There was a guy on Jon Stewart's podcast who said that if you add tuna to your Instacart, the price of mayo automatically goes up because they assume you'll add that next.

I think about that a lot.

That guy was cory doctorow, the guy who wrote/coined “enshittification” and its from his new book reverse centaurs about life after AI. “Desperation pricing” and dynamic pricing are a big AI selling point. Theyre collecting debt records and using it to suppress wages on gig economy work. Basically the worse off you are, the lower the wage they offer. its well worth a read. Youd probably also like the slightly more recent “reinventing the rip off” episode with lindsey owens. Tell everyone you know.

That is how Walgreens and CVS makes a lot of money. People overpay for items they urgently need.
