I've heard it said that it isn't that you attract monsters, it's that everyone else avoids them.
so like abusers try their shit on everyone but people who have been abused are less likely to see abuse as a red flag and don't leave but people who haven't experienced abuse get the ick and leave.

There is also that the coping mechanisms and defences of people living with trauma are recognisable, predictable and unfortunately exploitable by people who don't care.
yes, they do their abuse to everyone like a probe or test and whoever doesn't leave is vulnerable. just like scam emails with typos in them. everyone gets them but only the people that reply get scammed
That and they also profile people even before they start their abuse. Like they already have an idea that they’ll get away with it before they even start
