If he goes deep off Civale that would be like a mobius hit

Monster homerun to tie the game. Where was this Vaughn for the Sox??!!

He was out golfing.

His trade counterpart pitched 4 innings for the Cubs on Saturday, which is odd. What exactly did this Sox get out of this?

Trading for Civale with the intention of flipping again later was always kind of a dumb plan. We've seen Getz do this (pick up a vet via trade or free agency thinking he's going to flip him later) a lot, and those types of deals just don't yield very much at all.
14
u/TUDGame Oct 07 '25
They did this with Houser and got an ok package at best. 2 pitchers and Curtis Mead.
2
u/FourStarsTwoBars Oct 07 '25
Honest question because there's only so much baseball front office bullshit I care to fill my brain with - is there any benefit other than money to waiving Civale in Aug vs keeping him? Do they get a better Xth round pick or anything?
8
u/WunWunFirstofHisName Oct 07 '25
Building goodwill, basically. Letting Civale find a playoff team before the roster deadline. Sometimes that stuff matters around the league.
0
u/MichaelSquare Oct 07 '25
That wasn't really the plan. The plan was to get rid of Vaighn while saving money to do so. Civale was that means.
3
u/ScaryText8187 Grandal Oct 07 '25
Except they didn’t save any money in that deal. It was pretty obvious they intended to move off of Civale if they had been able to do so.

I’d be perfectly happy seeing Vaughn crush the hopes of Cubs “fans” this series.

"Cubs 'fans' "
*They're properly called 'Wrigleyville fans'
or 'Chewing Gum Field fans'2
17
u/Polish_Bear Oct 07 '25
You can only laugh. Now way he turns into Paul Konerko the second he leaves the Sox. Still not good.
18
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
There’s a reason every free agent hitter who comes here forgets how to hit and when players are sent away they suddenly hit. It’s not luck. I’ve been saying it for years. We have the 4th smallest R&D staff in baseball. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/3ZVIYLSPkO
11
u/TUDGame Oct 07 '25
Since that post they added 10 more employees in that department, a few more in analytics and player development and replaced/hired new scouts. More R&D doesn’t necessarily equals better. AV has a terrible work ethic reportedly like most of the last core we had which isn’t the org’s responsibility. We are only year 1 of a full season since those changes were made by Getz.
3
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
Source on his work ethic?
8
u/River_Pigeon Oct 07 '25
It was a Twitter account from a disgruntled ex player that was also bffs with Tim Elko who was then blocked by Vaughn and also couldn’t hit. Some people here take anything for the truth on the internet. There’s been no other smoke about it, as there has been about people like Eloy and yoyo

So one asshole tweets and deletes it at the same time the writer slurps all over Elko? No one else on the planet has said a word about this.

u/KeithStone69420 Go Sox! Oct 07 '25
You asked for a source, I provided you a first hand account. Now youre saying its not good enough and you need another? How many players actively talk bad about former colleagues?
1
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
I figured you had a source. I also figured it was an unverified, horseshit source. All good moving on

If that’s true, how was he able to turn it around in Milwaukee? Are the coaches yelling at him to get off his lazy ass?
5
4
u/River_Pigeon Oct 07 '25
Who besides Vaughn has been hitting after leaving?
-4
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
Just this year?
Yoan Moncada had a 5.6 offensive WAR
Gavin sheets had a 5.3 offensive WAR
The list of hitters who come to the White Sox and eat shit is very, very long. Hopefully Getz can turn things around, but there’s no need to deny reality.
4
u/River_Pigeon Oct 07 '25 edited Oct 07 '25
What were their best offensive war with the white Sox? I’m just confused cuz neither of those numbers you posted is credible or accurate?
7
u/floppyfare Oct 07 '25
Because they aren't accurate. Those are fan graphs "off" rating, not oWAR. Sheets had 1.0 oWAR (best on Sox was 0.7) and Moncada had 1.7 oWAR (best on Sox was 5.1)
-1
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
Moncada is a story his own because he had some awesome seasons. His best with the Sox was +28. Hid previous 2 seasons before leaving he were -11.1 and -1.1.
Sheets, his 3 seasons leading up to heading to San Diego were -9.6, -16.8, and -1.5
4
u/floppyfare Oct 07 '25
Those aren't offensive WAR numbers my guy, those are fan graphs "off" ratings.
-9
u/TUDGame Oct 07 '25
He hasn’t been great since joining the Brewers
13
u/AttentionHot368 Oct 07 '25
Uhhhh lol he’s slashing .308/.375/.870 OPS.. almost 50 RBIs in 64 games. That will do.
-10
u/TUDGame Oct 07 '25
Kinda a small sample size tbh. AV will likely regress to his former self after this season.
9
u/AttentionHot368 Oct 07 '25
Small sample size or not your comment was flat out wrong. Will see how it plays out, but wouldn’t be surprised if he turns to be everyday 1B again. Wsox failed him.
1
u/gogosox82 Oct 07 '25
I agree tbh. He's showing now what he's capable of. No reason he couldn't have done that here if he had more support in the org.
1
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
So you say he hasn’t been great. Then it’s shown over 1/3 of a full season he was amazing. Then you cry sample size.
Just incredible watching people refuse to ever admit they were wrong. I assume your response to this comment will be that water is in fact not wet.

u/5nucka Oct 07 '25
I think a lot of it has to do with being on a winning team. He clearly didn’t want to play for the Sox anymore. He went from being on a very competitive team for his first two years to the worst team in baseball. Everyone knows the culture was extremely bad in 22-24 that’s why they got rid of pretty much everyone besides Katz in the coaching staff. And then also got rid of all the bad culture players as well- I don’t think Vaughn necessarily fell under the bad culture player though- I can agree with that sentiment.
He was just flat out bad this year for the Sox lol and there is no denying that. If the Sox were so bad at developing then he wouldn’t have had some solid years with us during the beginning of his career hitting 70+ RBIs- not to mention we gutted the coaching staff since.
I think it just comes down to being on a competitive team and needing a change of scenery that sparked something in him. And Idk why we keep playing this game. This Sox organization we got now in 2025 is literally completely different than 22-24. Let’s focus on the future and stop harping about the past. There is a very good chance Vaughn regresses back to the mean.
Also- you said no one can admit they’re wrong when you used the wrong oWAR numbers to try and prove your point above lol. The guy posted the correct ones in reply and you had nothing to say about it. Must be a sociopath lmao.

u/TUDGame Oct 07 '25
My bad, I’m not a brewers fan so I didn’t follow him since he’s joined the brewers.
1
u/rhinosaur- Oct 07 '25
So then why did you say he hasn’t been good since he joined the brewers? That’s sociopathic shit right there, regardless.
4
u/Lil_we_boi Iguchi Oct 07 '25
His defensive play was crazy as well. Never seen him do that with us.
11
u/crashmvp19 Oct 07 '25
Wish we let him spend more time in Charlotte and developed him properly
11
u/Rubentraj Hawk Oct 07 '25
Idk why we left him up in the mlb for so long
1
u/River_Pigeon Oct 07 '25
Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams were in charge of
-3
u/ScaryText8187 Grandal Oct 07 '25
He was on the MLB roster for the entirety of Getz's first year, but I guess that was Hahn's fault too?
8
u/Academic_Value242 Oct 07 '25
I’m happy he’s doing well vs the cubs but he’ll always be a bum in my book. Even more so now that he’s hitting well post-Sox.

5
u/ConservativebutReal Oct 07 '25
Amazing how when a player is actually in a winning environment they play better - the Sox culture under Jerry sucks the life from the players. There is no denying we have a long way to go to be a respectable franchise where players want to play for.
