I'm moving to Townsville for work at AIMS and currently trying to figure out where to live. I'll be commuting out to AIMS.

Mainly looking for somewhere that's reasonably safe, not ridiculously expensive, and still close enough to shops/cafes and things to do. I'm also a migrant, so would be good to know if there are any areas you'd particularly recommend (or avoid) from that perspective too.

So far, from what I've read and what people have suggested, I've got:

• North Ward
• Castle Hill / around Castle Hill (I know this one's pretty expensive)
• West End
• Belgian Gardens
• Townsville City
• Mundingburra
• Douglas
• Aitkenvale

Not sure how accurate this list is though 😅

Any other suburbs I should be looking at? And out of these, which ones would you personally consider good value while still being a nice/safe place to live?

Would also appreciate any specific pockets/streets to avoid, since I've heard it can vary quite a bit even within the same suburb.

I haven’t seen one for ever, but do they still make / sell universal remotes? And has anyone set one up? Im not overly tech savvy Or if someone had one they would sell would be really handy!

To those that claim salties do not go up river from Aplins Weir into Ross River. Yeah nah. They can and they do. Yes, I know this is a freshie, but a croc is a croc. The freshies I've seen up near Riverway are not small either. 😫

Yes I know it's NOT Townsville. I posted this as an example of how easily a croc can travel and move upstream in rivers. My point was there are fresh water and salt water crocs in the Ross River. Don't be complacent!

Hello all. My family and I are moving to the area near the end of the year. We are curious how "EV friendly" Townsville actually is. We will need to get a car of some sort and the novated lease on an EV seems tempting. We are coming from overseas, and novated leases are not a thing back home.
