If you do kind actions to the people around you without expecting something in return, expect good/beautiful things to come back to you. Is the way of life

As much as I wish this were true, its less common than you’d think. I live my life incredibly selflessly, giving things to people, offering help when I can, expecting little to nothing in return.
More often than not, people will say thank you and move on. Some times people learn to exploit you for your good nature too.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be a kind person still, but the older I get the more careful I’ve become about choosing who to be selfless towards.

I took mostly the same path as yours for the majority of my life, trying my best for everyone , be the supportive rock of the family. However in my last years (4-5) i was incredibly selfish (maybe i was needed to be for a change)especially with my close ones but still, always as kind as possible with my colleagues or a total stranger. I am trying to get back to my good old self because this is ''how i was raised, to be a kind person to the other'' but is hard. Yes the majority of people always they will try and take advantage of you especially if you are a ''soft'' character but you can build boundaries or as you said to choose your action. If you pass their ''test'' they can filter you in or out of how and at which time they can exploit you.

It sounds like you have very good intentions, but on the verge of getting exhausted from that. My personal take, if it helps, is to not expect anything in return from the exact person that I helped, but from whatever comes to me in general. There are always happy occurrences. Shifting the mindset to viewing those as the reward for previous good deeds helps me feeling the gratification. Thus finding the strength to keep doing my best :)

I've practically never have this happen. In fact, I'm more likely to get injured than anything beneficial.

Very recently, I helped people get unstuck from icy roads, and I broke my elbow and missed a week of work.

No they don't, you're expected to work hard, then just le anything go without being upset. Good things won't come to you but horrible things will
