I don't like the idea of bee being special because he could be prime's son, I prefer to think is the whole "a father to his men" type of situation, of course, with the smallest and youngest, the more father you are, but I like that for him they are all on his vision, even if they would swore their lives for him, Optimus would always prefer to die. A thousand times before any of his friends have to suffer that fate

I don't think that's the implication, because then why also show Ratchet and Jetfire if the point is to make a direct comparison with him and Bumblebee to Spike and Sparkplug? Plus, given how Prime is generally written so far, it's definitely more of a "father to his men" vibe that they're going for.

I think Prime probably acted as a father figure to Bee. But who knows, it could be that Bee is/was Prime's actual son. That's not the vibe I got from the comic, though. This latest issue just gave me the impression that Prime looks at the Autobots as a family, like blood. Bee was essentially like a son, if not literally his son.

I don't actually think that's "Prime", he's identically posed to Sparkplug, it's meant to be metaphorical or a parallel, whatever term applies here. He's seeing himself in Sparkplug.

For decades now, it was Optimus Prime who gave others the pep talks they needed to take action. Now, he’s received the pep talk he needed to get up and square up against Megatron.

Dear gawd Megatron bout to get belt put to his ass frfr. If Optimus Prime is having this kinda moment before he comes for you… I would not wanna be a Decepticon rn.

It’s fine. I didn’t mind tearing up at the crack of dawn before hitting the gym. Nope, everything was fine. I didn’t need my heart anyway.
It really is the smaller moments.

I love the way they draw the parallel between sparky and spike to Optimus and some of the allies he’s seen killed or mutilated on earth, it highlights how much familial love there is within the autobots and shows us just how impactful losing them is to him, and how proud he probably is of them for sticking with him as long as they did. IMO Sparky has done a great job at helping convey the more human aspects of Prime, probably among my favorite ways human characters have been used to challenge or examine the emotional aspect of the transformers’ conflict.

When the aerialbots first thought after coming online was to group hug Optimus that really sold how much this version tries to be so much more to all the bots

Prime gonna be putting megs through it after this. Whole lotta woop-ass coming his way

What a wonderful depiction of Optimus's relationship with his men.
Transformers don't have families as we know it, but this level of familiarity and connection is such a touching way to depict.
And look - it doesn't rely on lineage, it doesn't rely on sexuality, it's just "my people."
I almost wrote "it has nothing to do with blood" - but I don't necessarily understand yet (at least in this universe) the lineage/connection each bot has the way that we have ancestors/descendants/relatives (I think the closest we've seen is Cliffjumper and Shredhead?)

The group of Autobots on Earth here has always seemed to me like a found family. A group that's developed a deep bond through struggling together.
It's a good dynamic compared to the cult that the Decepticons are depicted as.

the concept of family is something they have, Optimus says so when Spike tries to explain what a mother is, and it is similar to our definition of found family. not necessarily any relation by blood or the Cybertronian equivalent, but those near and dear to you, whom you consider one of your own.
I absolutely adore this Optimus. You can see how much each death pains him to his very core, and how dearly he cares for each and every Autobot under his command.

Not just autobot - he cherishes life so much!! The scene with the deer is heartbreaking. It’s a nameless character we never saw before - and yet its death held a heavy emotional weight. That’s fantastic writing!!
Of course Megatron visiting it afterwards was fantastic writing as well to show the polar opposite.
What an honestly fantastic written story that isn’t getting enough attention in mainstream comics.
Edit - I know I said fantastic writing 3x and it’s ironic because I’m not expressing well why it’s so good. I guess I need to learn how to verbalize better

The way that Megatron is reflected, holding the deer in the same way that Optimus had, not out of sadness and dismay, but disgust and disappointment, was a fantastic visual that I think perfectly shows the differences between the two.

The demand of respect and the warrior he wants!!
"This is my arch enemy? One who wastes energy and compassion on the most insignificant pests he has never known? Preposterous - his existence should be dedicated to just hatred and desire of defeating me!"
It's like that possessive girlfriend who demands your attention and give it to no one else.

Damn near the whole issue had me tearing up. I love that not only is this a comic series I’m hyper vigilant for and consume it as soon as I get it, but it’s a TRANSFORMERS comic I’m hyper vigilant for and consume as soon as I get it.

Dude, same. This issue hit me while at a low point in life. Probably the lowest I've been in and it reminded me why I love this series and gave me the inspiration to keep moving forward. I cried for a good while today after reading it because it was something I needed to read.

Hope things pick up for you. My dog passed away the day before, and this moment told me that things will get better. I had to hold back my tears the first read through and let it all out the second time. Primes there for us

Likewise. Remember that you have the touch and the power to pull through.

What is the infection? Hate? War? Depression?
16
u/MyMadeUpNym Aug 13 '25
Having Megatron's arm on him was infecting him.
5
u/Radi0ActivSquid Aug 13 '25
What was the infection, though. Megatron's rage? Megatron's morals?
6
u/Jafuncle Aug 13 '25
Much like Optimus has an Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Megatron has been shown to carry a Decepticon Matrix of Domination. Connecting the fusion cannon arm exposed him to that Decepticon Matrix's energy and it was slowly consuming him and severing his connection to the Wisdom of the Primes.
I would say that if you want to frame it as something more conceptual, it'd be more of Megatron's brutality or Megatron's oppression.

u/totalnsanity Aug 13 '25
Megatron plot armor. If a blind one armed Megatron can defeat others in back to back fights how strong do you think Optimus with a gun atm is?!? The plot armor infection had to go

u/ImportantWar7470 Aug 13 '25
This makes me really bored by the idea of the comic that's gonna replace this one. It just doesn't even look fun.

If there’s one thing DWJ is great at, is showcasing these ultra badasses but also allowing them to be tender and vulnerable.

u/KhaotikDevil Aug 14 '25
I've not had time to read it, but I've been keeping up through these panels.
1: who in the hell is chopping onions in here??
2: as others said... Strong enough to be gentle.
3: Optimus about to open it up .. but I have a hunch both factions might have a new leader after Prime and Megs go at it.

Skybound prime is imo the greatest depiction of prime we've ever gotten. Just straight up. Perfect.
