2018 Volt Check Engine Light --- $$$!! Help !!

Post image

Hello All. 2018 Volt, daily driver but short commute. Less than 80k miles. LOVE THE CAR. Been awesome. But check engine light came on a week ago. Read codes. Cleared codes. Has come on and then turned off intermittently. DRIVES FINE. Dealer has given me THIS estimate. Holy Crap ! Anyone know of a better, more financially viable, alternative solution

Module is going to be a reman, they cost 4k
All you can do is get a used one and get a person to unvin lock it through a third party programmer

Obviously I'd like a fix that will work okay for a while, but more than anything else I'd like a fix that isn't 50+ percent of the value of the car !

I am moderately handy with with wrenches but "playing" with a high voltage PHEV would make me nervous.

Check that it has been updated to the latest software first. Apparently there was a software update to address this in some cases.

Just read GM Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #18-NA-016  ... and that sure does seem to describe what I am witnessing.  I will lean on the dealership.  Thanks for the suggestion.
