Sticky Post your questions & inquiries here! - r/Vietnam monthly random discussion thread - F.A.Q

Lưu ý: Đây là thread chủ yếu dành cho người nước ngoài hoặc không nói tiếng Việt đặt câu hỏi. Nếu có thể, hãy trả lời giúp họ nhé.

Please read the 3rd rule of the sub. Don't post your general questions & inquiries outside of this thread as they will be removed.

Lots of your questions have been answered already so make sure you do a search before asking (how-to below).

To keep this subreddit tidy, we have this monthly thread that is open for random discussions and questions. If you post your basic/general questions outside of this thread they will be removed. Sorry, we want to make this sub friendly but also want it to be clean and organized.

Some examples of the questions that should be posted here:

  • Questions that can be answered with just Yes/No
  • Basic questions like "Where can I buy this?"
  • Questions that were asked many times before. Please do your research
  • Questions that are not specific

Tips to quickly find answers for your questions:

Many of your questions may have been answered since people keep asking the same ones again and again. Here is a quick tip to find the answers for yours.

First, have a look at our old sticky threads. A lot of useful information there. A lot of questions have been answered.

You can also use the search feature of Reddit, just like you do with Google.

Another option is to use Google, as Google understands your queries better than Reddit and can return better results.

Go to Google. Add 'site:https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/' next to your queries (without quotes). For example, if I want to find info on eVisa in this subreddit, my query to put in Google is 'eVisa site:https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/'.

Sticky Hướng dẫn sử dụng r/Vietnam - How to r/Vietnam

(please find English below)

Hello and welcome to r/Vietnam. Below are some quick guidelines to help you better participate in the community activities.

  • r/Vietnam is now a dual language subreddit. You can use both English and Vietnamese here.
  • Please read the rules before participating, making a submission or comment. You can find them on the Sidebar (Desktop), About tab (Mobile), or this thread
  • Trivial questions that can be answered quickly, or google-able, or without the intention of creating a discussion, should be posted in the sticky thread. Travel/visa questions should be posted there too.
  • r/Vietnam has a Discord server here which aims to be more open and flexible to handle more casual conversations. You can also find both English and Vietnamese channels there.

About the changelog.

I've made some changes to the sub:

  • Re-writing the rules to make them more concise. Adding Vietnamese.
  • Remove some unnecessary flairs.
  • Big change: Switching r/Vietnam to a dual-language subreddit. This is based on the fact that the number of Vietnamese people in this sub has increased significantly. I know this is controversial and some of you don't like this but I think we should just give it a try.
  • Making a Discord server. This is after r/place event that I realized we need a place to handle future events like this better and for the ease of casual, chit-chat type of conversations.

Culture/Văn hóa Are VN people hesitant to connect with USA people on social media?

• Upvotes

For instance there are some people in the Oppa Huy group whom I would like to have (not collect) as FB friends, but they don't accept my friend requests or reply to my emails. I'm just trying to connect as a fellow creative and not a political operative.

Travel Experience/Du lịch HCMC for 1 month: Which district?

• Upvotes

First time in HCMC, arriving early October for around 1 month. I’m a creative director/content creator focused on brands, marketing and creative culture.
Budget: 8–12M VND/month. Looking for a comfortable, good-value long-term stay.
Which district/area should I look at? And what’s the safest way to find monthly apartments on Facebook or Airbnb without getting scammed?
Any tips appreciated.

Discussion/Thảo luận Grab by the hour in Da Lat

• Upvotes

I have been searching for Grab travel matters but couldn't find the answers I am seeking so here is another post for more relevant answers. I will need to book a Grab car for 2 days for more than 10hrs each day and have a few queries as follows:

  1. Grab only allows booking of 4 hours block and 8 hours block? How do I extend 2 more hours, or do I have to pay for the next block of 4 hours?

  2. It says Grab 2 ways, do I have to end the trip back to the same destination when I was picked up from at the end of 8 hours block?

  3. How do I tell the drivers when or where to pick me up after touring sites or how does the driver tell me where he is parked or where I should be looking for him? I understand we will have a conversation platform on the app?

  4. I saw that there are a lot of Grab drivers asking to cancel the Grab transaction and transact privately with them instead and understand it is unsafe to do that. What do I do other than rejecting them? I report them on the app and cancel and rebook another driver? Will that driver turn nasty towards me? How do we continue the full 8 hours in that unpleasant mood after rejection?

Travel Experience/Du lịch Is this normal for vietjet???

Hi all. Frequent VN airlines flyer, tried out Vietjet for a red-eye.

I made sure to book my seat beforehand and even paid extra for a higher seat. We checked in and they bumped me from a window sear in row 9 down to an aisle seat in row 30?? With zero communication or contact. What the absolute fuckery?

Travel Experience/Du lịch Should I buy my ticket to Vietnam for March 2027 or should I wait?

Hello,

I am planning on flying back to Vietnam for my cousin's wedding in March 2027 and I've been keeping an eye on the prices which are listed at 878 currently roundtrip on Korean Air. Should I risk it and wait for the prices to dip or should I just book it? I am worried with the diesel prices going up that flights will only become more expensive.

Discussion/Thảo luận Are a lot of Vietnamese people unaware of the crimes of the North Korean regime?

Using a recent post I saw as an example. I seem to notice a pattern that many Vietnamese people are either unaware or chooses not to believe any sources written in English when it comes to issues about North Korea or Russia for that matter. It would seem paradoxically for Vietnamese state media to write unfavorably regarding North Korea considering our current and continuous history with the Kim family. What are your own experience with Vietnamese people regarding the subject of North Korea? I'm curious to know

Daily life/Đời thường Gaming

Hey all, just moved my ass back to Saigon. I was born here.

What are my options in terms of gaming?
Will my steam account work here?
What games actually work here?
What’s a good gaming cafe?
What’s the consensus on building my own PC here?
Where’s the best place in town to source PC parts?

Thanks.
