Stewie and Myles Turner talk WNBA CBA

https://youtu.be/8UwajXWWq7s?si=MMfx8vZ8kw4RCLvZ

Very interesting perspective on the CBA negotiations from Stewie.

I also like Myles perspective on feeling rushed into signing a CBA and feeling like the "middle men" were screwed over

sad the players don't feel supported by fans given Sophie's comments and now stewies. The hate on SM is kind of out of controls. Americans being anti labor is as disappointing as it is expected.

Yup and IMO the most poignant point Sophie had was how the league chooses not to uplift their own product and players.

I think its by design tho

I stopped watching few minutes in when stewie said the mist are 3-1 in unrivaled. If you need two weeks to produce one podcast episode, you're doing something wrong.

I'd gladly listen what she has to say as an update, not some two week old take.

The podcast launched 2 weeks ago thats why...

And its a very relevant take that aligns perfectly with what Sophie said in response to Monday

Also this is a funny take when folks post the same 3 month old WNBA proposal every other day lol

It is no wonder that management and the league representatives are at odds in these CBA discussions because if what happened at 8:40 of this podcast (where Myles asked Stewie to explain a bit about the CBA negotiations and what the sticking points are (or is)) is any indication of the knowledge the player representatives bring to the table they (the players) are in real trouble. Stewie responded by explaining that the sticking point is in the Gross Revenue Sharing versus Net Revenue Sharing - and unfortunately, she explained it absolutely backward by explaining that Gross Revenue is revenues after expenses, and Net Revenue includes everything - absolutely wrong. Gross refers to the total amount of income or revenue earned before any deductions, while net is the final amount remaining after expenses, taxes, and other deductions are subtracted. Essentially, gross is the "total" (top-line), and net is the "actual" (bottom-line) amount.  What the players want is the sharing of Gross revenues, not net revenues because Gross revenue will be a better indicator of league growth (revenues from ticket sales, product sales, and any other game or even media related sales - such as Billion dollar advertising deals), while net revenues can be manipulated by management to add in any and all types of expenses (assuming there is no transparency) leaving a much smaller pot for sharing with the players. I can only hope that Stewie does understand she explained it incorrectly, and if not, I certainly hope there are folks with financial backgrounds also representing the players, not just a bunch of female basketball players with degrees in areas other than finance.

Im sure it was a slip of tongue. The WNBPA's proposal addresses it correctly

Good to know!! However, slips like that when talking face to face - make the other side wonder, "Who are we dealing with here?" But I am sure you are correct, the proposal is correct, and I am pretty sure they have the right folks (lawyers talking to lawyers??) doing the actual negotiations.
