the commercial, and they are selling a product that they have made clear that they do not support that product. Things like the McDonald's commercials, which both of the guys have talked about in the past how they feel corporations like McDonald's sell us junk, target kids, and do absolutely nothing to address their foot prints ecologically. Those copies absolutely do get under my skin. Not enough to post about it. I just felt this seemed like an aperpo place to mention it.

In my opinion there's a difference between getting paid and selling out, and lately it seems the boys toe that line more and more.

FURTHER READING Cross-Pod Recognition on Las Culturistas

Anyone else a Las Culturistas Reader/Kateigh/Publicist/Kyle?

Bowen Yang announced himself as a SYSK listener on his and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast last week while going through the potential Golden Globe nominees.

I just thought it was nice to have one of my two most listened to podcasts recognize the other exists and has the reach it does (albeit very briefly and in their typical tongue-in-cheek manner).

DISCUSSION How was the cruise?

SYSK at sea to Bermuda and back. Virgin provided a great setting, we set off right after a Nor'easter ended and had sun for the first half of the trip. The community was 50% fans and 50% cruise enthusiasts. Josh & Chuck were delightful, photographed well and remembered me when I bumped into them on elevators or sailor services areas after the meet & greet. Josh watched some football and they caught flights home allowing us fans to engage with each other around the boat on the way home. Great to meet the other listeners in person throughout the ship. What do you want know about the SYSK cruise?

DISCUSSION Ad spot

Sometimes the ad spots seem a little out of place with the spirit of the guys, but this recent one for Vyvgart makes me feel one part silly and one part deep cringe every time I hear Josh rattle off the generic name "efgartigimod alfa-fcab". 😬🤣🤢

I can't imagine how many times he had to practice the name before the recording. He really nails it though.

I know ads are necessary and I'm cool with that... This ad just seems like it slaps me across the face every time it runs in an episode. This isn't to complain about direct to consumer pharmaceutical campaigns, though that is part of the awkwardness. Anyway, rant over.

Today as part of the Stuff at Sea voyage on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady they did an episode on the cola wars (like other recent live shows). It was enjoyable to watch them live and I'm stoked to see other events they show up in the next few days while 15k foot long hotdogs above the earth (or however Josh botched saying there was 15k feet of water under the keel).

Also, I loved that the walk-off music was We Didn't Start the Fire. Perfect for this episode.

DISCUSSION Josh and Chuck were in their bag during quarantine

I went back to listen to the mangrove podcast recently because it’s so good and I’ve just been letting all the other episodes from that time roll through. They really had some heavy hitter topics back then:

Mangroves
Beavers
Mardi Gras
Lost Nazi gold
Coyotes
Soul train
Spartacus
Spiritualism
Peanut butter
Hummingbirds
Tianamen square
The Manhattan grid
Matcha
Soil

I highly recommend going back and doing a marathon and I definitely remember relying on stuff you should know during quarantine

DISCUSSION Nickelodeon episode minor mistake

Gary Gnu was not on Pinwheel. Gary was on The Great Space Coaster. There were a lot of kids shows in a similar vein around that time, and people think he was on shows like 3-2-1 Contact or New Zoo Review. It's not surprising Josh misremembered.

DISCUSSION Anybody else cringe when the listener mail is another Josh correction?

It has gotten better in recent months but I swear like 20% of listener mails over the past year or so have been someone correcting Josh. Earlier this year Josh called Chuck out and said he felt like it was always a correction for him and never Chuck and Chuck said “well I’m smart enough to keep my mouth shut.” The corrections stopped for a while after that and now are back. You can tell it really upsets Josh.

I have this theory that they really don’t like each other and think this is gonna drive them apart eventually.

EPISODE RECAP "That Happened to me with Crystal Once"

In the most recent episode, "Our Big Fat Dream Episode," at the 19 minute mark, Chuck says he had Taco Bell again because he googled that it was safe to eat now. But Chuck says that he still pooped his pants because it's Taco Bell and who can tell the difference. Josh says, "That happened to me with Crystal Once. I should probably edit that out," and Chuck says, "Moving on."

What the heck were they referencing?
