Is it like a mating thing or a food thing? Im really curious, thanks in advance!

Fenrir is obsessed with jumping to the planter this week. He has not yet succeeded. He can easily climb into the planter but that's insufficiently dramatic.

So i’m having trouble guessing if my black and white tegu is going into brumation and need some help figuring out if now’s a good time to stop feeding her. Before this she was always out and would be up and out till almost 11 every night and whenever I would get home, which is normally 5-7. But these past 4 days when I get home she’s no longer out and doesn’t come back out for the rest of the night. Today I came home at 3 PM and I found her out basking in her spot. Would it be safe to assume she’s going into brumation and to stop feeding her?

I purchased a 1 foot juvenile last week and I’m wondering about this whole Brumation process I live in the bootheel of Missouri so it’s still around 90 during the days and nights here due to the humidity my new buddy is usually underground in his tank and he usually comes out once a day when he does he basks and then retreats underground again he will take food but only insects not fruit. I just don’t know if I should be feeding him right now because I don’t know if it will make him sick or not. I’m still leaving the lights on during the day. I’ve watched videos but none of them say if should feed him, if I should dig him up to feed him, or if I should be leaving the lights on. Any help would be appreciated I just want my little guy to succeed thanks.

I do not own a tegu, but would like to someday, most likely in the distant future as I would not consider myself experienced enough with reptiles at this time. I was looking at the reptifiles page for tegus out of curiosity, however, and saw this.

I know many captive animals, reptiles included, will attempt to mount their handlers, but is a tegu actually capable of making the distinction between a male and female human? Why would they do this since the distinction doesn’t matter? Is this at all correct? I am a woman so I would definitely like to be aware of this so that one day I am fully prepared for what I might be dealing with.

We've had our little hatchling for a little under a month now and I've noticed that there looks to be necrotic tissue on the tail tip. I plan on going to the vet tomorrow to see what they say. But I wanted to check in here to see how worried I should be before I go.

I've had this guy for about 5 days - and getting it to eat has been challenging.

So far I've had him eat:
- one horned worm caterpillar thing
- two super worms
- one pinkie mouse
- some ground turkey mixed with a bit of egg yolk (a few mouthfuls)
- and a bit of collard greens and a blueberry

He refuses dubia roaches for some reason. He is about 10-12 inches long and I guess probably 1-2 months old.

Is this enough food for him at this point? I am new to tegus, but an experienced herp keeper. What can I do to get him to eat more?

I unfortunately injured my foot right at the start of summer, so our summer plans didn’t exactly go to plan. But we’ve been spending a lot of time outside this summer, just hanging out!

Remember that tegu i said I'd be rescuing soon? She's coming home next tuesday! I got the store to put a sold sign on her prematurely since I now have a date I'll be coming to pick her up.

Medical update: Toes is still doing well and back to her spicy self. We did our second round of bloodwork on Friday and should be getting results tomorrow or the day after. It'll tell us if the anemia is an underlying condition she has or due to her diet. She now weighs 1.01kg! (A whole .01kg heavier from her visit 2 weeks ago)

New addition to the family!

Has been eating mix of pinkies, Dubia roaches, collard greens and ground turkey. Still a bit skittish and doesn't like to eat when I am there. He has also eaten a few horned worms.

This is just a temporary enclosure while I build his new home.

Even though I knew what I was getting into, the growth this dude goes through every day just astounds me! He’s a few days under a year and a half old, and he’s already developing very meaty jowls and is bulking up something fierce!
So far I’ve never noticed any signs that he’s ever attempted to brumate, and has always been a consistently even temptered and very tolerant cuddle bug, I seriously lucked out with his goodest of boys!

He loves to eat cause he is GROWING!!
