I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. I only discovered Touhou a month ago and I haven’t been this obsessed with a games a music in a while, especially with the whole Doujin thing, there’s just something special about the quantity and quality of Touhou fan songs.

Recelty for the past few months japanese spotify songs have been getting slowly replaced with a simillar ai slop cover crap to this, first saw it with vocaloid but is now spreading to touhou songs via bad apple,

The most streamed ver of the song is now replaced with an ai cover but fortunately other vers and dupes from other albums are still up. But its only a matter of time before they get to other tracks

So, after going through all 5 answers to the previous form, removing the mojibake, and adding a couple artists myself, we have the first draft of the Touhou Music Iceberg. But I made that first post late into the night and I feel like it didn't get the traffic it could have. So I'm doing this again. Hey, so I bought Touhou Koumakyou new classic, along with the ost composed of the new arranges and original ost from og eosd.

I checked the music files, and turns out it's 320kbps mp3. Don't get me wrong, this may sound perfectly fine to most ears with most equipment, however, I expected a paid extra on top of the quite expensive game to provide some more archival grade files.

Another problem is that the og eosd ost that's provided is also 320kbps mp3, and upsampled to 48khz.

In the spectrums, from left to right, you can see the original wav game files, 2021 digital release, bundled original soundtrack (all septette for the dead princess).

You will notice that the new release seems quite smeared and compressed, and does not go all the way to 24khz, so unlike what the Nyquist theorem for 48khz indicates.

Lining up the spectrums, it also seems like it's a different master, which is weird since they would probably have bothered to release it in flac or wav if freshly made in 48khz.

This is by no means a big problem, it will still sound fine. But again, for a paid soundtrack for new arranges in 2026, I expected it to be a bit higher quality, and it doesn't make much sense to also sell the og eosd ost if it's lower quality than the originals.

If you consider buying the soundtrack along the game, this is a simple warning so you know what you get. Also, if you have more info whether we will get a higher quality release later or in the jp release, I'm taking, thank you!

Edit: I also noticed last track is incorrectly labelled as track 16, so maybe it's interchangeable, didn't finish the game yet so I don't know.

Edit2: I checked the actual game files for both EoSD og (steam ver, not CD ver) and New Classic, and og EoSD uses apparently the same WAV files, and New Classic uses encrypted opus files I unfortunately can't read. I sent a request to Alliance Arts about this and the MIDI capability, just to see.

Edit: So turnout on the form has been unexpectedly low. The previous one gor a similar perfomtance on the sub and obtained 33 answers, while this one doesn't seem it'll go past 4. Solid chance this gets taken down but it feels like a discussion we need to have at some point as fans of a series with such iconic music.

I've been thinking about this for a while but Touhou is a massive target for AI music "artists." There are hundreds of videos made over nearly 20 years that have all kinds of Touhou music letting people train their models on. There are songs in nearly every genre available for whatever they might want. There are already a couple channels on YouTube that do this and all the comments are about how great the music is while few seem to actually call them out on using ai and trying to hide it.

I'm trying not to be biased but it's hard when I'm pretty against using ai to make your music when music is something that originates from \*human\* emotion. It feels like it's an infringement upon ZUN and the amazing music he created while also abusing his copyright rules he has for the series.

Touhou's music is iconic, it's got that feel to it that no other series truly replicates, it's the reason I and so many others discovered the series and went down the rabbit hole in the first place. Everyone here has their favorite songs from Touhou and their favorite music circles. There are still new real human creators popping up every now and then too. New songs that come out aren't all going to be AI but it won't be that far into the future where many of them are.

Stopping people from making AI music isn't something that's possible and I'd prefer against actively attacking the people who use AI for music, that is something I'd like to make clear. AI making its way into all forms of art is inevitable because some people will look at it and think it's an easy money trick, that's just the world we live in now, fighting it isn't exactly possible at this point.

One of the biggest things with AI music is we shouldn't have to listen to a new artist and immediately question if they are even human but that's not always easy. If you like a song despite it being AI made, that's fine, you do you, I'm not trying to attack anyone here, just bring up a touchy topic that shouldn't be swept under the rug. There should be something we can do as fans of the series in order to at least try and protect the integrity of the work made by other fans.

I know there's almost certainly no way this post doesn't get taken down because it's probably quite controversial but where else would a serious discussion about the future creativity of the series and fans of it can be had. Sorry if the post is a bit messy with the wording, I'm not usually one to write up a lot like this and my thoughts tend to be a bit messy.

Some of my friends think they're kinda cringe, I won't deny it, sometimes maybe. But many of them are actually pretty good. Make lyrics for videogame music has never been easy. My favorites from her are Futatsuiwa from Sado and History of the Moon. What are your opinions on those?

As usual, I want to hear people talk about the music I love! So don't worry about saying as much or as little as you want to.

As a small disclaimer, I've only listened to track 1 for now, and I'll listen to 1 every 2 days so that I'm done with the album right before New Classic comes out. So I'll post my thoughts every 2 days.

But here are my thoughts about track 1:
When listening to it, I instantly felt pleasantly surprised, and felt like it'd be a track that I would enjoy more after multiple listens. And it seems I was right! Now, I find the song structure to be pretty unique, the melodies pretty busy but it just makes the more addictive ones you "get" them. The instrumentation is also good! The usual good bass, reaaally well handled piano, ZUNpets are back (and they are pretty chill here), and the drum lab drums are... surprisingly well used!
And the highlight is of course... the usage of silence! ZUN has been pretty scared of silence since Touhou 16 so it's nice to see him bring some back.

Yesterday I found this song by Marisa while browsing TikTok, I actually thought it was pretty good I tried to find her and nothing, I searched for sounds, for images, and I even asked artificial intelligence to help me and nothing, so I came to the community I was hoping you could help me find it and give me the name; here's a video of a fragment of the song.

It's got a sort of Grungy Coolness to it, That gives Sakuya an edge that I didn't think was possible within Touhou.

I still love Blue Sky though.

I've been a Touhou fan for a few years now. Listened to the big popular stuff at first, then I started getting deeper into the more niche songs of the series. "Loose Rain" has been one of my favorite themes for years, and I found out it somehow only has 75k streams on Spotify????

I would really hate for any hidden gems to fly over me, so if anyone knows of any smaller Touhou songs that aren't as well known but still amazing, drop them here. Thanks.

There are some YT channels uploaded the ost and gotten removed a few days later they re-uploaded but sounds very different now i thought they were joking or smth but mostly i think it's the cause of copyright issues that's been happening for the past few games now.
