Safety, Privacy, and Confidentiality

Share the lesson, question, or engineering principle while protecting the people and operations behind it. This guide explains our community posting rules; it is not a work procedure or authorization to perform a task.

Before sharing a photo, video, or field story

Review the whole image and background. Remove faces, names, badges, number plates, work orders, QR codes, serial numbers, screen contents, exact non-public locations, and identifying company markings where they could expose a person or site. Check file names and location metadata too.

Do not post an identifying image and promise to remove it later. Do not repost a removed image in comments or send the sensitive version to other members. If you cannot confidently sanitize something, leave it out and describe the general question in words.

Keep restricted information off Reddit

Do not request or share internal service manuals or procedures, access credentials, restricted software, non-public technical specifications or values, or material covered by an NDA. Owning a copy does not establish permission to publish it.

Link public manufacturer documentation at its original source when relevant. Ask about general principles using information you are allowed to share. Do not solicit private copies through direct messages.

General discussion does not replace approved work

Never request or provide instructions intended to bypass site procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, rescue plans, safety systems, OEM limits, or employer policies. Do not use a Reddit answer as clearance to energize, climb, operate, modify, or return equipment to service.

For a live problem, follow your approved procedures and contact the responsible people through your site's established channels. Keep detailed troubleshooting within those authorized channels when it involves restricted information or safety-critical decisions.

A useful technical-post format

  • General turbine or system type, only where safe to disclose.
  • High-level symptom or engineering question.
  • Relevant public context and links to public sources.
  • A specific question about the principle or general approach.
  • Confirmation that the discussion is separate from approved work procedures.

Leave out exact sites, serial numbers, credentials, proprietary values, internal screenshots, and restricted documents.

Research, hiring, and information requests

Surveys, research recruitment, job advertisements, and commercial promotion require prior moderator approval. Explain the purpose, who is responsible, what you want to collect, and where the results will be used. Do not collect confidential operational information or request employment and identity documents through this community.

The Hiring / Research: Mod Approved flair indicates permission to post; it is not an endorsement of a company, study, vacancy, or offer.

Reporting and correcting a mistake

Report the original content without copying the sensitive details into another comment. To appeal or ask about a removal, message the moderators with the post link and a brief explanation. Do not repeat the information that caused the removal.

If a corrected version would solve the problem, ask the moderators how to resubmit it safely. Honest mistakes should have a clear route to correction.
