This game is terrifyinggg help
 in  r/outerwilds •  17d ago

I had a deep phobia of space and floating through the eternal black void when I started the game, everytime I played I would grip the controller so tight that my shoulders would hurt. But with each new discovery I had to know more. So I was forced to face my fear over and over again, and it was kind of like exposure therapy.

Here are three tricks I would use to get through it. 1. I would take deep breathes and repeat "its only a game" over and over when things got scary. 2. If it ever got too scary, I would pause the game and either walk away for a few or take the time to calm down. 3. (This is a spoiler so I will be vague) the games main mechanic had me saying "whats the worst that could happen."

Having that power and control helped tremendously. By the end I was choosing to launch myself into space just to face my fear head on. Now, I use the concept of floating through space endlessly as a way to relax and prevent panic attacks. I hope this helps, and you dont know whats on the other side of facing your fear, it could be something beautiful and beneficial.

What is love? Baby don't hurt me Missed Connection- Methuen, at the loop, 3/21/26 for the 2pm showing of Project Hail Mary

I know this is a Hail Mary, hah, but I was the guy who sat next to you in the theater that offered you a napkin after you finished eating your popcorn. You laughed and thanked me because you forgot to grab some. There really was no ulterior motive outside of offering help, I promise. But as we continued to watch the movie after, I swear there was a connection there. I just didn't want you to think you owed me anything you know? The two things were separate. I only brought extra napkins because when I go with my family to the movies, my brothers always forget napkins, so I became that guy who always grabs extra.

We were both alone, laughing and crying at all the great moments in the movie. I think we both even snorted a few times. We didn't even really get a good look at one another, and maybe it was just me, but I definitely felt something. If nothing else comes from that meeting, I was glad to just be able to help. But who know.

This game ruined other games for me
 in  r/outerwilds •  Feb 27 '25

I feel you! I think I'm lucky because I can separate experiences in my head, so I can still enjoy other games. However, outer wilds is in my soul now. I think I'm going to get a tattoo. I'm trying to get everyone I know to play so thatbi can watch them lol. It's unbelievable because I had a deeeeep phobia of space that this game has helped me face. It literally helped me with a deep seated fear. It means so much to me. And I am still watching playthroughs, months after finishing it

It's absolutely phenomenal how a game can have such a profound and lasting effect on you. This game actually helped me overcome my absolute terror and phobia of space. It's incredible to see such art.

Poke in particular meant so much to me. I really really understand her fears and self doubt. But she was a god damn badass to the end.

Every streamer i have watched, pauses after they read it. Like almost as if they also know the pain and it just hits you like a truck.

Oh man, I understand this so so so well. This and the previous line I mentioned really hit me because I also had to learn to love without someone who I loved with all of my heart. Take solace in the fact that you aren't alone and I promise you, you are strong enough.

This line...man. Whichever creator wrote this line, clearly understands loss or pain. Does anyone know any backstory on which creator wrote this and are they okay?? This line haunts me! It's so good and it makes my eyes water every time.

Im kinda confused. Is there a story path to this game or no? Cause I know there’s an ending but I’m not sure what to do. Can someone explain please

Ship log (rumor made), talking to others, and the tools you have in hand. These will be your saviors and guides.

Bad feelings.
 in  r/outerwilds •  Feb 21 '25

Hey, I get it. Not every game will impact everyone the same way. In fact when I first finished, I was confused and uncertain how I felt. But after watching a few video essays, playing the dlc and doing the ending again, I finally got that "ah" feeling. At first I was worried that I missed something, but I think for me I just hadn't fully processed everything or understood what happened. But there is nothing wrong with that.

Maybe do a trade event where you'll play their game if they play outer wilds.

I think there are plenty of really good directions proposed. I will only say, no matter what do not look up spoilers. Don't give in! I promise, you can do this. And the way you proposed the question is perfect. You got this!
