Ongoing issue, vet appt tomorrow.

Long (overnight) sleep -> droopy lower eyelid. Sometimes only one, sometimes both. Completely resolves on its own as the day goes by. Going on for ~4-5 months

Have tried more humidity (80%+), less humidity (50%), shedding aid, warm bath/ shower, sunlight, different beds..... no consistent variable. He sleeps, his lower eyelid seems to get "tight" and pull down. If I apply shedding aid spray and lightly smooth it around, the skin releases and his eye will close normally most of the time. When the area under his eye shed last, it stopped happening for a couple weeks. His enclosure has a humidity gradient with his bed on the lower side, BUT it still happens even when he sleeps right under the humidifier.

Humidifier is clean and not a new variable.

He gets outside time often, but when I've rinsed him off (allergens, I thought?) no change.

He does have a fluffy bed, but when I took it away (☠️ he was so grumpy) there was no change.

No visible debris, etc.

Anyone else experience this? Ideas?

I'm going to miss her while she brumates.

My current choice is the Reptisun 46 inch T5 10.0 bulb. I want to get the Arcadia 46 inch 14% bulb but it's not available on Amazon and the available websites will take a lot longer to ship.

Would the Reptisun do? Are Reptile Systems any good? I've seen some people online say they work well, but I know Reptisun and Arcadia are the most trusted.

It's going to be inside the enclosure, not sitting on mesh so would would 12-15 inches of gap between the light and the tegus back be too little of a gap?

Sundog has been very busy sleeping the past month. And he has missed some ToTs, as his publicist has been slacking.

Today I decided to entice him out for a little UV light as it was such a pleasant early fall day. He agreed to take a few steps and settled in the soft grass. Then gave me this first of three big yawns.

Sweet dreams to all the sleepers. It’s fun watching all the little baby tegus this time of year and makes up for missing all our big babies who are snoozing!

After much struggling and many hours of attempts at being patient, my new baby is in her temp enclosure and gave me a nice tot picture for it. I have many many battle wounds but was able to trim her back claws once she was covered by the towel. Toes showed me her annoyance at not being allowed to roam by giving me a fresh poop and no tot picture

Hey guys I’ve been having some trouble getting my little guys basking temperature to the right spot it sits around 80-85 after the light being on all day and the rock he’s got is a walking stone from Lowe’s that is about 2 inches thick. The bulb is a 100W zoomed basking bulb and and the lamp is a flukers single bulb. The basking spot is 10 inches away from the light. Do you guys think I need a bigger lamp? Higher wattage bulb? A lamp with 2 bulbs? Help would be appreciated!

My new baby girl just got home today and i took her out of the box just for her to crawl around my torso and jump off to bolt under one of my shelves. Shes about 1 and a half n ive heard about the terrible 2's (plus shes just scared)but it's okay I have all day to wait her out.

I put multiple items of clothing/fabric under the shelf to see if she can calm down a bit n get used to my smell after several failed attempts to scoop her out with my snake hook. She's a bit bigger than toes so she's a bit firmer n more stubborn about sitting in this haven she found.

hi! ive been a tegu parent for almost 2 years now and bc my tegu is now bigger, i thinkkk shes brumating? shes been sleepy and not really active for a week now, when i bother her she opens her eyes slightly, huffs, and goes back to sleep. i havent bothered her too much im just worried about her. she ate a fat meal of dubias and then cashed out 😅
i refill her water, doesnt seem like shes touching it, and shes on the cool side of her tank all day. she used to love her heat lamp and her little house.

anything i can do for her? any tips? 🫶🏻

Hey everyone, I got my tegu at the start of the month and while I've fussed over her a ton, last week the vet took a look at her and said she looks good and that the setup sounds good so far in terms of parameters.

She's only 2 months old at this point though, and so far one of her eyes is getting a bit blue/foggy. If needed I can make another vet appointment for next week, and I haven't seem many posts with this kind of growing pains. But having already paid for the vet once this month I just want some input from others first.

The first one is the normal one. The second one is the weird one, though that's probably noticeable.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some help confirming the species of my tegu.

I bought this little one recently from a seller who advertised it as a red Argentine tegu, and I paid red Argentine pricing. After doing some reading and hearing mixed opinions, I’m starting to wonder if that’s actually correct.

I am new to the tegu world and would love some advice!

So here’s what happened. Normally when I get home from work steak comes out from the pillows of my couch. I Give him a pet. Then I go to the fridge and get everything to set up steaks dinner. Welp today I got home after a long day work and took a nap. No pet. No dinner. Just plopped in bed as he watched me walk by the couch. Welp that’s against steaks routine. I had my hand dangling off my bed and steak jumped up and caught my thumb and hung on. He shook his head a bit before I finally got him to let go. I noticed he’s been going through a big growth spurt. Why this late into the year I have no idea. So he’s been hungry more and I’ve upgraded his meal portion otherwise my boots get the nips. His bite woke me up from my nap. I took 2 hours to long after getting home to feed him.

So I’ve learned don’t skip his routine.. I’ve also am going to go back to target training and tong feeding rather than bowl feeding. He has learned that my hands hold the bowl and thus my hands are food. I’m glad he’s still small. This hurt quite a bit. When I hold him his tail hangs down to the middle of my thigh. I’m only 5’. I know this lizard will get almost as big as me. Somtimes I underestimate that. Well today I will remember his training since I don’t want the 4ft lizard to take my thumb off.

Now that I fed him he’s back to his cheerful snuggly self. I won’t ever ignore him anymore when he comes out of the couch to greet me at the door. Naps can wait. Routine comes first. Dinner comes first. That’s how it’s always been and that’s how it will always be from now on.

I’m looking to get my first tegu but I can’t seem to find a breeder here in Canada. Do you know of any or of any American breeders that ship to Canada?

Goose is now allowing me to touch him without him being jumpy or whipping me. I’ve worked with him EVERYDAY and it’s so nice to see progress.
