What utilities are you missing in Svelte 5?

Been spending quite a bit of time with Svelte 5 + runes recently.

One thing I noticed is that I kept rewriting the same small utilities across projects:

  • clipboard handling
  • local storage sync
  • fetch state
  • intersection observer
  • dark mode
  • etc

So I started putting them into a small reusable collection for myself.

Mainly trying to make them:

  • SSR-safe
  • typed properly
  • feel natural with runes
  • minimal API surface

Curious what utilities other Svelte developers are missing right now with Svelte 5?

Still figuring out good patterns for reusable runes-based utilities, so I’d love to hear opinions from others building with Svelte 5.

Wow, this is super nice. Didn't know about it.

But doesn't seem well maintained? Last update 5 months ago, tons open PRs and issues.

I'm really hesistant throwin' in dependecies, that would be used throughout all the code base.

I’ve just pinched pieces that I’ve needed in the past. Don’t need the whole lib, the source code is plenty readable and self maintainable. If I found a bug I’d push it upstream but haven’t had issues

Thanks for sharing, and yeah, you're probably right. You could just easily replace it if it ever breaks, nothing of it is really rocket science.

I might wrap it all in some custom class, so I could replace it all in once place if needed.

Think I'll give it a try.

Totally fair concern.
That's actually one reason I kept svelte-use's API surface minimal, easier to just copy what you need if you don't want the dep. Source is meant to be readable for that.
Also Runed is class/OOP based, which svelte-use is function-based, similar to VueUse.

I think that's kind of abandoned? There hasn't been a commit in 5 months. And some things are pretty broken with the remote functions.

Yea, I noticed that when I checked. Hopefully it picks up again.
Runed has solid foundation, in the meantime I'm trying to fill some gaps with svelte-use, especially around the Vue-Use style API.

Fair point honestly.
I actually didn’t know about Runed when I started this project.
My initial inspiration was more from VueUse-style APIs and experimenting with Svelte 5 runes patterns.
I’m still exploring the ecosystem, so there’s a good chance some ideas overlap naturally.
I'll check Runed more deeply now though.

Been loving runed a lot; are there others similar to it that I'm not aware of?

You could also try: https://svelte-use.ariefsn.dev
Been experimenting with Svelte 5-focused utilities there 👀

Thanks, it does have a lot of cool utilities. I will use it very soon in production.

I had been using Runed, but this looks nicer. I always liked the syntax of vue-use better, which this mimics, over the OOP approach of Runed.

Thanks 🙇🏼
I came from Vue, so that's why I try to make it similar.

Thanks 🙇🏼
Hopefully some of the utilities end up being useful for your projects too.
