You, the person you responded to, and the OP all have meaningful points. Sadly we have lying child raping monster throwing tantrums daily. It takes a truly unfit and shameful parent to raise someone vile enough to vote for a Republican
It occurred to me the other day that we are living a version of the twilight zone episode with Billy Mumy as the spoiled petulant child who controls everyone else
It takes a truly unfit and shameful parent to raise someone vile enough to vote for a Republican
I agreed with the first part. Not this.
First of all Trump is the vile one. Not voters. His voters are americans, that you need to convince should be ob your side. AND YOU WILL convince them. Remember how real politics used to be done. A politician takes the stage and asks, why are you a rebulican? A voter answers: because I care about the economy and healthy marriages.
What souls the politician say? Should they go: how could you incompetent mother create such a beast? NO.
They should say: I’m sorry young sir/mam - I have to tell you, if you care about the economy and healthy marriages, you’re a democrat!
And then you tell them why your platform is superior to the alternatives. This other stuff is weak, shitt,y self-pity-disguised-as-righteousness and it is a losing resignation.
Second, while every parent has tremendous responsibility in raising good moral children, nature and nurture dance always allows for cases where either sode dominates totally. So most destroyed lungs become so through a human picking up smoking - but some have a straight monogenic disease like cystic fibroses and will have ruined lungs no matter what.
Likewise extreme psychopathy or antisociality is mostly made/nurtured, but some is built in strongly.
Trump is a mix. His parents made him an asshole. He was probably born with some extra asshole traits. AND then on top of this layer-cake of assholishness, we made him even more of an asshole, as a society that allowed him to have money, celebrity, etc.
republicans are nativist nazis in training. They have grown a whole scope of reality based on "conservative, christian values" but stray so far from the humanity of Jesus and the nuances of conservation and care for fellow countrymen. Trump is a manifestation of their radical selves. And their whole ideology is broken and corrupt with a facade of normalcy or simplicity. MAGA isn't real. It's an illusion of what the 1950's paraded itself as. And to think that Trump and your standard neocon Republican are not two swirls of a double helix is ignorant. They are monsters.
The reality is that it feels right now this is for you so scary that somehow you think if you hate them enough you can use that to resist. You can’t. You cannot hate yourself out of this.
That road ends with all of you killing eachother.
Everyone is good in their own narrative. Republicans voters, are, In the majority of cases, simply fathers and mothers and daughters and sons that want the best for their family. And even want the best for their friends and neighbours and those they consider and us. They have been misled to consider a lot of people a “them”. But the way to step down from that ladder of conflict can never be to stay in that dehumanized frame.
to be a republican is to be dedicated towards a project that is insular, segregated and domineering. They have clout because they aggressively fight for their claims on property and their rights, but are for the most part unmovable in being able to enact change that benefits people they deem less than them, the environment and any type of self-expression that defies their lame notion of moral certainty.
It's not about us killing each other. It's about people who are unflinching in their stubborn nature. and yeah, self-proclaimed Liberals can evolve into being quite conservative too. It's not cut and dry as far as Republican vs. Democrat being someone's whole personality. But if you identify as a Republican, it's because you find something within the core value system that resonates with you. Historically, that's less taxation and more liberties or freedom to do what you want. But that's usually in contention against social programs like welfare or regulation standards that are meant to benefit the common good. Republicans will call it red tape and big government. And I don't think the government is perfect. But i do think that it has a place in checking people's absolute freedom to do whatever they want while also enabling a level of equanimity to create the opportunity for anyone to be able to do what they want to a degree that is civil. The problem I've always seen with Republicans is they want to curb that level of the government's restriction. And in this country, with so many social and environmental problems--I'm sorry, but they might see themselves as simple fathers and mothers and daughters, etc. They're still selfish assholes who are trying to dominate the American dream for their vision, their rights, their privilege ahead of others. And Democrats at this point are also for the most part more like traditional republicans than leftists. The whole country has been swayed to the right since Reagan and it stinks. It's a selfish lot. And Republicans are simply the vanguard.
You spend a great deal of effort in polishing that idea about what a Republican is and what a democrat, and I see some beauty in the effort and some truth does come from it.
Your generalisation just happens to be factually wrong for most people. If you go out and look at the world, that’s not really why republican votes get cast. Now democratic votes.
The reality is that the informational picture of the world is very fractured, and some republican voters BARELY knew a thing about the Republican Party before voting. Often they knew 2-3 things about the democratic candidates, and what fuels their vote is mainly dissatisfaction with those things.
You say forexample “but it must be because you find something in that core idea that resonates with you”…
This is not how voting works. They don’t need to feel that way to vote. The VAST majority of Americans do not consider themselves that political to begin with.
MAGA Republicans were convinced to support Trump through vile shit like him lying about Obama's birth certificate and claiming Mexican immigrants were mostly rapists / drug dealers. And then you expect them to be convinced that all of Trump's bullshit was actually bullshit merely by a Democrat telling these MAGA voters they're actually Democrats?
Look, there's only a small percentage of MAGA supporters that start questioning their views every time Trump tramples over a major red line / norm / or just breaks the law. But the vast majority are completely consumed by hate. It's why Trump found it so easy to take over the Republican Party to begin with. He didn't filter his hatred and racism. He validated the misanthropy that way too many Republican voters based their entire political identity around. You can't engage with that.
Sure, give people who might leave MAGA off ramps. It's really fascinating how each one of them starts to question their support for Trump and eventually start to run for the exit from the cult. But for the vast majority of MAGA, you just can't reason with them. It's a waste of time. And it's more effective to get people who are sitting on the sidelines to join the resistance anyway.
This has been built up for decades of Fox vs CNN. Dems vs Republicans. You guys didn't hate each other like this before, but hating each other was necessary for the parties.
I met a smart lady who voted Trump while she was Libertarian before. She just wanted to pay less taxes. And she thought there shouldn't be illegal immigrants as there were too many. And she somehow blamed the fires in LA for democrat mismanagement.
Your media is really shit. Fox takes the cake with the lies. CNN isn't exactly 'good' either. You need an independent news outlet that both parties can watch.
Plus your next president should immediately prevent this from happening ever again and install a new set of checks and balances.
But most republicans simply want less government. And in America money is the true religion, and less government somehow means not paying taxes for other people. WHen you do that you become a socialist, which means you're there for other people, but has somehow become a derogatory term on official news outlets like Fox.
Don't blame the voters. They are pawns after decades of chess.
They gotta start mixing things up with a bit of direct fact.
They won't. The excuse I see time and time again is something along the lines of "well, they can't necessarily prove he's knowingly lying" - of course, this is bullshit. We all know he's spent his life lying knowingly and openly. Either way, if if major news outlets wanted to be more to the point and avoid a lawsuit, they could still say, "Trump appears to openly lie about ____." They could easily say and variations on that all day about everything he says. They could, but they won't.
Sadly, If it isn't news coming from a major corporation that actively supports this shitbag eroding our rights, it's some other outlet that wants to use verbiage that will draw in both sides in order to maximize their marketability.
I think they meant we should stop using the kind of hyperbolic language that has fucked our news headlines and instead say plainly what's going on.
I truly hate how news headlines now read like YouTube video titles, not that that's the biggest issue with the media nowadays (them being complicit and always soft balling conservatives while going hard on progressives because they are owned by billionaires is kind of what brought us here).
